Hey Gents Thanks Al Really it's just that I have a desire to make stuff - and fibreglass is such a great and flexible medium Learning new techniques and skills is always a buzz for me First it was woodworking and then fibreglassing Put them together and it all starts to work Anyone can do it Just have to have a need to make ...... something For instance The box mould that I made and posted on this thread earlier Was to make ............ THIS Then it was primer filler sprayed and topcoated Had to make a floor for it with ply covered in laminate, a base in timber as well as a door The door was timber framed and the panel was gelcoated fibreglass Where does it go? HERE Added a little seat for the top and can be as a night stand Another project comes to a close Stay tuned More to come Hey Atog, Gidday mate long time no see (me that is ) well mate I reckon that your'e making a cowling for the drawbar of the olympic which I might add is looking terrific as usual. Carl Hey Kiwicarl That is part of the "More to come" bit Well spotted mate Cheers Atog

G'day Atog, "By Gee" you're sure becoming a gun with this fibreglass, I think I can see another business developing here...... "ATOGS OLYMPIC SIZED FAMILY FIBREGLASS FACTORY" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Now tell me.....you said that you fitted a door to the cabinet you made that is fitted between the beds, what is holding the door closed,? I can't see any handle, is there one of those push release catches fitted inside ? I reckon the other half round thingie your making is a gas bottle cover, ;D great work Mate, keep the pic's coming. kiwijim

You Sir are too observant ;D ;D ;D ;D Couldn't find my holesaws and so fitted the cupboard in the van without a lock Have since found them Will be fitting a lock the same as in the overhead cupboards. Mainly because I have two left over Currently on an economy run Using up as much left over bits and pieces as possible That way there is less to store and less mess. And the ball and chain can't complain about all the waste Still have the panelvan to work on More to come Cheers Atog Have since made a box for the holesaws..... Harder to loose one now ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DMarch 2010

Hey Gents and Ladies Posting a reply to questions on another thread Bob Mate I tried using the level rides on the van .... You'll have to take a photo of how it is set up cause I'm not sure I've got it right yet Seemed to work .... but just not convinced I'm using them properly Sadly the panelvan is not quite right either The engine is running real well using premium unleaded now. But lacks the grunt I am looking for while towing a van So possibly will trade it in for a V8 or a landcruiser Wife not happy about the ride and age and ..... etc etc Time and money ...... Until then.... At the moment the old WB does a commendable job Would happily keep it and do her up if I had the extra cash and space... Hey Al Yes there are a few modifications or adjustments going into the Olympic as soon as time and money permit The inexpensive ones will be done within a week or so The expensive ones before I head back to Bowen later this year. That is unless I find appropriate work here in Cairns Cheers Atog

Gidday Everyone Well before going up to Lake Tinaroo on the weekend, the trouble and strife let me know she wasn't happy about the single beds. Originally it was OK but ..... well....... She wanted a double..... So I had no intention of ripping out the two singles What to do ? Easy buy a sheet of 12mm ply - dock it to size - rip it up the middle. This gave me two pieces 1850 x 600 and a left over One on top of each single bed (under the mattresses) until needed. Take them out when needed rearrange the beds and ...... here's the results ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Now we can have double or single beds as needed. All for the price of a sheet of ply Talk about a huge bed, luxury plus ..... It's bigger than the queen size we have at home. Miles of room!!!!!! Because it sits over the single beds and the small cupboard- the bed is 1800 wide and 2 mtrs long. No complaints about having no room to stretch out now ;D ;D Cheers Atouchofluxury

Hi Guys Well the story continues..... While preping the van last year I installed a water filter. Reason being that I wasn't sure of the quality of water that we would encounter while travelling. Well it was definitely used in Bowen. The camp had access to bore water only..... hmmmm ok for washing and showers... ...... .... but.... don't drink the stuff. It is highly mineralised and has a smell and taste. There is also a small amount of algae in the water. So the filter was definitely useful Just changed it today. Little bit late but better than not at all. You will notice at the bottom of the photo that under the bed has been seperated where the water filter and filler are. I knew there would be water spilt when changing filters or if there was a leak. So that section is seperated. So .... What else have I been doing? Well The shake down trip to Bowen also brought to my attention the lack of bench space when cooking. Once the Microwave is on the benchtop there is little room for preparing food while cooking. Sooooo Added this over the past week Bit difficult to get in and out of bed unless....... It can be folded out of the way. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Little more wood work to do before I make a latch to hold it up. Laminated on both sides so it blends in when folded up. Glad I had extra laminate left over. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Nice to do a bit of wood work after all these months. Cheers Atog UPDATEThe addition in action over the Easter weekend 2010 Works a treat ;D ;D

Hi Ya Atog YEp knew this would happen. A real Trip away always results in some improvements planned. Like the folding extension for the bench. Looks puurrfect to me. The double bed solution is a good one too. Get the most out of that caravan too. Next time I hook the van up I shall take a photo of the weight Distribution hitch... bobt

Wow! You've been busy! Looks awesome Love the magnet strip flyscreens! Mine had adhesive velcro and every time you go to open the window the bloody velcro comes away from the new paint job D'oh! How does the magnet strip work? How did you attach it to the wall? that's where I'm having trouble...

