Oh well ..... only sock and slippers allowed in the van now Yep just socks and slippers....... Seen my slippers? Here's one Wife gets a little upset when I wear 'em to bed ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D OK OK enough silliness Atog What has been achieved this weekend? eeeerrrrrr that's if you blokes aren't sick of seeing this van yet OK no van this time .......... How about this then Milled, biscuited and glued the boards up yesterday afternoon Left them clamped up overnight to dry Sanded using a friends heavy industrial sanding machine. Cut to size, routed a step into the top and Danish oiled today As well as a couple of other things...... But I'll hold that off posting them until they are nearer completion Hey Mike The steel ball thingy is a doming punch .... comes in lots of sizes But would be easier for most to use a piece of dowel that has been rounded on the end Cheers Atog Old vs New

Atog I like what you have done with the edging. Most practical. A good way to keep the dirt out of the corners, should be real easy to keep it clean. Glad to see you have the time to make such great progess. ;D just love the slippers ;D ;D bobt

Hey Putty Cutting your edges better, is easier said than done If you have a way of doing so - please post it Even if the edges are cut perfectly they are still an open edge I like it finished off - allows less possibility for insects to hide and looks better. Seems an aggressive post Perhaps you didn't mean it as such......
Yes this van is a '68 and technically this site is for 70's plus vans Haven't had any complaints yet We are happy to see what others are doing without being too pedantic about which site we should post on Are you working on a van currently or do you have a type in mind?
Guys As you may realise we got off track a bit ealier..... So while I appreciate a bit of fun it was getting ......eeerrrr off the family site into a more adult theme..... So removed the posts that fell into that catagory..... Mostly my own posts
Sorry to spoil the fun but I think we all knew where that was heading Better to nip it in the bud
On a different note The van is coming along real well ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Cheers Atog

Hey Jim Thanks for that Yes there are those out there that have a skewed view of life and feel it must fit neatly into the appropriate box Often find they aren't doing anything themselves - except watch and make negative comments The other forum you mentioned does have a sharp edge at times sadly Part of the reason I prefer here You will notice that the '68 Olympic is also posted on a Vintage forum with a lot more hits but a lot less information from me This site is far more supportive In general a good site with a few vocal ...... eeeeerr ...... grumps As we are now linked to other sites such as caravansplus we need to keep the posts up to our usually high standard On a nice note Great to see you've updated your Avatar Cooooooool ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The photo of the Thompson ..... very nice Cheers Atog

Hi Guys,
I am involved with Classic Cars and the dividing line between Classic and ordinary cars, no slur intended, is 30 years. Technically if your car is 29 years old it is not a classic now - but next year it will be. The distinction blurs as time goes on.
I think that the approach of all on this forum to encourage the diversity of vans and not get bogged down with the pedantics of the year of manufacture is right. Sometimes it might be only a pencil date on the underside of a drawer.
If it looks a Classic then it is, for this forum. Atog's Olympic is 1968, mine is 1972. Put them side by side and there are only minor differences. They are both family and should be treated as such. That is what drew me to this forum.
Cheers, techron

Dear Mr Atog For all intensive purposes, 1968 came after 1970 so you van is eligble to be posted on this site. My claim for mine, is the one owner had it in 1970.... ;D ;D your failure to post on going up dates to the delightful olympic on this forum will result in me endeavouring to remotely inflict pain... on you ;D ;D I will sik my FNQ relatives onto you..heh heh

Atog, I presume "putty" won't be getting an invite to the Garden Party when the good ship Olympic is launched?? More cucumber sandwiches for the rest of us!! ;D ;D ;D Keep up the good work you are doing on the van, atog. Don't be distracted by what the 'critics' say. The rest of us are looking forward to seeing this van completed with some amazing joinery work inside. Anybody can make a perfect mitre joint, but it takes REAL SKILL to cut a joint that requires a bit of putty. Head down, b*m up, son...you're doin' well. cheers, Al.

