hi I did some priming and painting recently and wanted to preserve the stripes, which are still good, so I used paper masking tape , but after removing it straight after painting, some edges of the stripe came off as well ,, is there a specific tape to use?

Any old paintwork, or soft surfaces it pays to splash out on the 3m low tack glue stuff.

i use blue tape not quite as sticky but comes off without lifting paint That is the stuff! I think the green is half way, sometimes the blue is not enough & bleeds (drips) and if the original surface is strong enough... but not able to withstand full tack tape.

try your local auto paints store. They will likely recommend a 3M branded fineline tape, might even be plastic. It's worth every cent. You can even leave it on for a few days without finding it impossible to remove!
I always go to places that deal with the trade if I can. If something doesn't work, they simply will not stock it. In Ballarat I always use J&D auto paints in skipton street. They have always treated me right. I've been using them since I was about 16years old!

Shane brings up a great point about buying from trade places. Big green sheds etc have products that if you read "proffesional"or trade quality",on the packet, leave them on the shelf! Non clog trade sandpaper is a great example = two swipes and it has clogged and gouged holes in finish. Proffesional hammer or adjustable spanner will crack & break the first bit of decent contact. I have had a few lolz when folks want to supply me things to make jobs "cheaper"
