Hi murray - thanks for the compliment. By all means drop by when it suits. I have seen a few of these threads, ill revisit again as I usually do. The old man and I have been very busy, and below is a teaser of what was done to date (in two days basically). Video will be available of course, although at times we are working at such a pace I almost forget to capture the moment. In the process of removing ceiling masonite. Notice the foam insulation: Looking to the front: Looking towards the back: Next up will be the removal of the hatch and making a new one from a nice timber so we can have it oiled for a nice wood finish.

It was a lot of fun be involved again in a restoration, much better that seating in the couch The making of the "ensuite" will be interesting and I wonder if using vinyl like THIS will be an option.

Congratulations with your new van.It looks to be in good condition for age. Glad to hear your trip went well. I am sure i spotted you on your way back just outside of Newcastle unless there is another bogie axle aluminum van behind a dark disco. I am sure it will turn out as you want second time round is usually easier and the Millard turned out beautifully looking forward to reading your exploits as they happen, good luck though I don't think you will need it.
have fun and stay safe Bruce

Gotta change my username, I know I will be working on the van weeknights (smaller jobs) then on the weekends he will assist me with the larger stuff. At this stage he is happy if I feed him lamb or pork on the BBQ, no other payment required I would like to have the van registered in 8 weeks, and showers/toilet can be added the following month.

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could show me (photo) of what the wall to ceiling and corner trims where used back in the day. Some have a flat timber (about 20mm wide and 4 mm thick) and others show something else. When I put the walls back in and the ceiling, I am looking at options to cover gaps between these and also gasps between walls.
Cheers,

Zooming the photo in THIS LINK it appears to me that the trims were half round

So basically some of the trim we took out. May look at a slimmer option like the white plastic right angle strips we have and see if that would would instead.

I finally managed to get the trip video completed. Not the best but gives an idea. Gitano and I have had a great time travelling (we both love road trips).

That will be a good start and put special attention to those caravans near the beach.

Dont you love old caravans... I decided to look at the flooring and parts of it where lose from the chassis (broken rivets - things just dont last 50 years lol). So my OCD got the better of me and I have decided to remove all rivets and replace with new. The nuts and bolts place in Hobart had ones exactly the same as original so I bought floor and wall (smaller length). Luckily for me the lino tiles are easy to peel up to remove and replace them and can be put back down (will replace them in the future anyway).

Do not get involved in a to big job and be unable of using the van when the weather improve. Just do the essentials and then slowly bit by bit the rest.

Great videos as always. There's something to be said for aluminium frames that still look like new after 50 years. Just goes to show modern van manufacturers have no interest in their vans lasting this long. Looking forward to the rebuild now you have plenty of experience in renovating old vans. . I think most of us only ever do this once so we never get to take it to the next level. I'd do heaps of things differently if I started one again.

Snoops - i think every van is different in terms of work required, so basically after 3 vans (this one included) theres new work I havent done before. And youre right, second time around makes a difference in some respects but ultimately its just about having a go which is what this forum is about Ceiling Removal

looks like it is going along great guns. I do remember a pile out side the door of my van looked very similar to that one Just a thought along the top of the cupboards if you place timber like the timber spaces you took out of the roof will give you something solid for the ply to sit against and stop any bowing along edge also will be something to tack trim to. have fun and stay safe hope you and your father had a great fathers day Bruce ( I know i did )
