Can I make a suggestion ? Find out what you wife wants and go with it... Your going to save yourself changing 'vans about 5 different times that way. My brother started buying and selling caravans about 12months ago. Old Golfs are the only ones I've seen that seem even remotely nicely built. They seemed to take pride in the building of them. He has a old (so cheap) VERY well used Golf at the moment. Here it is: www.ebay.com.au/itm/1997-Golf-Challenger-Semi-Off-Road-Caravan-with-Toilet-and-Shower-Like-Jayco-/142047035759?hash=item2112a9c16f:g:7i8AAOSwjXRXb93hWait for something like this to come up at the auctions. It had a tiny dent in the front right corner down at the bottom edge ( you might be able to see it in the piccies). The insurance companies doen't seem to repair any caravan. One little dent the size of your palm .. and they write it off . If you grab something lightly damaged like this they are VERY EASY to repair (as you know if you have removed any cladding of your old caravan to repair rott). It's still a risk, but it'll get you into something your wife will like ( I'd keep the oldie too, but that's just me ). Oh, like everything it's a risk. He found the caravan above had a small dent in the drawbar both sides once it arrived. That is why it has a brand new drawbar fitted. eg: www.manheim.com.au/recreation/4819693/concept-ascot-20ft-caravan-caravan?referringPage=SearchResultsI'd go an have a look at this one if I was in tassie .. Looks like it's been in flood waters... Crawl under it ... bang on all the floor .. if it's not soft, all you'd need to do is replace the carpet and refinish the wood work inside. I can't see how water would effect anything "underneath" a caravan, certainly it wouldn't hurt an aluminium frame! seeya, shane L.

We have had wild weather recently in Tassie and all i can say is my van is bone dry since i used sika 291 on windows and j-rails. Last night it howled and poured and i thought, bring it on! Yes, my caravan is the same... it's been outside through all this weather (and was down in warnanbool for there big wet last week at fun for kids). Just boring old silicon and butyl mastic used in mine though seeya, Shane L.

Sikaflex is a brand name with a million and one varieties Which one? I'd use plain old roof and guttering silicon myself on the tru-molds. There going to be painful enough if you ever need to remove them when siliconed ... if you sikaflex them with an adhesive type of sikaflex. It's never coming apart again! Whatever you do ... only mastic for windows. Otherwise if they ever need repair, you will not be able to get them out seeya, Shane L.

try your local auto paints store. They will likely recommend a 3M branded fineline tape, might even be plastic. It's worth every cent. You can even leave it on for a few days without finding it impossible to remove!
I always go to places that deal with the trade if I can. If something doesn't work, they simply will not stock it. In Ballarat I always use J&D auto paints in skipton street. They have always treated me right. I've been using them since I was about 16years old!

wow it must be heavy. That all that super heavy MDF flatpack from bunnings isn't it? I bet it's way over the maximum weight allowed for the chassis with it empty seeya, Shane L.

The franklin is going to be foam sandwich isn't it ? Have a search around for franklins here. You may need to check the timber supporting the walls on the chassis hasn't rotted away from the leak (have a look at snoops thread, it should be built in a similar fashion). ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2558/new-old-75-franklin?page=5seeya, Shane L.

Thanks Guys, I might have to try joining the caravaners forum again.... I'll probably be banned again within a week though as they'll decide I'm being dangerous or not legal by disconnecting the tail lights (or something similar ) over there. The admin over there sure are, er, "different" I did find the avan club, but there is no publicly accessible info I can find there. You need to be a member. I'll post up some piccies on the caravaners forum so people can find them with a google search (even after I'm banned again. They seem happy to leave my stuff there even after they ban me again ... You see someone with common sense isn't welcome to post over there). seeya, Shane L.

Hi Guys, is there a forum like this for modern 'vans? I purchased one of those avan aliners that has had one of the roof lift springs break free. I figured I'd repair it and make some money out of it ( well hopefully I will... boss women won't be happy if I dont LOL). I can't find anything on the avans, so is there somewhere I can post a writeoup on how I will repair it ? (I'm sure if this one is broken, many other will break in the same way... ). If I can post some piccies, everyone else needing the same repair can reference them... Oh anywhere other than the caravaners forum. that place isn't worth wasting your breath on. Oh ......... and of course, the whole issue as always seems to be the manufacturer didn't bother to seal the damn thing when they made it, so it's leaked into the walls from the day it was built seeya Shane L.

Looking at the amount of flames between car & van and if the gas bottle was also up front i would be evacuating everyone in a 100m radius rather than save the tug. I am a woose tho I'd disconnected it well before the fire reached the front of the 'van ..................................... As soon as you have fire, were all out of there including the tug. No point waiting until it's a fireball. LPG cylinders are VERY scary. I'd never go near one in a caravan fire. For starters the tap on at least one of them will be wide open A wooden framed caravan would burn like you wouldn't believe.... You'd never be able to save it once there fire took hold.