It's looking soooo nice. I would have thought Mrs Atog deserves something better than a hand pump. It somehow looks out of place amongst the splendour.

Come on Guys give a bloke a chance I thought the Cheese and Kisses was impatient ;D ;D Speaking of which The Ball and Chain doesn't like gas in the van ..... guess I'll sleep outside ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Anyway.... she wants to do most of the cooking outside on a gas burner ring like the type used for woks or a mini Webber we have In the mean time ... will have a mini microwave that will sit in its place for when we are attached to the mains Eventually after she gets sick of cooking outside and getting rained on..... there will be a two burner gas stove to the right of the sink - very compact and with a black glass top Because the gas lines have to be installed by a gas contractor it will come later The water pump that is installed is the first of two taps The second will be in the middle behind the sink That one is for mains pressure ....... Problem as always is cash .... Need to register the van this month "March" so it can be repainted in April (Easter Break) ...... cash Got the money for the paint..... part of the cash from my ute selling Just spent over six hundred on the vinyl backings, vinyl flooring, foam for seats and backs, sink, various bits and pieces. Have to stop and save a bit for "incase" with the registration Had thought about installing a 12volt pump for the water ..... but it is just another thing that leaks or can go wrong. Kiss principle when it comes to stuff that can go wrong Keep It Simple Stupid So there it is - time no cash ..... cash no time.... This weekend is fine and sunny so I get to be under the van finishing the axle paint job... Will also be doing a lot of little boring jobs to straighten up the van so it can be towed.... Cheers and keep the good work up Guys Atog

Hi Atog Stick with the hand pump, they are most reliable. Do not need 12/240v power to make them work, nor are they as noisey as some of the 12 volt things... They are relatively cheap and easy to repair if they fail, don't think a 12 volt pump would be... How do you get water out if you are on the side of the road with no power connected... or how do you get it out if the battery is flat. Flat batteries are not an unknown... Then of course there is the oppurtunity for a leak inside. The chance for a pump to empty the contents of the water tank into the inside of your loverly caravan. A mains water tape is a good idea.. Yep for the important things stick to kiss. As for the stove in the van, I guess management has never had anything to do with caravans before hence the concern. Never fear she will change. Mine did...............

Yes it was the mains tap and plastic plumbing that I was hinting none too subtly at And while your at the mains water, run a line to your drawbar and mount a 'garden variety' garden tap (well one of those nice ceramic valve ones). Very handy to have an water on tap by the door.

Hey Gents Hey Bobt Yes the "Other half, Better half, Cheese and kisses" has had a fair bit of caravaning durng her life. Her father is a caravan repairer. His preference is for Viscount Supreme's Her whole family traveled Australia during the early 70's. So much so that she has taken till now to agree that caravans are OK (never stayed in one spot for long) We've been living in the one house for 12 years.... the longest either of us have been in one spot She will come round to the idea of indoor cooking Hey Wahroonga Ceramic valved taps? Please explain? Not really familiar with them Good idea though about mounting one on the drawbar One couple I know have a fitting mounted at the back of the van so they can set up a camp shower and use the water from the tank All good ideas and will consider how I can apply them in the future Cheers Atog

The bottom one. Quarter turn tap. Or this ball valve may be more attractive? All at Bunnings Maybe even this type of water entry? A commercially fitted job

Just be careful of some of the Bunnings stuff. I installed their taps on my water tank less than two months ago... ...I've never known good quality brass to show "rust stains". Seems like there might be a bit of 'sleight-of-hand' involved...?? Colour the product so it appears to be brass, but may not be so?? Better to go to the wrecking yard/second hand yard. Plenty of old lever taps made in years gone by. Good quality back then, too. Shoulda gone there meself, ...and looks like it won't be long before I have to go there for a replacement Don't you go puttin' any inferior products on the good ship Olympic, atog!! ;D ;D ;D cheers, Al.
