Wouldn't have thought the nose weight would be that heavy - what does it actually weigh on the ball? Although stiffer springs would work, you will lose the ride quality doing this. A better (but more expensive and fidley) way of doing it would be some airbags inside the rear springs. That way most of the time (when you're not towing) you get the nice supple ride, but put the van on, stuck some air in the bags and you're level. In any case, I don't think it will tow badly like it is - you may not need to do anything. Great result by the way - just watched that last vid. Oh, and you going to get your Dad to put his new acquisition up on this forum? I won't spoil the surprise for others, but he PM'ed me so I know - looking forward to seeing it.

OK, so just so that everyone knows, my father is a new member here under the name gitano. He is the proud owner of a 1977 Franklin 16ft, in pretty much original condition. I will make a video (of course) of the caravan etc and I will ask him to post of a new thread under Hall of Fame.
Snoops - yes I considered air bags, but the other option also is for me to put 20mm longer rear springs. But, when towing it, it was smooth and steady at 90kph, no issues at all. Even when doing an evasive action (damn stupid cyclists) it didnt cause me any concern.

tell swmbo to try www.slumbershop.com.au/ in Liverpool street ,Hobart. We brought foam there , material from spotlight (on special 40% off) and had a local upholsterer do it still expensive though cheers Murray

I got the mattress from there, they have a good service. Perhaps Decorama can be another option but at this time of the year every body is busy.

I don't know what they are charging for labour, but upholstery fabric is pretty easy to sew with a domestic sewing machine.

tim, i think the issue for her is end product. she wants it tomlook pro, not home job and for this one must pay. at the end of the day, with all the work done it will look great and still be a fraction of the cost new of caravans and a hell lot more class

We now booked in an upholsterer to get the work done. Using the best foam and having piping, just over $1400. Wont be ready until Feb tho On another topic, i bought caravan curtain wire and have some q's regarding fitting. The millard with the alloy frame allows me to anchor the wire nicely, but before i drill the issue i have is that the curtains will, sit at the frame edge, about 1cm past the sides. Is this going to provide enough coverage? Can someone show me some pics on how its set up? Also how much extra curtain above width of window does one go?

Got another 'little job' done, kinda important one really. Curtain wire is now installed, would be a bit awkward at night without curtains

Just got back from a 3 day long weekend Millard first run. Weather was very average, but only confirmed how comfortable and cosy the Millard is. If we were tenting it we would of come home yesterday. Rained and rained and its water tight. It was also good to come back with a small list of mods/additions, nothing to big. Main one is to partially convert the cupboard into a pantry and its perfect as it sits on top of axle.

This is the best part of caravaning, a good quality time with family and friends. Many morw trips to come, for sure. It will take couple of more trips to fine tuning tghe van and cargo and then will be much better,.

Nice little video. Is camping permitted in the dunes or anywhere at that river/inlet/beach? If so, that looks like a top little spot to set up.

Thanks, the only thing is that it got a bit repetitive with the mirror view, but was more to view the van movement.
You were able to camp right on the beach at Dolphin Sands, now they put BFR (Big F#$^#$ing Rocks) to prevent vehicles driving up. I understand its for conservation, but as usual its only a few twats that ruin it for the rest!

when i got the caravan it came with a one piece annexe and no poles. does anyone know where i can get poles cheaply and if anything special about the millard. the canvas also needs repairing along with zippers etc. never stops...

Hi again... I fitting the annexe to trial it out and look at the repairs ahead of me, but as it happens, I am now not sure if its actually the right annexe. I took a video of the setup and I believe the annexe is meant for a 15ft, not the 16ft. You will see that the ends dont fully fit the rail and the bottom doesnt even touch the floor. Can you experts let me know if my hunch is correct so as to avoid wasting my time repairing this annexe.
