Well folks we finally had a date to have repairs done on our loved Capricorn Birdie Deluxe "Tweety Bird". We drove up to Sydney for the appointment and as we drove into Barnes Caravans I had my fingers crossed the quote would not go over the insured amount.
They went over Tweety and said "no need to worry Joe, the quote is well under the insurance figure". A sigh of relief from both Mausie and myself.
New aluminium in one side, new roof and new rear. I was even happier when he said he could fix the 4 seasons hatch and that they have a guy who will remake the Capricorn logos. The original has no Tassie so when we had them made during the resto we asked for the Apple Isle to be added.
So sometime in June Tweety will be taken back to Sydney and be fixed up :-)
I will be fixed at the end of this month - total knee replacement - that will slow me up a bit hey!!!
Cheers for now Joe ( & Mausie)

Well I'm totally confused. The NRMA Assessor came out took a distant look at the hail damaged van and said "it's a write off". Really I said how do you come to that mind blowing conclusion ? He said it is an old van - dribble dribble dribble. I felt like giving him either a bib or an uppercut Grrrr!!! Got a phone call a few days later from the NRMA they confirmed the van was a write-off even though it was insured for $10,000 and quote for was $8200. He said I could buy it back for $1500 but managed to bring him down to $1000. This defies all logic. &@#%^ Well we took Tweety Bird to Barnes Caravans for repair. Those boys know their stuff and did a brilliant job. Almost as good as what I did ha ha!!! I could have done the job but after total knee replacement recently I am a little less flexible to be climbing ladders. :-( Saturday we went a picked Tweety Bird up, it looks great. Now to put the stripes and Capricorn logo on. Well that is about it for now. Joe & Mausie

G'day Joe and Mausie, So glad to hear you've got your precious van all sorted out! It would have been an absolute shame to not get it back on the road in the first-class condition that you restored it to. Everybody who has mentioned they've dealt with the guys at Barnes Caravans speaks highly of them, so the job should last well into the next century. Perhaps you should have gone to them for your knee replacement?? Hopefully it won't be long before you are able to get back out on the road and enjoying life with the 'new' Birdie. Catch up with you both down the track sometime. cheers, Al.
