Hey Gents And you other Blokes and Sheilas ;D ;D ;D ;D Well - it has been wet wet wet all weekend.... As one Dust Bunny has pointed out it isn't nice to brag about the amount of water falling here.... Honest..... YOU CAN HAVE SOME..... PLEASE....!!!!! Sat in the van and looked around for little bits and pieces to do You know the feeling Don't really want to do anything but feel guilty cause no progress has been made for ages Lots of bigger jobs been done and the little ones have been pushed aside. So little jobs were on the hit list this weekend.... anything inside. Fool the brain into thinking it is just "Preparing" stuff Started gluing up some frames I'm making While they are drying There has been a couple of annoying leaks that just wouldn't go away Found them.... fixed them with Matrix Between showers ...... While the matrix was out - decided to mask and finish of the bottom edges of the overhead cupboards Fixed the holes in the floor from previous owners attempts at ..... don't know what And this The one on the left is the prototype for the one in the clamps Gotta love that drop saw Hard to see but you start with two 45 degree cuts and finish with 22.5 degree cuts to get around the corner Cause the middle piece isn't long enough to go right through the join Meaning the end two need a 45 to make a proper joinWhat's it all about you ask? Got four to make.... All different Here's where this one goes - round the top edge OK...... Boring But that's my weekend Cheers Atog

Most certainly not boring ATOG! I guess we all have these little jobs that must be done sooner or later. We never stop learning and the hints and clues that I am picking up are "priceless". Keep it up. Mick.

Hey Guys Thanks for the comments At times I feel a little self conscious about some of the more trivial posts relating to the Olympic You will see that through the thread from time to time I think it is a left over from another website But as you say - Even the small things need doing and it can be fun to watch ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D So thanks to you both Have thought of a different way of doing the curves on the beds Stay tuned Cheers Atog

Hey Gang Just a quick post about window push-out stays The Olympic didn't have all the stays ..... Sooo bought four new ones and fitted them to the front window Being new .... they are of a different size ... slightly longer But .... they fit the same holes as the originals Soooo fitted the stay to the window as per original holes and fitted the bottom of the stay in one of the original holes , drilling a new hole for the bottom hole in the stay Confused yet? If you ever need to do the same it will make sense once you have the stays in your hand and try it The new stays are better because they have a larger knurled nut and hold the window up more easily Cheers Atog

So here's a short version of recent work on the van Still working on the window frames and decided to make a shelf for the fire extinguisher as you enter the van Made a mold Glassed it up Bogged and sanded it Primed - filled and painted Took a couple of days to finish Probably cost around 30-40 dollars in bits Still have half a tin of primer and almost a full tin car bog and white enamel So really..... $10 - $15 in materials It just takes time Cheers Atog One week later.....Wasn't happy with a couple of small holes in the paint so decided to sand it back and spray with undercoat filler again.... Biiiiig mistake The filler crinkled the enamel paint up Sooo had to remove all the filler and paint - back to fibreglass and bog Then - Respray with filler Wait a couple of days sand..... spray with enamel Wait a couple of days ... sand and fill the last couple of holes and Respray with enamel only Looks good now ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Two weeks later Have glued some carpet/matting inside to protect the extinguisher from damage when travelling Added the last bit of pinchweld to the edge that will be seen Paint is now dry enough to get the signwriting done Looks pretty shmick finally Just got to fit it and all is good

Greetings Guys and Gals How did you spend the long weekend? Hope it was a good one for you all Me? Where else....... working on the Olympic Saturday....Time to get some supplies, timber check -, fibreglass and resin, check - stainless steel bolts, nuts, screws and washers...... check Time for work..... As usual can't finish just the one thing This time bit off more than I could chew Start at least six jobs and didn't finish any Sunday and Monday Work like crazy and .... finish a couple of things ;D ;D Guessing game timeWhat is this? Answer in a post or two Here's a hint..... under that glass is the wife's stainless steel salad bowl Ok so what was achieved? Lots of little bits and pieces Including finishing the fire extinguisher shelf and installing it Decided not to label it... so it will be less noticeable For anyone wanting to make shelving Here is a different way First make a flat sheet of fibreglass from 300 or 600 chopped strand Put it on a waxed flat surface and it will replicate the finish The fibreglass sheet in the grey mold is so thin (225 chopped strand) it can be cut with scissors For heavier piecesCut it up using a cutting disc on your grinder Then hot glue the pieces together Then fibreglass the bits together File, sand, bog and paint until you have what you want ..... Kinda like ..... ThisAnd this is in the making as well Needed to make a really thin piece of fibreglass.... Didn't make it as thin as I thought.... So had thick bits to make into the above pieces... With so little actually achieved - had to do something to make me feel better So made the backing for the lounge.... fitted the frames and two of the blinds.... add a couple of pillows and fitted seats ..... Finished up with an unfinished job..... Do you think it was worth it? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Yeah I thought it was pretty good too ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey Atog, Yep, as usual, well done! Stylish, classy, tasteful, a really nice interior. Looking really comfortable. (Gotta love that water tank filler "bowl"?? cap?? [yes?] you've made. So clever! Mine has almost rotted away and I was considering just how to bog it all up to hold it in place... for the time being, until I could think of something better. But you've done it for me. Hey Hey!!) Cheers Mike ;D ;D ;D