Hi ya Ladies and Gents Just a follow up on some of your posts BobtYep ..... had to keep adding to the van. ;D ;D ;D Think I have figured out the tow hitch thingy....... but a photo would confirm it.... thanks Oh ...... hows UAS going? ;D ;D The double bed makes the van look smaller until you are actually on the bed.... Wow... then it just looks fantastic. ;D ;D It feels extra luxurious. Sometimes small additions make big impacts PhilouThanks for the compliments mate The work isn't hard just time consuming. Fortunately I seem to have an abundance of time currently That little bench addition took the best part of two days to make and fit. Hey LisaThe magnetic flyscreensAs you would know magnets don't stick to fibreglass and wood. Sooooo I bought some magnetic strip 12mm wide with an adhesive backing. Stuck one strip onto the window frame and another onto the flyscreen. The flyscreen needs to be measured and sewn up before attaching the magnetic strip. It then needs to be glued on with extra adhesive. In my case I haven't done that yet but will this week. I'll be using Matrix black or Sikaflex through the flyscreen It is also advisable to have a little tab of some type on the bottom edge/corner of the screen. Because it is easier to grab that when trying to lift the screen. The company I bought the magnetic strip off is Fastmag - Northcote VIC ph 03 9482 6733 The website explains it all. Sells the stuff by the 30mtre roll One roll did my needs .... under $50 delivered overnight If you are all pedantic or need more than one roll You may want to buy an "A" and a "B" magnetic strip. Then the strips will align with each other exactly. As I didn't need 60 metres of magnets.... I just used the one ..... Seems to have worked well enough and the offset helps you grab the screen. The stuff sticks like the proverbial but is easy to lift if you have a tab attached. Hope this helps ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Love your work, the vans looking great.
I will have to make custom flyscreens for my van so im still thinking of ways to do that. Yours look great, i would have never thought of doing that but it seem to work well. Do you have any problems with the magnets when you are on the road or do you take them down when traveling?
Keep up the great work.

Hey KB Mate ..... had no problems with the flyscreens except as stated earlier that the magnets stick like the proverbial. So you need to add extra adhesive to keep them stuck to the flyscreen. I use matrix or sikaflex The magnets are quite strong and don't move when traveling. The tops of the flyscreens are held in place with the blinds. That way they stay straight and won't pull out. Hope this helps Cheers Atog

G'day atog, not sure about this one! No flange around the outside for screws to go through for fixing. Being painted now means no fibreglassing to the van. Concealed fixing?? Seems to be about 3ft long (trying to guess the size of the cardboard box it's on.) Too small in width x depth to fully cover a fluorescent light fitting? Unless the light fitting is recessed and this just covers the tube? Too wide for a dunny roll cover. Unless you're installing ten rolls side by side. Large cheese slicer? Potato peeler? No, WAIT!...I goddit!! It's a wind deflector for your towcar!! Am I good...or am I good!?? ;D ;D cheers, Al.

Where's Mike when the guessing game is running? Anyone else? Still time Cause I won't have it finished until next week Cheers Atog

Hey Everyone Here's where that bit of fibreglass goes. As you would know Cairns is a ...... little wet most of the summer and regularly up until May of each year. That causes plenty of opportunities to find out where caravans leak. My trip to Bowen and then the Gold Coast must have opened up a couple of joins in the van windows. Again the rain in Nth Qld found the issues..... The kitchen window has been one of these that regularly caused me ... issues. Resealed it and made an awning to remove the problem all together. Lets hope it works ;D ;D ;D Arrrr the joy of living in the North. Entrance door leak One of the reoccurring issues Olympics have is the door doesn't always fit well. Often there is a rotted out floor at the entrance. This is the van door not fitting properly. Some fit an extra bit of aluminium over the door as an awning. Clever little dicky birds bend the top of the door with weights and fix it there. But my van was already painted and so I came up with this solution instead. The water that does come inside the door goes down both sides and out the bottom. Maybe not ideal but at least it means no extra bits on the outside. Also had to demould the van again as the rain and humidity are ideal for growing forests inside your van. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog
