Ok. Time for a few more details. The chassis number is A7463 I assume that it is the sixty third built in 1974. What else does it tell me?

The bunk beds down the tail end. OK. I suspect it is an "Ambassador". Can someone confirm it is a '74?

Gday Mickmarsh and welcome Looking at the door style , lightning stripes painted on the side ,the cladding and interior hardware and taking the chassis number into account I will assume that it has pushout windows and the old style hatch then I'll take a stab and say your van is from 1970 . Does your van have any Viscount stickers on the front that can still be read ??...it could be a Viscount Duralvan The interior looks to be in fantastic condition judging by the pic Cheers Andy

Thanks for that Andy. Is there a website or list somewhere I can have a browse of? Peter, another pic, the kitchen: So far, the plans are to convert the brakes to electric with breakaway. Then to give it a clean and replace all the broken bits. The last thing will be to install solar panels and batteries as well as updating the electrics to LEDs and electric pump on the water faucet. All simple stuff as funds permit.

Thanks for that Andy. Is there a website or list somewhere I can have a browse of? Gday Mick In the past I have searched high and low for info on these old caravans and in my opinion this website is one of the best sources of information that you will find online about them. Use the search box to look for relevant information to you on the website (there is plenty of good information and tips ) and don't be afraid to ask questions if you cant find what you need to know (plenty of valuable knowledge available from members ) Good luck with the reno and as Peter92 said we all love pics so please post a few as you go to help out future members as well Cheers Andy

Yep, Andrew, I've been up and down that thread several times ages ago. The best I can determine is that it fits closely with 1972 models. I was rather hoping someone had a list and could say "Yep. That one left the factory in August '72." It would make buying bits so much easier. Invariably sales people will ask "What's it for?" Maybe no such list exists but I thought I should ask. I think I might have a chance to start work on it the weekend after next. It will be a slow progress. I have a few other projects on the go.

Gday Mick I'm with you mate ...1970 Viscount Duralvan would be about as close as you will probably get without the original Viscount manifest sheets from the early 1970s which would no longer exist IMHO Don't forget the ongoing pics Cheers Andy

Ok chaps. I need to get started on this van to get it mobile. The first thing I want to do is upgrade the braking system to electric drum. Bear in mind I know nothing about what braxes are on it apart from they are vacuum assisted cable brakes. So, what can you tell me? I see things like 8", 9", 10" brakes. What stud pattern should I be looking at? What type and size of bearing? I want to walk into a brake place, tell them what I want, and it fit.

Now I have to move it. I will eventually change the braking system to electric brakes. Seems the easiest way is to change the axles. Much like what Snoopin has done with his. Today I took a couple of the wheels off. They are 13" diameter rims. Now, I was thinking, the new axles will bring it up about 1-1/2". I need to get the draw bar higher. Perhaps I should go 14". Looking on ebay now, How do I know what stud pattern it is?

Take a wheel off & go to Jax or Bob Jane etc & ask for a quote for mags or whatever, that will give you stud & rim size.

I am unable to travel to suburbia to a place that sells wheels in the timeframe. They have wheels on ebay, delivered to your door, for $45ea. If I buy them tonight, I will have them by the weekend, on my doorstep. Now, can anyone help, how do I know what stud pattern it is?

How far is it store from ballarat ? If it's close, you can move it here to do the brakes etc.... Just find out the stud pattern and order in new wheels ... they will be delivered to your place for $105 each. I just bought a caravan that still had it's original cross ply tyres on it ........ So I ordered in a set of 4 new wheels and tyres: www.ebay.com.au/itm/171565746408?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITsaves all the messing around, and you don't ahve to worry about rusted or out of round old wheels. You NEED to know the stud pattern though. It could be ford, hq, ht, valiant ... there was quite a variety used. seeya, Shane L.

That's what he needs. Now all he needs is a ruler. Using the "Centre of Adjacent Studs mm" column. Measure the distance between the centre of any two studs. I'm betting 14" HT both caravans here are 14" HT ... I wonder if I'll be close seeya Shane L.

Thanks Lawrence and Shane. So, I take it Viscount didn't have a "standard" wheel.
That info you put me on to is most helpful. I want to change the stud pattern and axles on the tandem car trailer at some later date and I'll go down to the trailer parts supplier armed with that print out.
