Greetings All Well not a lot has been done over the past four days Friends over and ..... you know the rest Some electrics and wiring set up for the indicators and stop lights On Wednesday got the local TJM shop to put aside a trailer pack of lights. All the things needed to set up a trailer..... or..... a caravan So some time Monday will shell out a lot of green to get the LED lights (Hella) Cheaper than buying them individually Looking forward to registering the caravan in January..... perhaps.... We'll see All in preparation for the paint job in April..... again ..... perhaps Don't you just love a definite maybe Cheers to all Bludge ... eeeeer......... Atog

Hello Hello Hello Thought it was time for an update Three days break so far and one to go..... gotta love this time of year.... if it wasn't quite so hot... Anyway Been at the 12 volt electrics this weekend Finally got the outside light wired up.. Just to prove it see the lights on the switches outside light is the orange one... just to say "Remember to turn me off." And added a couple of s/s reading lights to the front and a Stainless steel clock The holes for the wiring were already there so the spacing was decided for me. The back section will get the same treatment (minus the clock) eventually... time and money permitting You wouldn't believe how much work is involved in running the wiring and setting up the fuse box and getting it all set up right... more work to do tomorrow.. Also made and fitted the frame around the cupboard above the kitchen Cheers Atog

Thanks Guys I try.... Actually my missus says I'm really trying ;D ;D ;D The local ships chandlery gets a regular visit from me. Seems all that stainless steel keeps calling me .... Atoooooggggg,AAAaattttttoooooooogggggg come to meeeeeeee bit eerie really ;D ;D ;D Least that's the excuse I give the ball and chain ;D ;D ;D If it isn't stainless there is little chance of it going into the van... Kind of like a bower bird and anything blue. Drives the missus crazy at times More progress in the coming weeks. Cheers Atog

IT'S enough to give you the Jimmy ...... So no working on the outside of the van this weekend Weather forecast....... Cyclone ..... or just torrential rain Just brilliant. What to do.... What to do..... OK no chance of doing the clearance or brake lights No chance of getting under the van to finish the Axle and wheels No chance of doing the left hand side of the door HMMMMM OK........ mill some timber for the trims instead.... Didn't want to do this quite so soon ..... but ... it's that or nothing.... Guess what guys .... I've just spent the past 4 hours milling timber for the trims around the van..... Maybe I'll do a bit of trim making tomorrow .... Currently the third Toohey's Old is calling me Cheers and Beers Atog

:)G'Day Atog, Matie...realy love that S/Steel, looks really good against the white background. I have gone for the Bronze fittings in the Thomson as all the walls are varnished ply, I see that you have a 12Volt shop up your way, have you seen the 12v Micro-wave ovens that they have, I saw then advertised on their web-site last week I know what you mean about the heat, it's a flaming killer here in the West at the moment. no rain in sight, into our nineteenth dry day today, I managed to get up early this morning and refitted all the brake assembly and adjust the brakes on the Thomson. She's now ready to Rock & Roll once again ;D ;D it sounds like your van should be on the road about the same time we will be passing through your area. We definitely will be dropping in for a coldie and celebrate the Olympics big launch. ;D ;D ;D P.S. send some of that cloud over to the West will Ya. Cheers and beers...kiwijim

Mate if you're over this way look us up and we'll tell each other a few lies over a coldie or two ;D ;D ;D In fact there's one here for you now... Hurry up before it gets hot. Now where's that stubbie..... Arrrrrr yes ..... Sweet mystery of life at laaast I've foound yooooooo Cheers Atog

"Hey" Atog, Now just because I found a bargain 4 x 4 there's no reason to poor water on it.......He He He ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Funny thing about Aust Post, they don't take it kindly, having their parcels being wet when they get them................. They want to wet them themselves, if it's raining so heavily up your way,.........what difference would a little more make That's right, show off all the lovely timber you work with.............knowing darn well I would love to see it in the Thomson. Talking of the Amber Fluid........... my favorite is Emu Draft, raced up the local bottle'o this morning.............. "YES YES YES " they had it on Special.....$ 19.80 for a 30 can block.......stacks up beside the bed nicely. ;D ;D ;D Cheers and Beers kiwijim Hic Hic

atog, hope I'm not intruding on your 'wet-weather-wonderment-with-the-wife' , but it seems to me that you have chosen well, having a fibreglass van in your tropical climate. I presume that plywood/bondwood vans don't stand much of a chance up in your neck of the woods, with it being wet one day and d@mn hot the next. I'm also guessing that you are now planning to attach a snorkel somewhere up high on the wall of the van, so that at least you can still breathe in it when the big tides come! Hope I haven't distracted you... ;D ;D cheers, Al

