Morning Gents Yes Bobt I'd happily have someone say to me I couldn't stay in their van park with a 21 foot Olympic.... It would be kitted out so any old siding would do Who needs 240V power when you've got solar and wind power? Besides.... it would mean I had a 21 footer to be rejected by a van park ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Just like Humps said..... By the way Humps ........... Where's these extra photos of yourrrrr 21 foot dream reality van ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Thanks ShaneandSimoen This van has been a preparation for the 21 footer.... Should I be able to buy and do one up Have had a lot of fun and learnt much in the process The best is yet to come... As it reaches the finishing stages .. all the work comes together and starts to look great Wait until it is painted.... only a couple of weeks to go Cheers Atog

uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh Hey Guys Have been as sick as a dog over the past week.... No real progress on the van Which isn't all that good considering I'm starting the repaint on Friday Got me a little worried All that has been achieved this week ( at home on the couch all week complaining of death taking so long to collect me) is to sand part of one side and find some of the damage from previous accidents Not a pretty sight but not as bad as I had expected On a slightly different note the roof hatch from the outside As discussed on another thread the roof hatch is heavy and has over time dug into the roof. Removing the gelcoat in a line This will be filled with resin. After painting it will be covered with an insulating thermocoat. The edge of the hatch will have a plastic edge fitted to stop it digging into the gelcoat again. Also visible is the screw holes where the annex track ran. These have been filled and fibreglassed over. As for an annex ...... That's in the too hard basket currently Cheers Atog woof....cough cough ... woof Coughing when having the Jimmy Brits is a new experience on the whole

Morning All Well its been raining for the past couple of days and doesn't look like letting up until Monday Friday Took the van to the shed yesterday morning in the pouring rain Started sanding it down and stood up under the front awning I'd raised. Straight into the hook that holds the awning down when traveling Looked like I had poured a bottle of claret over my head Decided not to go to the hospital as it was just more wasted time..... Annnyyyyy way got a lot done over the day Back into sanding today Hopefully onto paint tomorrow afternoon Cheers Atog

Hey Guys Thanks Garyr It is a long process but if you keep at it ..... All will come together One thing I've learnt is that you don't need to own everything to get the job done That shed is part of a Multimillion dollar business.... NO hope of me ever owning something of that size The shed belongs to an ex boss now a mate.... And yet I got to use it for free.... Will sling him a couple of cartons soon though Start your van project and just keep moving forward The ways of getting done what you need will eventually fall into place if you try Bit more of the progress on the van Can't show you the lot in one hit..... spoils the excitement ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Back too it this morning Today will be refitting the hatch and door clean up and tow her home Cheers Atog

Hey Guys Well there's good news and there's bad news The paint job is finished For now Managed to finish it last night and then it had to sit for 16 hours to dry..... The bad news....... There wasn't quite enough paint... So in sections it is a bit thin.... Here's how she looks at the moment Refitted the door and some of the door fittings Towed her home and planted her on the front lawn You will notice the gas bottle holder is missing as I needed to get behind it to paint properly Admittedly it was a good weekend Most of the repairs have disappeared ... especially the ones I did ;D ;D ;D But there will be a little rethink in regard to the paint It came out .....OK...... just not marvelous Still have to refit the step as it needed to come out There was a lot of work to be done under the van where the step is. Cheers Atog

G'day atog, I've come out of my research cubbyhole to check out what you are up to...and I see you've been up to quite a bit!! Plus, I hear you've been on your death bed, yet you still soldier on?!! You're a bit like the old Canadian Mountie..."through rain, sleet, or snow, we get our man." (...or maybe I'm thinking of my local Postie and the mail ) Is that you spraying the van in the white coveralls, or did you subcontract that part out? The van looks really schmick with a new coat of paint. Gotta be happy with the progress you've made on this van over the last few months, eh?! Seems like it's come along in leaps and bounds!! ;D ;D Nice job you're doin' there atog!! Now...where was that article I was looking for... See ya, cheers, Al.

