There is a notice on our modern, "remove TV from wall while travelling" we do, it travels on the bed.
With our last modern the TV was captured by a large velcro wrap, but it expired after 6 months, I have spoken to a number of vanners who share a similar experience, apparently today's technology doesn't travel well attached to a wall bracket.

My old LG HD 32" tv was easy as i kept the original box,( just replaced gaffer tape over a few years) naturally 2 years after the warranty expired it died ( no picture) but sound & tuner ok = rubbish bin. My current 12V 21" is a breeze being so small the last few moves just had it under pillows on the bed, currently thinking about chucking away the box A serious point is when on display, the last thing you want in a classic is (a) a non transistor 4:3 CRT device. (b) modern tv stand securing points in wall or base, on view!

Well, adjusted the brakes and went for another run this arvo. Pulled up after 10 minutes and all hubs were cool, but the brake that got hot yesterday did so again - warm to the touch on the outside of the brake drum. Drove another 15 minutes and by ty time I got home it was quite hot - not burn yourself hot, but again, can't keep my fingers on it. I've removed all the wheels ready for new tyres tomorrow and I'll pull the offending brake off and chck it out - there's no binding at all when you spin it, I've owned drum braked vehicles all my life, and I know it's adjusted right, so will see what's rubbing tomorrow night when I get home.
Have to have it sorted by Wednesday AM as I'll be dragging it 45 minutes up the freeway for Rego...

I had the same problem, read somewhere to back the pads off more than you would a modern, (apparently the handbrake wire can get up enough whip to keep applying the lever??) I backed the pads off about 10 clicks & now they work fine, I also loosened the handbrake cable.

Thatβs what Iβve ended up having to do, backed it off more than I would normally. Handbrake cable is quite loose - again, more than Iβs like, but if it works, happy days.
Wonβt get the new tyres back until tomorrow arvo so wonβt know if Iβve fixed it until itβs being taken to the weighbridge on the way to rego. Will be leaving plenty of time up my sleeve in case I need to back it off more - or temporarily remove the shoes entirely - on the way up there.

Yeah, been on a tight schedule with this one! Good thing is that the interior will be 90% complete before its first outing. Still got the entire outside to do - thereβs weeks of work in that alone, but very happy with the progress so far. ππ

my tv is on a swing out bracket I use the high density plastic foam and a ocky strap to hold it against wall but if yours is loose just sit it on the bed face down on the passenger side with a heavy blanket on top. I hate the deadline but I would probably still be unregistered if it wasn't for the Kangaroo Island trip to hurry it along still a ton of things to do but enjoying it as is. Before each trip a little more is done as I work out what suits us best. have fun

Well, tomorrow is rego day! Because Vicroads didn't believe the Tare weight listed on their computer when I went to get a new R number for it (1,200Kg) they have asked for a weighbridge ticket. So, with new LT tyres fitted and the brakes backed off a bit more, I trundled down to the BP near me on the freeway that's got a public 24 hour weighbridge - only to find it gone....
So, next closest is 45 minute away.... Well, good shakedown run I suppose. Off I go - went down a dirt road to shorten the trip - pretty bad corrugations, so wanted to see how it went - all good apart from the top hinge o the door came adrift... oops... π
Easy fix in the morning.
It towed really well - none of the issues I had originally - I've removed the AC at the back, and got a bit of weight in the front. Also I think thnew tyres are making a difference too as I couldn't get the flat spot off the car tyres previously even when I maxed out the pressure in them, but could never make them look more than 'a bit flat' but they were only rated at 400kg each and 35PSI so never going to cut it. The LT's are rated at around 600 each at 65PSI. Currently running 40, which which makes them nice and round - will play with the pressures and take some temps when I get a moment and fine tune this, but a good start.
So, I know you're all dying to know what it came in at.... I've added a known 200Kg in batteries and solar, but apart from that, removed a bit and added a bit, so take 200 off the figure below to get what it weighed to start with - roughly.
And.....
1,480Kg with a jockey wheel weight of 160Kg so a measly 1,320Kg over the 2 axles. Van had full 9kg gas bottle, spare tyre, annex, floor mat, inner spring mattress, toilet with 15 litres of water in the tank, water tank about half full (as it leaks) so only clothes and food to add.
Hoping to get the Tare registered as that, but it depends on who I get tomorrow, but regardless, it won't matter to me. They may want to keep the tare at 1,200 and I'll negotiate the GTM.
So, we'll call the original weight 1,280...
That makes Mick the winner... ππ
With all our crap in it, I should think we'll just top 1,600 all in - that's only 200Kg more than the Franklin. π

the millard came in at 1160kg's but it did have a battery oil heater and a ton of tools so you have done exceptionally well.

Great news, I expect every reno should go over the scales, ball weight is ideal. 1600kg for a tandem on LT tyres is a breeze.

And REGISTERED!!!
Original tare weight on their computer was 1,200Kg. They were happy to make it 1,480Kg as per the weighbridge ticket and have the GTM 300Kg higher than that, so I'll never have it overloaded now. ππ
Only have bedding, clothes and food to put in it.
Still got a tonne to do, but all the major hurdles are sorted. ππ

So, SWMBO wasted no time and has started to pack the van. Bedding, towels, etc. I bought some clearance ready made curtains - not what I want long term, but will do for now - and have 75% of them cut, hemmed and installed. Will do the rest tommorrow night. They are a burgundy blockout which doesn't look too bad. For $50 I can't complain. SWMBO new sewing machine isn't as good as the old Singer I don't think, but I can live with it - I use it far more than she does... π
3 days to go, once the curtains are finished, I have 4 flyscreens I need to fix and to redo the flyscreen on the door. After that, it's just more packing, and doing a few pre trip checks on the 101.
So close now... π

I'm going to sit by the Mighty Murray for a week and drink beer for a start... ππ
Then head to Cooma for the Land Rover 70th at Easter in the 101.
Then mow my lawns and tidy up the garden.
Then do some more on the van.... π

Well, ready or not, we hit the road in a few hours - just heading an hour up the Hume tonight and staying at a friends place, then a small jump again from there up to another friends in Tatura. Monday is another small hop to Corowa from there, so not long runs - max about an hour and a half or so. 231F956B-F669-4260-B927-656490423E20 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr

Just settled in for our second night out - the 101 tows the Viscount no dramas sitting on 90. Have had to readjust one of the wheel bearings as it was getting pretty warm but all good apart from that. π
Itβs been 35 degrees the last 2 days so quite warm in an old car whole V8 enginevyou badically sit on, but a nice cool change has come through this evening and itβs dropped back to around 20 as we speak with a nice cool breeze.

Thanks for that. We are now set up and ready for a week here at Corowa. Weather forecast is for around 30 every day and warming up on the weekend.
Van towed great behind the 101 but I did have some dramas - only a short distance into the trip I stopped to check the hub temps - one was running very hot, so pulled it apart to see what was going on - the heat build up was caused by a dragging brake - the adjuster was already backed right off so had to remove the shoes entirely leaving me with no brakes for the trip, so not ideal. Will work through that later, was fine after doing that.
Will post a pic of our setup a bit later.π

sounds like something may have been back to front on the backing plate. Steady driving and the brakes on the 101 should have had no problems pulling your van up. Have fun

Have fun Thanks - That was my thought, but everything is right in there - not sure whatβs going on. I have 3 vehicles and another trailer all with drum brakes, so I know my way around them, but this ones got me stumped. The 101 had no issues pulling it up so not a huge deal, but a bit of a bummer after the money and time spent fitting them. Will leave it until I get home to look into further. All Alko components too.
