Oh, forgot to post a short video of the campsite where I was the other weekend. It was quite windy - you can see the trees blowing around quite a bit, so I couldn't get the drone up much higher than it was here as it was really being blown about, but considering how small it is (a Mavic Pro weighing 700 grams) it shoots some pretty good video. Once I get the hang of it some more, it will be even better. ๐๐

G'day All,
We are "on the road" at the moment, having decided to get away for Xmas and the New Year period (...doing 'something different' this year )
We have driven from Wollongong NSW down to Cooma, and then over the Snowy Mountains down to Khancoban, and then on to Myrtleford in N.E. Vic, where we are staying until after New Years Day. Temps are 'bloody hot' at the moment, with days above 30 deg since we left home (today 39 deg ).
Lots of permanent vans on site here in a separate section, with just about every brand from the 1970s represented. Walk along two streets in the park, and it's a trip down memory lane to see all the different vans.
Here's a few photos from the trip so far...
1. This one caught my eye in the Cooma CP. It's not a Classic, but a more modern Euro Hobby model, 10ft length, fibreglass composite construction. When every Tom, Dick, and Harry is towing a monster van these days, it was unusual to see a 'little baby' version...
2. This one also caught my eye, not only because it was being towed by a Mini, but when it was set up it 'telescoped' out at the front to increase the floor size by another two feet. From what I can tell, it's a Gidget Retro Teardrop Camper, but the company went bust in Jan 2018...
3. This is us set up for Xmas in the Myrtleford CP...
4. Next to us for a couple of days was this 1978 Viscount poptop in very good condition. The elderly owners bought it a couple of years ago. It had been stored in a shed for a number of years...
5. Over the back of us is a Valiant caravan from circa 1965. Young couple have owned it for 5 years. Was supposed to have been restored, but has been problematic with a few leaks since purchase. Has been given a 'non-original paint job' as part of the so-called restoration process...
That's it so far...
cheers, Al.

At Mums for Chrissy at Lake Tyres Beach. Not much room and nothing level here, but squeezed it in. Postie wasnโt super impressed though. ๐๐ Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr

Traveled to Port Fairy today in the Chev towing the Travelhome. Here for a week with the Rod Run on the weekend. Most years there are a few vans on the oval on Sunday so I will hopefully get some photos to post.

I love it when I can post here when it's me on the road! First night of a 9 night trip with 'Molly'. Staying at a mates place tonight just near the Hume highway, so easy access for a run North tomorrow. Heading to Corowa for over a week for the Military Swim in I go to every year. This year is the 'Year of the Amphibian' so there will be swiming! I'll take some pics and videos - there's some really nice machinery gets up there. Here's my tug for the week. My 101. Very slow trip with the van on the back - 80 is comfortable on the flat. IMG_0359 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr

Then things pick up with Bridgewater in February, Powlett River not long afterwards, Easter at Narrandera and the the VV Nationals in SA. Hopefully all will be able to go ahead.

A few friends decided to look up another friend at Winton, so a few months back we decided on a date, old vans & some old cars to make the journey. Starting point Gum Tree Lodge Day 1 is usually full of surprisesA transmission oil leak had George under the 'Diner' for a fix, the lifting gear was "borrowed" !!! All ok & we journey to Gayndah where a runaway boat leaves the tow vehicle & smashes into our Cruiser on the Isis River bridge, another second & "Winnie" was a write off, also lucky the van didn't get rear ended? We could keep driving, despite about $15/20K of damage?? the passenger door was jammed with the front guard, making for an uncomfortable entry & exit for Colleen, having to climb out the driver's door. The trailer was not clipped to the towball, no safety chain & no pressure in the RH tyre which caused it to abruptly change direction. We managed to cover about 400km & pull in at Moura, the beer was welcome. (More to follow.)

Day 2 Uneventful Nice grassy site at Barcaldine, the last blue sky we saw. Barcaldine has a large site dedicated to the working man, also some nice toys. Jerihco is a tiny town, but has a drive-in theatre,

Onto Longreach & our river boat cruise was cancelled due to the Thompson River beginning to flood. So we boarded a Cobb & Co coach for a ride around the back streets of the town, apparently 3000 people & 4000 dogs ?? there would be few home invasions in Longreach. Did Cobb & Co invent the disk brake ? check out the image below: The rain is coming, so we decided to high tail it home. Emerald caravan park, it started raining here & most of the way home, after Winnie was drowned by oncoming rain & B Doubles travelling the opposite way, we are pleased to say the 55 yo caravan weathered the roads & weather amazingly. Cheers

Just spent a week with the SEQVVVMOB, we visited several towns off the track. First night at Blackbutt was 1 degree IN the van. Yarraman, Kingaroy, Biggenden, & finishing at the Gum Tree lodge at Howard, for the Coal Festival. Not many Hot Rods due to fuel ? Thank you Dianne, for organising. Cheers
