Inside is pretty much complete now, just need to paint outside, add the annex rail, attach the spare wheel carrier..... Fridge is fastened down but still removable so can be taken out and used in the car if wanted, I've just used ladder straps from Bunnings, rated to 150kg so should be good for this Drawer lock added. The lock bolt is tethered so shouldn't go missing in a hurry And I have water! The Camec chrome hand pump works really well And I really love the little swivel drain on this sink (ebay $58 look up mini rv stainless sink), I used a nylex drain hose coupling and $10 grey water hose from Bunnings to connect it to under the van, from there it will drain into a bucket or jerry can, no grey water tank fixed underneath.

Thanks Bobt, I get my enjoyment out of the rebuild Playing in the front yard will be as good as it gets for us, she'll go on the market soon so I can get onto rebuilding the little Franklin.

So yesterday was supposed to be a big day, weighbridge, roadworthy and registration day. We allowed a full day as town (Maryborough) is about a 90km round trip for us. We got two thirds done, Tare was 700kg and roadworthy passed no problems. Tare included the fridge and spare wheel. Qld transport was the final hurdle that we failed to jump. Because of the new drawbar and rebuilt chassis, it is now classed as a brand new caravan and has to have a compliance plate and Vin stamped into it. Although a bit gutted, I'm just going to look at it as a piece of bureaucratic paper, she's still a classic van and not a modern day butter box. What gets me is that I don't need an engineer's certificate, just a 17 digit number stamped and a plate riveted onto the drawbar and everything is A-ok. As Geoff is a qualified boilermaker, I daresay a certificate would not be a problem but glad we don't have to jump through that hoop too. Next week my little 10ft 1972 York will have a plate with Manufactured by Regan, built July/2020 on it. I have to do all that then go back and get it re-inspected to prove that I stamped and riveted then hopefully she'll be registered. They can't choose my model name so she'll be York 72. On the up side, hubby was very happy with how she towed, very stable on the road. And I stocked up the little fridge with 4 x 3lt bottles of water to see how the fridge drawer traveled with weight, all good there, I'm happy to report (took the water out before weigh-in though). The sliding doors under the bed will need something to keep them closed and the back cushions on the dinette fell over but didn't slide off. I also noticed the bottom of the door wobbled a bit while we were driving on the highway, I was worried that if the wind got under it too much, it could cause some damage so I'll add a second cabin hook or similar to use while in motion.

The return trip to Qld Transport was easier and she is now officially registered and ready to hit the road. Instead of bringing her all the way home from Maryborough and then taking her into town again, we left her at a friend's place over the weekend. That way, Geoff didn't have to hook her up on his own and meet me at Qld transport after I finished work. It was pretty much her first time out from under her carport and there was a lot of rain over the weekend and even a bit of a thunderstorm with lots of sheet rain and wind. I'm happy to say she was still bone dry and reminded me that I have a bit of house work to do with the dust on window sills and under the bed etc. Oh, and she made her way into another article - " RV Daily - which caravan awning is right for you" Scroll down to old school and retro

Yes, had the same issue when I registered the Franklin here in Vic some years ago - but Vicroads issued me the new number on the spot, then lent me a set of number punches and a hammer they keep at the rego office for just this purpose to fix it straight away so no second trip was required.

You were lucky Snoops, we were lucky to get a smile out of the staff at our local dept At least it's all done now and she's on the market. Just need a buyer now.
