A 1956 Morris Minor. Cost me $350.00, while I was on $17.00 per week it was a reasonable amount to pay, while giving Mum $5 board.

An early (cant remember year) subaru 'front wheel' drive, ugly ducking, full of rust but just kept going, like this one!

1976 LX Torana hatchback with a 253 and 4 speed manual. Lowered to within 70mm of road, alloy wheels, 9" tyres, sports suspension. I cant find any photos of it, but found this similar one through google. Mine was same colour, with a black bonnet, different wheels and no "SS" badge (only an "SL") Paid about $4500 for it in 1989. Then sold it a few years later to my brother, who turned it into a drag car (400chev and turbo 400 box) and killed it. Geez I'd love to have it now, maybe one day I'll win tatts and buy one with the right badges I still remember Dad not letting me buy (he was guarantor for loan) an A9X hatchback for $6000. They're only worth about $100k now

An early (cant remember year) subaru 'front wheel' drive, ugly ducking, full of rust but just kept going, like this one! My first car was the 4wd (high range only) version of that - a 1976 model. Bloody unkillable, but mine rusted away too - it served me, then my older brother very well for over 10 years. All our family have since had a long history with Subaru's - we've all owned at least 2 and never had a bad one. Mums old Liberty (1992 model they bought new) has only just left he family - it did actually have an issue - with 388,000KM on the clock, it split a liner - I thought it was a head gasket until I pulled the heads off. The car was passed onto a friend who stuck another motor in it and gave it to his son - passed a RWC easily and the engine (a spring chicken with only 200,000 on it) goes great.

When I first got my license my parents let me use their '83 HJ60 Landcruiser. I came home from hospital in it when I was born, learnt to drive in it (in the desert) when I was 10, and then learnt to drive on the road in it later on. The first car I bought with my own money was a 1984 Mitsubishi Scorpion which was in pretty good nick despite having around 360,000km on it when I bought it! Just about everything had been replaced however with receipts for all the work so it wasn't a bad buy. I've got the Landcruiser now, it's tucked away in the shed and has probably had it's last outback adventure now I've bought a new Triton. Not many of them around that aren't rusty/ruined so I'll try and keep it that way. Here it is towing our Franklin: The Scorpion is up on Gumtree at the moment along with the one I bought to pinch parts from to keep it running. New job with a work car and 7 week old baby means that I'm not allowed to have 4 cars of my own any more + a caravan + a car trailer + a box trailer

Don't sell them !!!! The boss women will never let you get anything interesting ever again otherwise She'll demand you get modern nuts like Daepooes/Hi-undies/Kias .... Club rego is pretty restrictive in SA The Landcruiser is safe in the shed, I have 1 or 2 fun things stashed in the workshop at work where she can't see them The caravan is safe, she likes the caravan!

In 1969 I got my first car, a 1963 EJ Holden Ute and still remember the rego number, RBY-600. Got it from a dairy farmer in the Tea Tree Gully area back when there were still farms out there. Not knowing anything about cars then, I failed to notice that the floor pan around the forward left hand side rear spring hanger was just about totally rusted out. Got defected six months later and we parted company, but I had the most fun out of that car than anything else I've owned since. They say you never forget your first one, but that's another story.

My first car wasn't exactly street legal. 1927 Austin 7. I was a bit too young to be embarking on a complete vintage car rebuilt, so as soon as it would go, I was off.
