Thanks mate, but it's only half the job. Have one more on its way and negotiating the price on an identical unit to what's currently in the post but he wants double what it's worth, so waiting for the auction to end and I'll offer him $10 less than I did last time. 😉

Ok, finished one side of the bed off. Not 100% happy but it's ok. The carpet I'm happy with - it's almost an exact match for the original - same style but just a shade or two lighter, so all good there, I think it looks fine. The gold trim I used at the top edge on the wall is a bit thick for my liking but beggars can't be choosers - I needed 3 decent lengths all up, so had to go with what's available these days - looks ok. The bottom cupboard bit will get a curtain hung in it as well I think which will help break up the beigeness (is that a word?😁) of the area. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr

Well, had a bit of a win on ebay - ended up buying 3 more anodised lamps (I think I have a problem) and 2 of these are identical bedside lamps down to the colour, but I will sand and repaint them all anyway to make them look like new, but pretty happy with the finds. Will post pics as they arrive and are restored.

The tale of matching bedside lamps. Been chasing some matching anodised bedside lamps for a couple of weeks and found 2 identical units from different sellers on ebay. Both have arrived and now been stripped back, cleaned sanded and repainted as the finish on them both was faded. Time to make them work off 12 volts - you used to be able to buy 12 volt BC light globes, but no more from what I could find - these would have been too power hungry anyway, so this arvo I knocked up a couple of LED globes from some puck lights, old 240 volt globes and some bits of wood and glue. Started by breaking out the old glass to get the bit I needed. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Puck light used - a 4 pack from Bunnings. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Cut the lead off. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Soldered it into the old globes base and glued sticks on 3 sides to mount them - not pretty but you can't see them when installed. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Done! 2 identical bedside lamps - I've run the cable internal to them now as they will be fixed into position. Plenty of light to read by and only draw 3 watts each! So COOL, the heat so close to your head used to be the killer with bayonet globes.

Yeah, these run cool as a cucumber - and they are warm white too, so look the part. 😊 Will mount at least one one the weekend coming, I still have the other bedside table to make before I can do both. Slowly slowly...

Well snoops you have just made my day. I have a couple of friends that are very good at pulling broken bits apart to make a good working one but never have any of them made their own custom light globe. Good one..
I have memories of burning myself on those lights in my parents caravans.

Just a quick teaser - no pics until tomorrow. Got the other bedside table done. Also the beadhead that covers the big hole in the end, one of the lamps mounted and some more carpet down. Still some trims to fit and the mattress to put in, so will hold off on the pics until that is done tomorrow. Hopefully have the bedroom area complete this weekend. Would have prefered to be out in the van this weekend but SWMBO had other things booked and it's usually hard to find somewhere quiet on long weekends anyway.

Got a bit done today, but not a huge amount given I didn't get to bed until around 4am and I may or may not have had maybe just one too many.... But, got a lamp mounted. Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Got the bedhead area finished and trimmed out, some other carpet done and the matress in. Still need to make the other draw, find a top for the bedside table, and trim it and the floor area. Will see if I get this done tomorrow. Freezing cold and windy here today so put the heater on in the Viscount and did some odd jobs inside - small 1%'ers that were easy to do, so nothing amazing, but progress all the same. Mounted the switch for the HWS, wired in an isolation switch for the heater and removed the black quad trims that are used as skirting boards, cleaned 40 years of crud that was under them, painted them and reinstalled. So, just thinking of what's left to do on the interior. The answer is not a whole lot. Putting aside the ensuite (which I'll put aside as a seperate project as I'm waiting on my tax return to buy all the waterproof panelling I need). The list looks like this:-
Fit table top to bedside table Make drawer for bedside table Fit lamp to bedside table Fit USB power to each side of the bed Make a couple of curtains 2 shelves to cover up where the top bunks were mounted - there is a large batten each side that can't be removed without wrecking the walk as they are attached from the back side with staples, so will stick a narrow shelf on them to repurpose them.
Will see if I can knock a few things off this tomorrow but overall pretty happy where it's at.
Then when it starts to warm up it will be onto the exterior - and that's a whole different story... 😁

Smart move using the battens. grood progress report! Thanks - I'm thinking a length of hardwood with some of the small nickle posts and rails to make them look the part - but that stuff isn't cheap so will probably be when my tax return turns up too.

Well crossed a few more things off the list today. Put a temporary top on the other bedside table - still not sure what I'll do long term to get them to match - once I find something I like the look of I'll redo both side so they are the same. Got the other lamp in, all wired up and operational as well as a USB supply on each side of the bed - out of site but easy to get to. Put an isolation switch on both of them as they draw power even when not in use and they all seem to have bright blue LED's in them which annoys me no end too. USB Power Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Annoying blue light Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Overall bed area complete (minus 1 drawer) Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr So no 100% quite yet but good enough for the next trip away in a few weeks time - I may struggle to get anything more done until then, so at least it is ready to go if I don't get another chance between now and then. 👍

looking great if you want to get rid of the blue light find the earth side to the led globe and remove what ever you plug into it will tell you if it is working or not.I have also seen in truck a dod of black paint also fixes them.

Good idea, thanks. - I may well crack them open and do that. I had to charge my phone one night and the glow really ticked me off...

Yep, I’ve got the same USB’s in my Franklin, and those blue lights seem to light up the caravan like a Xmas tree at night 👎

Sorry bud, but Lisa and I had to have a giggle over your USB led delema. We have the same kind of thing in the Scenic. That one LED lights up the interior of the van no end so we get by with a T-Shirt or a sock or something thrown over it.
Needless to say I'll be doing something different in my Viscount. Good to see you still plodding along, can't wait to get stuck back into mine

Wow, fantastic job. I've been away from the board for a couple of years, and reading through your build up Snoops really gets me back in the mood to do some more work to our Viscount. Awesome work!!, enjoy.
