After attending the Nationals we are looking for a good looking chick (caravan) to marry our Mustang: We have this ad running on VV forum, you might know someone?? Particularly would like a Kennedy, Sunliner, retro Aluminium.

Isn't your current 'van the perfect vintage for the mustang. Are you sure she'll be able to handle all the weight of caravan... you might have to bore that little little 429 out to 460 to make it work seeya, Shane L.

Hi Shane, No trouble with the power, just the chassis would concern me. Vincent was never built for the Muzzy, it was suppose to be for a daughter??? I,m actually looking for about 13'.

I meant pity we don't have room to buy another one! That isn't our van, just another one that I would like, but we already have 3 - the Kennedy, a Olympic and a Viscount Supreme....

I really do reckon your mustang would tow "Vincent" like it's not even there. big heavy chassis to bolt the towbar too. Some weight distribution bars (not that they'll be needed with that massive boat anchor sitting over the front wheels ) ..... etc... I've towed HEAPs of stuff with old Citroens dating back to the early 60's .... brilliant towcars. only you have 68hp rather than 468 like you probably have LOL. seeya, Shane L.

Yeah all I would need is a curtain & side stripe colour change??? I had it weighed with every thing on board, went 1360kg. From memory the Mustang weighs in a 1800KG. But, I want a little cutie.

Well today its happened our Mustang has found a mate. Officially engaged. The dowry will be exchanged next week, but the Muzzy is in hospital at the moment so announcements (images) will have to wait. A HUGE THANK YOU to "Kimbo" on VV forums for the lead, a domino of circumstances led us to this rather special find, we have purchased from a beautiful couple, who unfortunately, can no longer use it on anything but short trips, they are now happy the van has found a good home. Can't wait Brent

Congratulations on the new relationship, but I recon living in sin is better (more fun).
I always thought that Mustangs were built on the same frame/sub floor as the Falcon. The 70's Falcon can tow 1600kg (without an 8 cylinder thing under the bonnet)
When do we see Photos of the happy couple?

Its bl**dy killing me not to start bragging, think I,ll have to start soon as I will not the car back for a while, the repairer has it on his terms of working on it in between jobs otherwise the bill would be horrendous, probably will be anyway

I would think the Mustang would pull the Viscount (1360kg loaded) no problems, but sway would worry me. When I was much younger, We towed a 17' Haines Hunter SO, 175 Yamaha (rather a heavy load) with a VL turbo Calais, we went through three head gaskets & the car's rear end just fell to bits, splitting away from the wheel arches & rear window. This Mustang owes me more than I would ever get, I have to treat it carefully, so it will be towing under 900KG.

It always amazes me at what we can do rather than should do with things. I know this well with various company cars/ utes over the years compared to when it comes out of my wallet. My 1985 L300 van is a good example where i have owned it since 1997 and i have paid the price of wet salt water sailing gear stored plus boat on roof dripping. The real issue was the ex who loaned it to one of her boyfriends when i was away in the UK for a bit, come home and first drive this thing is now rolling around like an old Ford Holden from the 1960s! After denials from her when i met him he was raving and said mate your van is awesome with 2 ton of bushrock ( with the seats taken out) He also cracked the head with the poor 1596cc motor not being fed water while carting junk for a few weeks. No cash ever compensated for engine ( he said it was like that before & the repeated loads of 2t plus rocks could not do any damage to a vehicle that is rated 750KG load FFS! When it comes to any car towing is always damaging so when that car is special then kid gloves should be the norm.

The earlier commonbores were crap. unless you fitted the massive hayman reece towbars that tied the tail end of the car together, they cracked at the 'C' pillars. The most concerning bit as far as I can see is the mustangs short wheelbase. At least the axle isn't in the middle like most american cars. Imagine the leverage effect of loading the towbar. The Range Rover I have I reckon is NOT a great towcar due the distance between the rear axle and towbar. Compare it with an old Citroen DS. They are almost a 5th wheeler in comparison as the towbar is mere inches away from the rear axle. seeya, Shane L. PS: What dents and repairs..... The mustang didn't get bent did it

The mustang didn't get bent did it No dents some mis-info there. A number of mechanical issues through no use. (Special Interest Rego in Qld is extremely limiting) We are updating the air con (the 429 runs plenty of heat in Qld) , hopefully finding an electric fuel pump, the mechanical pump fitted is incorrect,& will not hold fuel for more than a few minutes of stopping, brake tune-up, foot parking brake parts (coming from the US) , extra mufflers (its bl**dy loud with a flowmaster exhaust. Then new plugs (fitting plugs to a 429 is a nightmare) dyno tune, then try & find a competent tow bar manufacturer. It has MSD electronic ignition, overhauled engine/ gearbox, 1971 Factory accessories..electric windows, FM radio, rear demister, cloth seats, intermittent wipers, LSD, air-con, power steer, front disc's, tinted windows.. ..now that you are laughing about such "accessories", the original invoice has the car at a total of $5200 USD , (expensive for 71) you could buy an Aussie GT Falcon for $4000AUD? The car has been twice US magazine published due to its rarity of only 25 to be made in a Grande shape with a Cobra Jet/Ram Air engine. (Its actually 1 of 1) So its a typical big block to drive, we are trying to make it more tractable. Cheers Brent

Wife owned several commodores, she still has one. The VB needed the bracing in the boot so did all the commodores that shape. The VN on wards didn't need it. Never saw cracked C pillars but the first time I hung a caravan on the back of her VB I couldn't close the boot. the rear guards had bulged out and prevented the boot lid connecting with the catch. Took the caravan off and all was good.
I did see an XB sedan with a serious case of boot droop caused by the towing of a rather large caravan. The rear guards at the back of the c pillar line folded in..and the rear bumper was about 5 6 inches lower then standard..
I thought I read somewhere the mustang had sustained some hail damage!!

Sooo...can we have a guessing competition while we're waiting for Thursday?? Ok, something vintage...hmmm... I'm thinking that the shape under the caravan cover is something like a fibreglass Kennedy van. About 14ft length. That's my guess... cheers, Al.
