That's the sort of work that sorts the men out from the boys.

Wow this is like looking at the twin of one of the vans I'm working on.
I'll watch with interest, keep slugging away and you'll do Great

It's been a while - unfortunately life gets in the way of projects like this at times. I've cleaned up the axles and springs and they've all come up pretty good so I was just going to re-use them. Interestingly - I have 45mm square overlay axles, however the bearings that were fitted were LM bearings. My understanding is that 45mm square axles would suit SL bearings with a higher weight rating. Should I assume that someone in the past has used the wrong bearings? Or should I be buying new axles or stubs to make sure I have the correct bearing. I suspect that the LM bearings won't be sufficient for the weight of this van once its finished. Thoughts?

Out tow weight would be around 1250KG . We have run LM bearings (Japanese) with 14" LT tyres, constantly checking temperatures for 4000km with no problems. I'm actually surprised how cool they have run here in Qld. EDIT: 4000km not 400.

Yes, if the van was a bit smaller I'd just replace the existing bearings - however I gather it's going to end up weighing about 1500kg plus, which would be at or above the limit for that bearing type. I think I'll put new stubs on the axles with either SL or parallel bearings.

A few photos of what's been keeping me occupied - sorry for lack of posts, I can't seem to post photos when using my phone so it can be a little hard to get around to loading any photos. My kids have named the caravan "Beauty" and the tow vehicle - 'The Beast'. Not overly original but it works I think. The inside is still completely gutted so I've got a little bit of work still to do.

I like the lower look of the "new" van, do you have shots of the inside yet?
