G'day Joe, Yep. You've obviously been too busy on your van, and have missed something I posted a month or so ago. See it here . cheers, Al.

While you are in Tassy, try & get to "The Wall" at Derwent Bridge. Amazing Huon Pine Carving.

Don't come home without a photo of the van next to a sign for Mount Capricorn in SW Tas; or outside the "Capricorn Ridge Miniature Goats" farm in eastern Hobart; or the "Capricorn One Mohair Farm" in Glaziers Bay! Don't bother about "Capricorn Cakes" in Granton because they don't appear to exist anymore. (?) Enjoy the trip! cheers, Al.

The Capricorn and car have both attracted lots of attention where ever we are. We have had only a few days of rain and good news - no water leaks at this stage :-)
Al - too late to visit your suggested "Capricorn" type attractions we have moved on. But we did go to the auto museum and train museum in Launceston. The train museum has a very nice and unmolested old bond wood caravan :-)
BobT - the ute is going like a beaut. What did the original add say "You are travelling 1st class".

That's a coincidence, a week or two back I spotted a lovely pale yellow Austin 1800 crossing the Tasman Bridge heading into Hobart. It didn't have a caravan on the back, but it must have been you!

Now that we are back from a successful tour of Tassie in the Capricorn Birdie Deluxe t's time to finish a few little things.
Not much to do but we ran out of time before the trip. We need to add stripes and a few little trims inside.

We need to add stripes and a few little trims inside. Mausie & Joe M&J A few stripes may have had you going faster up the hilly bits , no flames though When you have time, post a few photos cheers Murray

Interesting setup. Does the old ute run hydrolastic suspension? I'm not sure how they would get the load carrying capacity for a ute ( or do they run an engine drive pump to add more pressure, like a Citroen).

Hi Shane The Ute is stock standard. The ute's have heavy duty rear hydrolastic suspension bags. It has a 1100kg tow capacity as stated by BMC. The tow bar is also a standard factory fitting.
I initially had doubts myself but when the van was attached it and the car sat level (and without load levellers). We were very careful how we loaded the van and what went in it. (Chocolate from Cadbury does not count) :-)

Well don't it knock the wind out of your sails - Australia Day a day of celebration comes along and so does one of the most violent hail storms in over 45 years in Canberra.
The result is a once lovingly restored Capricorn Birdie Deluxe reduced to 3/4 of the panels damaged by hail.
Boo Hoo Hoo!!!
Sob Sob Sob!
If I can't fix it before the Vintage Nationals at South West Rocks we will be showing off a van that looks like a before shot of a restoration.
We feel gutted

Hi Bob & all The insurance will cover damages I just hope the quote is under the insured value and then, that the repair is as good as the job I did on the van. :-)
The van will get an annex to hide the scars until we can have the aluminium replaced after the Nationals in South West Rocks. That's the best we can do for now :-(
Ho hum! Joe & Mausie

Hi guys. I cannot help but noticing how similar looking this van is to the Escort series of vans. Do any of you know whether they were made by the same company??

Hi Olive, Capricorn were made in Melbourne and Escort were made in NSW. Nothing to do with each other build wise. Hope this helps, Cheers hughdeani