Awwhhhh Mike.... You're too clever by half you are Was going to try and string that out a bit..... Oh well .... maybe another time ;D ;D ;D Here it is in the making Used the wife's stainless steel salad bowl as a mould OOOOOhhhhhh Waaaaahhhhhh Cut out a section to create a flat on an angle Glassed a flat section in - then bogged it up Cutout the holes for the filler and water hose Painted it a couple of times Fitted the filler and connections..... in stainless steel ..... of course So now it looks like this Don't you just love photos that hide the runs in the paintwork!!!!Now all that is needed is - a cover for the outside of the van and to be fitted..... Lots of mucking about but it will look good Cheers Atouchofglass..... too much glass this weekend

G'day atog...remember me??! Yeah...I used to do something with a Millard, but it's been sooooo long I can't even remember where the van is, let alone what I was up to when I last saw it! I see you've been a busy, busy boy, even if you are only part finishing jobs. I dunno why you don't just make an Olympic mould and start making the retro Olympics from scratch! Man, your skills with that glassy stuff are just amazing! ;D And doesn't that inside look a real treat...nice upholstery...venetians...what can't you do?? This van is just a stunning example of how plodding along doing it little by little can end up with the most amazing transformation. Just blows me away... Oh, if you want to drag out a "quiz" a bit longer, take the finished item out of the background when you photograph the other "thingy" on the bench ;D ;D cheers, Al.

Al ...... Al is that you? Greeting mate.... Thought you had forgotten us with all that extra interesting research you have been doing.... Or has the house renovations taken a bit longer than first thought? Don't worry - you will be able to get back into the van soon enough and with renewed vigor after your forced break With the added bonus of the Missus being very happy with her newly renovated love nest Had thought of making Olympics from a mould ..... but would have to charge an arm and a leg for them Easier and less stressful to just do up one ;D ;D ;D ...... or maybe..... two She'd kill me if I did What is amazing is how the Missus comes in with a few soft furnishings and transforms the van into a real treat from a fairly unfinished state to WoW in next to no time The photos were angled that way cause that is the only corner that is even close to finished Sat down there last night and just dreamed of when it is all done - on the road and travelling..... Nice little dream that one As far as the skills with fibreglass go I am learning as I go Will try gelcoat soon .... as there is a little project that I'm itching to try..... yes that was a fibreglass joke there.... itching, fibreglass ;D ;D ;D ;D As for the quiz.... well ya live an' learn Bet you blokes can't guess what the large white shelf is for.... Hey I don't even know yet ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Atog, What a classy water tank filler! Polished Stainless Steel fittings no less... You really do a good job when you get going. Two fittings?? I just have a screw top to take off, then shove the hose in the hole. The second fitting is for...... ... praps a full pressure hose from an outside tap to a full pressure tap on the sink? Great work!! Cheers Mike ;D ;D ;D

Think I am going to have to stop looking at your thread.... I am so far behind with my little project that I am starting to feel real embarressed... With all the other things I have to do before we head off on our little jaunt north "Ugly as Sin" is not going to get too much attention.. bobt

Hey Bob Hope you enjoy the "Northern exposure" trip ;D ;D ;D UAS will still be waiting for you when you get back Gotta keep your Missus happy My Ball and Chain is just itching to get to work on the interior Has been for the past year When are you going to finish that thing? When can we use it? Why are you walking away from me? ;D ;D If the results for the bedding area are as good as the lounge I'll be wrapped..... Just got to get time to do all the jobs needed so she can start on the girlie bits for the beds SWMBO has already bought some of the appliances for the Olympic As well as cutlery and who knows what else..... stashed them aside ready to go in Speaking of working on the van...... What's this? Not sure if I should ban Mike from answering....... he'll have it in one post if his recent form continues ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Atog A white, highly polished, boxy inverted lid..... Well................ Hmmm........................... My best guess is that it is the shelf you get to install over the interior of the doorway entrance as you go in/out... for the 240v battery charger, car keys, maps pencil, notepad, or for the portable TV, radio, DVD player etc I think the fire extinguisher is a red herring!! How'd I go? Cheers Mike ;D ;D ;D
