Although I'm only 28, I've had a fair selection of vehicles. First vehicle I had was my dads old Mitsubishi Express. Even though it was only 10 years old, it had been in over 80 collisions, mostly as a result of being in close proximity to forklifts all the time. It had built in airconditioning courtesy of a forklift opening the side like a can opener with its fork. Even though it had carried near on a ton of gear its whole life the motor was great and the gearbox even better.
First car I had was a 1981 Blue Toyota Cressida. It was a cracker of a car. Was reasonably quick, unbelievably comfortable and an aircon that felt like it was spitting ice at you. Drove it for a couple of years and then gave it to my sister. Upgraded to a white 96 Ford Fairmont. Another nice car and did me well until I decided to go back to uni and had to sell it.
Next car was a red 1981 Holden Jackaroo. I loved the roo. But after 4 engine rebuilds in 18 months (I had a tendency to drown it in holes far too deep) I got sick of borrowing other peoples cars (mostly my dads old 2wd Toyota hilux) around and bought a VN Commodore.
The VN was bought for 250 bucks with 10 months rego, a new radiator, reco gearbox, new tyres, brakes and stereo. After 2 years of abuse I sold it for $1200. While I had the VN I also had a Ford Falcon ute, which was given to me by work as a business car, but after 6 months I packed that job in.
I had a Nissan X trail for a while. Not a bad little car but a bit boxy and I hated the all plastic front end.
I currently drive a Toyota Rav 4, a sensible car but not particularly inspiring, so I have bought a 1978 ZH Ford Fairlane and hope to do it up over the next couple of years and tow the Franklin behind it.
Oh.. and the missus has a Festiva.

My first car was a 1969 series IIA Landrover LWB hardtop, which developed a polished spot on the floor just under the accelerator, Speed wasn't its virtue. I think the car i loved most was a 1972 350SL merc which i got with motor problems, but once fixed was a great little beasty. But my current MGBGT i've had for a long time is right up there. its got a modded cam, twin choke webbers, 2.5 in system, overdrive gearbox, and modified suspension. The worst was a TR7. an orrible lottle animal, i remember coming down Cunninghams gap one night when the lights switched themselves off, that was hairy. the most interesting car was my type 96 SAAB Pic taken at the national SAAB meeting about 4 years ago. but of course i'v always loved my Volkswagens, the last four years is the onlt time in since 1978 that i havn't had at least one of them. What do i lust after, well can't make up my mind between a Hudson Hornet, TR3 or an early 60's 603 Tatra The boss at home says i'm not allowed any more toys untill i've built a new shed, and i'm not allowed to do that until i've done the next four major jobs on the house.

Will have to get around to scanning some photo's for this thread. I learned to drive in my parents 1970 Valiant Pacer. 245 Hemi motor and a 3 on the floor. It flew (in my opinion). My first car was a 1977 Ford Cortina with the 250 cross flow straight 6 in it and hooked to a 4 speed manual box. 160 kph no worries. Not that I would ever consider driving that fast on a public road, lol.

The VG Pacer would have kicked the Cortina,s bum !!
The Pacer would do 100MPH in second if it had the original 8886 gear box.

It did 100 mph, I was game to go to 75 mph in second then up to top. It was still accelerating when I hit 100 and remembered the road was about to go to dirt with a bend in another few hundred metres. Found out the brakes were pretty effective too, lol. The Valiant was also the tow vehicle for our 18 foot Millard that we went on holiday in. Have some great memories of that car and van and lazy holidays during summer. Guess that's why I'm keen to show my kids the same holiday lifestyle.

My first car! Bought for $1000 in 1979, a Peugeot 404 sedan 1971 model. It was the very last one built in Australia, as the 504 was coming off the assembly line in that year. I drove it for 10 years, then "traded up" to a Peugeot 504 Familiale (8-seater wagon). Then in 1999, a 505 GTI (another 8-seater wagon) which is still going strong as a "cargo ship" for my work. My husband's first car was an early 60's FJ Holden, which he started driving in 1964, I think ! (I was only 3 years old so I don't remember!) K

I don't have a photograph of the first car I owned (a 1962 VW Beetle), but I do have a photograph of the first car my father owned, and therefore the first car I travelled in. Here I am in 1963 (age 5) getting into the family 1950 Ford Anglia A494A tourer. Now almost 50 years later, I own an identical vehicle. I don't use it for towing caravans! Cheers, Neil

Hey Atog, let's just say it's a 'semi-professional job'! I'm a photographer as well as a musician as well as a vintage guitar trader. Trouble is, all three of them still don't add up to a reasonable income! Check out Neil Rote Photography / cars

My first car was an 1953 Austin A40 Countyrman The best thing is that we still own it and still registered. Joe and I restored it in 1981 and took it on it's maiden post resto run from Sydney to along the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide. Great shakedown run hey!! We now have lots of Austins ranging from 1949 - 1966 . like caravans when you enjoy something keep doing it ;D ;D ;D The worst car we owned was a 1981 Datsun Bluebird. It gave us loads of problems once unleaded petrol was introduced. not really the car's fault. We also love the Fords we have owned. 68 Cortina ;)was a great car. Mausie (& Joe)

Oh! By the way Joe's car when I met him was a Triumph Herald. I thought it was cute. The only problem was Joe had to go around the car every week and tighten the bolts or it would start falling apart Besides that we had some great times in the little Triumph ;-) Mausie

My first car was a 73 VJ Valiant Charger, 265 auto. What a fun car, although the rear tyres never seemed to last to long and it had this horrible screeching sound that used to come from the back of the car when taking off from traffic lights etc. ;D
Cheers Gav.