Hey Al Your right Fibreglass has a better chance of survival up here... Which is puzzling why there isn't more to be found in Nth Qld.... They still leak through the windows if the caulking isn't replaced when it fails.... Common sense and regular maintenance would mean the fibreglass vans should last forever... Human nature being what it is ..... Even the fibreglass vans end out with "issues" The Olympic does have water problems if the windows are left up.. Water runs down the window and down the stays into the van .... Trying to fix that soon.. The rain points out the problems and I try to fix 'em... Found another leak problem today ... The bolts holding the roof hatch on.... Water has found its way through them during torrential downpours.... Job # 120254.... fix leaking roof hatch bolts Just another day in paradise... Liquid sunshine and 96% Humidity Cheers Atog

Hey Bobt Mate if my place is threatened by flooding Cairns has already disappeared under many metres of water... Live half-way up a slope toward the back of Cairns Thanks for the offer though.... Bring it up and we'll go fishing .... If you can get through the floodwaters.. The highway between Cardwell/Innisfail is cut off Hard to believe but "blue skies" this morning How's that possible? Cheers Atog

atog when ya said fish were swimming past your bedroom window, I figured you live in a typical queenslander, therefore the water was deep. My very first fish was caught off the pier in Cairns tis a good thing you have a fibreglass van, a bondy would rot away before you got to finish the resto..

My very first fish was caught off the pier in Cairns tis a good thing you have a fibreglass van, a bondy would rot away before you got to finish the resto.. Hey Bobt Actually I live up the back of Cairns so ..... No chance of ever getting flooded.. it was the humidity I was referring too... Better stop talking about the weather... It upsets some of those living in cooler climates Trying hard not to comment on Bondwood vans.. They are lovely you know ;D Latest update Have left off fixing the left hand side of the entrance for about 14 months now So finally got to it on Saturday Off to the mates place of work and laminate both sides of a piece of 7mm ply. Back to the Olympic and remove the old so the new can be fitted Fibreglass the new in place and brace Leave for a couple of hours Remove the bracing and fibreglass the floor to the new side. Leave for another couple of hours Cut side down to shape Can't reach through the window to unlock the door now.... Security feature? Maybe... Did it as a way of strengthening the wall. Today fixing the seat to the new side and possibly painting the seat/lounge Cheers Atog

Atog, I'm starting to worry that the only way we'll ever get to set foot in your van is if we have the title Lord, Duke, or His Royal Highness, etc in front of our names! Man, you are setting the benchmark too high for us mere plebs! Your van is quickly losing its plain old Olympic tag, and is heading towards being a palace fit for a king! ;D ;D Gotta hand it to ya...you certainly don't muck around when it comes to a quality finish. Could you maybe just have a little saw-cut showing somewhere on the polished timber?...just so we can say, "Yeah, nice job, but look at that saw cut! ...Amateur!!" ;D ;D D@mn fine job, son... cheers, Al.

I concur with Al's comments above. Those detailed timber 'pew ends' could perhaps give away the secret that you are currently constructing the new "holy church of classic vanners" Looking great Atog, keep it up, you'll be sitting on those lounges shortly Cheers Keelz

Thanks for the compliments Guys It keeps me going on a very long job.... Hey Al There are plenty of dents and scratches to find... The photos are selective remember? As for lords and ladies..... inbreds You blokes are more than welcome to pull up a pew ;D and sink a coldie or two in my cathedral of fobbergross Didn't see the pew thing until it was mentioned... ;D ;D ;D Well spotted Keelz All the wood work is because it is fun to do. The challenge of doing something not tried before and seeing a decent result... Not perfect mind you ... but decent The whole idea of this project for me was to learn and enjoy the caravan building experience..... Seems to be working so far ;D ;D ;D ;D It also has the added bonuses of meeting people of similar interests.. and .... end up with a unique van at the end of the build. Quite good things wouldn't you say? ;D ;D ;D ;D Now.... Those photos revealed something else not mentioned on this forum.... Something I put in the van awhile back but never posted.... See if you can spot it... them Cheers Atog