Hey There Atog, Who's the happy Daddy, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D What a fantastic Re-birth.....Congratulations on the out-come, ;D ;D The Olympic looks real cool with the paint and should be a real eye-catcher once you hit the road, Be warned..............there will be heaps of people wanting to know all about it, ;D ;D do like I should have done, record all the info on tape, because you will get very tired of repeating all the interesting bits and pieces time and time again. Now about a tow wagon.............."We're still lookin for Ya" Cheers kiwijim ;D

Thanks Guys You blokes keep me going on this as well as the black gas hose ;D ;D ;D ;D Bobt Yep I'll keep posting..... Until she is finished Then I'll bore you lot with a car rebuild of some type Then...... you won't hear from me until I get a laptop..... Cause I'll be on the road... That covers aboutttttttt............ 4 years ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D As one business woman said "We haven't got the money... So now we have to think" Been doing a lot of thinking lately ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Hey Techron The paint came out ...... OK If you do decide to paint yours the same Take a sample in to the paint place you use The small door is a good example Ask them to match the inside of the door colour... that will still be close to original I had a cut out piece they matched.... perfectly Held it up to the finished colour and it was .... exactly the sameThe one mistake they and I made was..... only used 4 litres Trust me you need 6 litres for a real good coverage In the photos it is obvious that the paint on the door is not enough. The same goes for the hatch and part of the roof For now it all stays as is There will be a repaint in the future though All the hard work is done Perhaps next time we will have two guys on the job with spray guns.... get the paint on fast if you use 2 pak Hey Wahroonga I'm looking forward to Kicken back.... Some months off yet If I had a tow car would give her a shake down trip real soon just to get away for awhile...... My time is coming Hey Jim Looking forward to the stares of amazement and ..... Wot the Loveshak had said with him there were times he hadn't even turned the engine off when parking before there was someone there saying "I remember these my....... had one" One of the benefits of Classic and Vintage caravans... Ain't many around and they look different..... Again thanks guys Cheers Atog

Greetings All Kiwijim wrote on another threadG'Day Atog, Congrats on finding another means of keeping RUDD running ;D ;D ;D
I have just noticed that you are again earning funds to Finish off the Olympic,
We were getting a bit worried In case we turned up at your door on our trip around the block and finding you still working on the CASTLE.
my guess is that it will be a race to the finish line now..... ;D ;D
will it be THOMSON by a head ....or OLYMPIC be a short straw ? ?
cheers Kiwijim End QuoteHey Jim Mate ..... have been bludging so far as the van is concerned No money No job No interest....... Been looking for work and as you are probably aware - there isn't a lot out there Have just found a job working for a boat builder.... Well - they have the right techniques ..... but...... Let's just say that it isn't an easy time at the moment and they may find it harder over the coming months Had a quite weekend Have started on some more of the interior of the van... Will post some photos when a little closer to finishing that section of the restoration Perhaps next week While cash is an issue .... desire to do has been more of one Have recently made a few things from my original trade and for the first time in years actually enjoyed it..... Strange what a break of about eight years can do for you ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers till next time Atog

Fantastic job Atog, What a huge effort you have put in,I look forward to further posts on your van.
I used to do a bit of spraypainting about 35 years ago for a living,
Its hard to do the roof, especially when your'e only 5 foot 2.
As for Masking I hate it.........Kathy's Job
Well done Mate. Cheers. John

Hey Guys Hi John The spraypainting side of it I'd like a go at But because it was a once only affair - gave the glory to a mate that had more experience The door will be redone later..... the roof .... possibly ;D ;D Well Gents Starting at a new job has all sorts of advantages One is seeing new stuff I can use on the Olympic Well .... not really new Have any of you heard of pinchweld? I've seen it in older cars but never put two and two together So the roof hatch edge now has pinchweld on it This will stop the hatch rubbing a wear line into the gelcoat and paint on the roof As had happened before It is just a plastic U section with aluminium or stainless steel U's encased in the plastic Great stuff and will probably add more to any raw edges in the van Just added this extra bit onto the front edge so you can see what I mean Cheers Atog
