Just a quick update. Got the new draw bar made up, now for the install over the weekend. Its basically a carbon copy of the original, with dual chains.

G'day tasmillard, Are you talking about the plastic strip that's fitted around the window timber frame opening before the window frame is inserted into the cladding? If so, have a look at the window mould in the Camec catalogue. It's in the centre section of Page 90 near the bottom. Also have a look at the mouldings displayed on the Caravan and RV Works website . They show a diagram of each of the mouldings that are available, and the window mouldings start on Page 3. cheers, Al.

Thanks mustang and pisces51 - ill check this and see how we go. The piece is for the wall cladding that runs to the edge of the window frame. So its an edge piece.

I am trying to find more about my van and i am not getting anywhere. Why can i not find any millards with the door behind the axle? Can anyone tell me about this and if my van is unique or a limited build. Driving me mad trying to find out about it.

hi again, your van is not unique, just not many were made as people didnt like having to walk through the bedroom to get to the kitchen! the later models were made with the door in front of the kitchen,so the beds were down the back. All manufacturers had the same model as yours,in fact Franklin continued theirs until they closed in the early 80s. Hope this helps hughdeani

Thanks hughdeani - obviously there wasnt many sales as you state due to that reason. We have thought about changing the layout around, moving the kitchen to where the bed area is and bed to back, but naturally its a huge job.

OK all, Camec have quoted me almost $16 a meter for the strip, so theres NO WAY ill be paying close to $480. I have now emailed a company (www.app.net.au) who specialise in plastic profiles. See what they come up with. Short of that, I am running out of options here...

Mustang - yes I know what you mean, hence why I am just finishing other internal reno stuff but I will try and source something first else resort to other tactics. Yes the van will be painted inside eventually but we want to be sure of the colour scheme before we go ahead. Also, van is close to being registered so we want to use it as is

G'day tasmillard, I meant to say earlier in this thread that I've always worked on the basis that Millard chassis numbers from M14000 and above, were from 1970 onwards. That would mean your van is a 1970 model, and probably in the first half of that year because you don't have the triple louvre windows that Millard introduced in the second half of 1970. I've also had a look through my extensive collection of Millard caravan photos, and I can't find another example of one with the door at the rear, so it does look like you've got a fairly uncommon model. I wonder if somebody specially ordered it to be made that way?? For the plastic mouldings, have a read of this thread about a Coronet poptop van being renovated by another Tassie member (although we haven't heard from her for quite a while)... 1977 Coronet poptop H15666You can read the whole thread if you wish, or you can skip over to this post on Page 4 where she talks about getting her mouldings from Procom Plastics in VictoriaThen go to this post on Page 5 to see the mouldings fitted. She doesn't say what the cost of getting them sent over was, so I have no idea how that would compare to the figure you've been given from elsewhere. cheers, Al.

Thanks for clarifying this, mid 1970 it is then.
I struck it lucky I think, just got back from Mitre 10 and they had cap moulding to suit 3mm. Ill post up some pics later when I start installing them, although they only had half of what I need so will look elsewhere for these. They are not uncommon, so we were very surprised to find them given no results found on Google for these!
Perhaps my finding may help others, and price wise they are under $5 for 2.4 meter lengths.

Just a quick update. Got the 4 legs on today, so rock solid now Also started putting in the trim (and sliced my finger!) but coming good. The only issue for me is that I purchased the cream, not white and hope I can get some more!

Today I removed the oem hatch and gave it a clean up but of course, being a public holiday, couldnt buy the bits I needed to re-fit today. SO thats tomorrow job... I also secured the front dining seats, the one against the window is one we created based on the other original one. This will give more room near the kitchen for more storage and larger bench top.

That's pretty nifty carpentry work there, tasmillard. And it certainly shows you've created a heap more space. Well done! I also like the replacement mouldings around the window frames. They tidy up the windows quite nicely and make them look new again. cheers, Al.

Thanks. Carpentry is new to me, so it was bascially using logic to design the benches and tracing out the original shape and copying measurements. The space left next to the bench will be used for more kitchen storage and a kitchen bench will flow from the kitchen to meet the bench (where blur container is). Yes happy with the finish on the window cap, and also made a video on itCheers,

Painted the rims mat black today as they were filthy and paint peeling etc. I went for black because I wanted to offset the black with these chrome rim trims. Can anyone confirm if they fir the 13" torana rims? Also on the rims, i will be looking for some chrome hub caps to suit, and due to the hub extending out the standard caps wont fit. Anyone know an alternative or any ideas?

I seem to remember a discussion on the Vintage forum some time in the recent past, about this very issue of standard hubcaps not fitting. If my memory is correct, somebody suggested "moon caps", which stick out further to accommodate the hub. You could explore that option, perhaps.
cheers, Al.

Thanks, ill look out for these online...
Now another question, the dining table folds down to make the bed using the benches. Problem is, when I lower the table the leg isnt the one that supports the front. Is there something missing, or have I not figured it out? The table is hinged at the wall so no issues there.

The table is supported by both benches, doesn't need a leg. Btw,your van is looking great! Cheers hughdeani

Ahh of course! I think I have made mods that have impacted this design. I have made use of a few inches behind the seats that back onto the bunks to give mor leg room, but now of course it means the table doesnt reach the bench. I want the leg room, so looks like ill need to make a new table top to suit new dimensions.