Dunno about you guys ... But if my 'van burst into flames..... I'd disconnect the tug and move it away from the fire.... They probably weren't there at the time I guess

I've never used an electronic register. Everytime I'm guided to one I say "The day I use one of them I'm giving myself a 50% discount for the labor involved"........... Talk about getting weird looks.
My brother loves them. Don't ring up carrots more than 3times though. I tell you, they'll tear those things out in a few years after they work out the stock is just walking out the door. Everyone just buys carrots and brushed pototoes ... They must sell a million tons of carrots year (even though they only buy 1/2 ton of them). Discounts ... 50% reduced. Yay, grab the discounted item and the 10 items behind it. Scan the discount label 10 times and get all 10 discounted.
The westies work at the stores, so have guided all there mates on how to get around the registers checks and balances. stock is just rushing out the door at a hell of a rate. I can't understand it.
Bunnings ?? Join all of your pipe fittings together, nuts and bolts ... etc... scan just one barcode. You just walked out with $50 of fittings an only scanned the one $2.50 connector.
Is the management implementing these registers really so stupid ?

I love the club permit scheme, I have two cars on permits (one in each of my clubs) both are on 45 days and in a twelve month period I might use each of them about 14-16 times which for me is enough, if I only had the full rego option I would be down to one car and I would seriously wonder if I really needed that one, a lot of various businesses rely on restorers to keep them going and if we stopped overnight a lot of them would hurt. I don't know your state, but 45 days I could handle that. I can only do formals/weddings for my immediate family, (no cousins) 15km radius from where kept, not to be used for transport, utter rubbish in Qld. The price is too cheap $190 vs $1000.00, for full rego. There should be an intermediate fee, for casual use. In Victoria, 45 days is about $70 a year. double that for 90days....... I have, let me count, um, 3 cars on the permit system at the moment Everytime the sun comes out down here, it's like a state wide classic car run. It's incredible! seeya, Shane L.

Just front up to vicroads. Worse case is they will give you a new VIN number and you will have to get it stamped in (if none is currently on the caravan). having hte previous registration number in theory should make it seemless. Of course, the place is full of assholes so you just never know if your going to come across one of them.

Congratulations on the new relationship, but I recon living in sin is better (more fun). I always thought that Mustangs were built on the same frame/sub floor as the Falcon. The 70's Falcon can tow 1600kg (without an 8 cylinder thing under the bonnet) When do we see Photos of the happy couple? I would think the Mustang would pull the Viscount (1360kg loaded) no problems, but sway would worry me. When I was much younger, We towed a 17' Haines Hunter SO, 175 Yamaha (rather a heavy load) with a VL turbo Calais, we went through three head gaskets & the car's rear end just fell to bits, splitting away from the wheel arches & rear window. This Mustang owes me more than I would ever get, I have to treat it carefully, so it will be towing under 900KG. The earlier commonbores were crap. unless you fitted the massive hayman reece towbars that tied the tail end of the car together, they cracked at the 'C' pillars. The most concerning bit as far as I can see is the mustangs short wheelbase. At least the axle isn't in the middle like most american cars. Imagine the leverage effect of loading the towbar. The Range Rover I have I reckon is NOT a great towcar due the distance between the rear axle and towbar. Compare it with an old Citroen DS. They are almost a 5th wheeler in comparison as the towbar is mere inches away from the rear axle. seeya, Shane L. PS: What dents and repairs..... The mustang didn't get bent did it

You might have to remove the cladding from bottom up. So it will need to all come off. So the windows, door and tru-moulding will need to come off. It's not as hard as it sounds. The work is removing all of the old sealer and re-doing all the seals (which will likely need doing either way). I'm pretty sure you have some frame repair to do as well.
Why don't you try your local caravan repairer and see if they have the profile ? It is quite expensive the cladding.

How much do I LOVE this bloody club permit scheme.... I coudlnt' believe my eyes, I just walked outside to get some lunch, and parked in our carpark was one of these with a kids seat in the back. absolutley immaculate SS 454 on a club permit. Still in LHD. I had all my fingers and toes crossed it was someone in our building so I could go for a drive ....... Sadly not seeya, shane L.

I really do reckon your mustang would tow "Vincent" like it's not even there. big heavy chassis to bolt the towbar too. Some weight distribution bars (not that they'll be needed with that massive boat anchor sitting over the front wheels ) ..... etc... I've towed HEAPs of stuff with old Citroens dating back to the early 60's .... brilliant towcars. only you have 68hp rather than 468 like you probably have LOL. seeya, Shane L.
