Howdy Andy, It's great to see a Classic on the road, You sure picked a ripper spot for a camp, any fish So, you're heading up to Emerald for a bit of Prospecting, best of luck to you. We were there around a year ago now, had a bit of luck finding some small Gems but they came from bags of diggings we bought at some of the local Gem Stores, $ 10 - $20 a bag. I did have a go at digging for Gems but, "man" it sure can get hot up that way. A bit of advise, take plenty of drinking water with you, the only water available is from the one and only Town Bore,in Saphire and it comes at a cost, No good for drinking unless it's boiled first, rather buy a block of the good stuff. After Emerald, The one and only bottle store is half way between Saphire and Rubyvale, r/h side, look for a tin shed. We stopped in a small Caravan Park in Rubyvale, great place and friendly owner, as you come to the intersection in Rubyvale turn right drive about 100mt, cross a dry wash then turn left, the entrance to the Park is on the right over a cattle stop, it's a small Park but plenty of shade and all amenities have been done up. Keep us informed of your Hugh finds Andy, ;D ;D ;D and keep the pic's coming. Best of luck. kiwijim

G,day Kiwijim Havent tried fishing here but heaps of yabbies. yeah the gemfields are a great part of the world.Reckon I've found that shed between Saphire and Rubyvale a couple of times before(as well as the Rubyvale pub,Pats gems&anarchie hotel) As long as they still sell this I'll be happy Jim I must admit the chances of finding that elusive star sapphire on the fields arent good and I like you arent into digging that much but who knows might get lucky and at least its warm! ;D Probably wont stay in one of the caravan parks as the van is set up for remote area living so will be long grassing it on the fossicking lands for a couple of months.Anyway I'll keep posting photos along the way Cheers Andy

Yeah bob hope to be up on the gemmies for a couple of months. The van is 24' and probably had it for about 18 months. Its a good setup to spend a bit of time in as i travel quite a bit and live remotely at times. So youre thinking of doing a trek yourself in July ? Andy

The Sand Groper and the THOMSON are finally ready to hit the road at first light tomorrow morning. ;D ;D ;D First days travel will take us to Wellington Dam, this is only a couple of hours drive South of Perth, but a nice place to camp. If any locals see us on the road, give us a honk, better still, if you're heading South with a Classic behind, why not tag along Cheers kiwijim

geez andy your giving me some serious case of itchy feet.. still have to wait till mid July before we can head off.. not letting the misses see your photos. I could find myself in trouble. One of my retirement dreams is to hook up and cruise slowly up the road and stop at spots I find on the way rather then do what we do now which is the exact opposite... love the photos of the old bridges.. those bl&%$%dy enviro loos have cost me a lot of money... Now common kiwjim.... who would ever believe a YELLOW TRUCK was a fire truck... ;D

'" Hey There" Andy, You sure are lucky traveling in what looks like great Fine weather, I wish we could say the same, It's been raining just about every day since we left Perth almost two weeks ago. Bobt, Yes, in the days when I was in the Volunteer Fire Brigade, we did have Yellow Trucks, the reason for this was because they were supposed to be more visible in smoke, Here's proof..... The Daughter (also in the Brigade ) and myself, photo taken in a shopping Centre, way back in 1997, we were drumming up support for the use of Smoke Alarms in all houses....... The old Mack Fire Truck in the previous photo, was used to fight the fire which completely destroyed the Township of Dwellingup, back in the 60's (I think). Any-way since I lasted posted anything, we have traveled to Esperance where we left the Thomson, then traveled a further 160 km to check out a very small settlement of Orleans Bay...... As usual we had no sooner arrived there when the rain arrived so, left the fishing gear in the car and returned to Esperance. Here are a couple of shots of the Beach-front Caravan Park where we stopped, the first shot is of the Park and the second is of the view from the front of the Park...... While in town we came across this monster, parked at the information Centre...... A few more shots of the Coastline around Esperance...... Tomorrow we're off again heading West, then South off the Highway to a nice peaceable resort on the far South Coast called Bremmer Bay. Cheers All kiwijim ;D

(Never hurts to ask... ;D ) Find one for me so I can get out and about and do what you guys are doing! Great photos you've both posted. Keep 'em coming so I keep motivated to look for the "right" van! ;D cheers, Al.

Howdy Al, Something to keep the Man Motivated, Hmmmmm Well I haven't seen any A1 Viscounts lately but, while cruzin around Bremmer Bay I did spot this Chesney 16ft'er it was sitting beside a Holiday Home, looking rather un-loved and being used as a store-room......... Now, Bremmer Bay should be renamed "Bummer Bay" I was determined to go fishing, the Missus said....you go, I'll keep the Thomson warm, Off I went, the clouds were pretty heavy but the rain held off until I had baited and done the first cast, then down it came, Headed back to the Nissan and grabbed the wet weather gear, gum boots an all, back down to the beach to find three pelicans laughing at me....... To rub salt into the wound, just as I got back to the rod, a bloke hauled up a 10kg Salmon on a light whiting line, determined to catch something, I sat there in the pouring rain, hands freezing in the wind for around an hour, in that time the bloke next to me caught another Salmon the same size as the first. another half hour passed when I finally felt the line come alive, Yep you would know it..... a mighty Whiting, all of 75mm long. Buried the bait and went back to the Thomson. Meat Balls for tea. We're off to Albany tomorrow, if I can't catch a fish, maybe we will see some Whales heading up the Coast. kiwijim

Howdy Dave & All, We arrived in Albany to clear blue skies, almost as good as Nth QLD. ;D ;D ;D Did a good tour around the coast line and as far out (18km) as Whale World and saw the Salmon Holes on the way back. The tide was going out so no good for fishing, talked to a couple of blokes coming up from the beach, they said the Salmon still haven't come any-where near the shore so, not much happening at present. We're staying here for 4 days then heading a bit further West, heard of a good camp site called Parry Beach, appears that for $7.00 a day there are hot showers, water, toilets, and camp fires are allowed, that's what we call O.K. Here are a few pic's of a very nice part of the West......... kiwijim

G'day all, Well back to the land of the living!Got to sunny queensland and got the flu(that would be right )Anyway it will take more than that to kill me off ;D Bobt have you thought about where your going in july(the trouble with oz is trying to work out where to go as we are so lucky -too many choices hey!) Kiwijim even though it may be raining those photos look pretty good to me(and the fine weather didnt stop this bl#@$%y flu ;D) Al got my eyes peeled for a bargain viscount for you Anyway thought I'd post a couple more pics of my trip.Travelled on to Barcaldine and stayed out at Lloyd James weir for 3 days(a very nice place)The thing about these towns is there is always something different to see in each one of them! In Barky(as the locals call it) I saw the Tree of Knowledge and the old Radio Theatre as well as the old C pattern windmill following this I pulled up at Jericho and camped at the community park on the river(great little venue that is run on a donation basis) I went for a walk around town and found the Jericho drive in which holds 32 cars!!!(these are as rare as rocking horse s#@t ) Next day I moved on and have arrived at my destination Camping out of Sapphire on the Fossicking land. Now if you are on a budget and looking for a cheap place to camp for up to 3 months in a very friendly place this is it. Fossicking license(6 month) $24.20 Weekly camping fee $19.30 per week (a pretty good gig for the price) Now I gotta be honest haven't found a huge sapphire yet but doesnt matter I did see this little gem(my grand daughter Adelaide ) Anyway if I get lucky with the gemstones I'll post some photos Cheers Andy ;D
