From our sister site:h owdy all
well, it seems that photobucket has done what we've all been dreading for the past few years.
they have removed the facility of linking your photos to an external source, like posting into a forum, unless you pay a membership fee.
i had a look at their website and it seems that the cheapest way to be able to post photos is by paying a $400 per year fee. i'm not happy about that at the moment, so for the next little while, all my photos (and others may feel the same way) will be replaced by an advisory from photobucket. i don't really hate anything but i think i might hate bastards like that.
geoff 'n jude
ps - i noticed that murray has the same problem, does anybody else?
later today, yes - koala, cardygeorge, aussieute and counting.......
pps - i've just spent a bit of time on the net looking at other peoples responses and it seems that bloggers and forums across the world have many members (but not all) who are suffering the same problem.
photobucket started changing accounts around 12th june and seem to be moving through account holders and subjecting them to the new terms of service randomly.
if it hasn't happened to you yet, it probably will fairly soon. it would be interesting to know how many of us have free photobucket accounts and haven't got the message yet.

These changes have now got more than serious. Several VV members have lost their images, over the past few hours.
1st Imageshack now photobucket, will Flickr be next?
Forums all over the world are loosing precious historical images.

The message or how to use Facebook. Facebook:- 1. Create a Private Album in Facebook. 2. Open the image in Facebook. 3. Right Button the Image. 4. Select "Copy Image Address" 5. Paste into Forum Image Dialog Box. How about these: Rattles

A private Album contains image links that will only be able to be accessed via that accounts friends list, unless the account facebook is further restricted via privacy settings to family & tick box friends. Many Mums set up facebook this way with school age kids. I suggest create an album in the classic fb thing locky set up, then those who are members can access that link no problem & it then solves the privacy issues to however your facebook is open or clamped down. Just remember if it makes you upload in an album on your own facebook & not in the group check public, so members in the group who are not personal fb friends can also access it, outsiders of the fb club not via the club link.
Note: A bonus of the image share sites posting thumbs was not only fast pages on forum pages but also a revenue stream for that host, those sites that have closed down are due to new copywrite laws. Photobucket was not earning revenue with fixed linked images that drained many of us mobile bandwidth challenged types, having to pay full price to see the same images each visit to a page. I can understand why they wish to charge for the thousands of gigabytes of folks who upload full size mega pixel shots in uncompressed formats. I will never forget a look at a few threads here and in VV to see i had chewed up 23MB, (About a 5 minute DVD quality movie! )

Sad to see that all of our efforts to compile some history on Vintage and Classic Caravans could be taken away. Having been a member for about 8 years on this site and 10 years on Vintage Caravans and posted many photos of events and outings could be lost unless I pay a kings ransom to PB is blackmail. NOT HAPPY Wonder if its worth PDFing the historical threads? I have just printed out all of my pages of my Viscount and 4wd (on another forum).

Imagebam has decided to continue, free, for a while. Guess all the demand has bumped up banner ad revenue for them.

The reality is news & affliates will get more revenue from that syndicated article than the frog not your image site, will enjoy as most have moved onto the 3 new remote hosts that popped up last month, resulting in Imageshack also reviewing their descision.

I've deleted all of my pics from Photobucket and closed my account. I still have all the pics, but neither the time nor inclination to reload them elsewhere and re link them.
Hopefully Photobucket will go broke as an example of what piss poor management will do for a company.
I also don't trust any other image hosting site from doing the same thing later on, so I like many others at the moment are stuck for a solution going forwards. I am looking at hosting them myself - looks like I can do this cheaper (but not free) than most of the image hosting sites paid account setups.
Will report back if I mange to sort anything.
Oh, and Facebook isn't an option for all - I don't have an account and I'm not about to change that.

Is there an easy way to remove all your pics from photobucket? I have 100s in there over about 15 years. So while I probably still have all the pictures somewhere, (on old CDs, USBs etc) it would be nice knowing I can put them all on one media.

If you havn't collated them to albums? perhaps just perform one download. I downloaded one album at a time, they send you an email & you have 24hours to clear the download, safe then.

We are not the only ones impacted. Spotted this on news.com.au Held to RansomNever thought of the poor souls with ebay/amazon pics. Ebay have also turned off active content this month, to suit the mobile phone market, so its been a troublesome month. Thankfully we have used Auctiva a reasonable pay for site for our ebay business.

G'day All, I've just been onto Photobucket and tried to rip all my photos off there, I did manage to download about half of them before all the folders were covered by adverts, it didn't matter how many times I cleared the ad's off the screen, another ad would appear and stop me from removing any more, "what a way to hold someone to ransom" Boy they are going to get an earful form me shortly. !!!!

Back in the early 2000s photobucket was a problem as on any site with viewers would very quickly outstrip the free bandwidth allocation, leaving a frog cartoon... sometimes the same day!, i thought they would be extinct by 2005, but a new breed discovered the internet and started posting on boards & gave another decade of life to it. It will be interesting to see if they are still around in 2027.

I'm going to reload my images to the Vincent thread, how do I delete the PB image? I guess I start a new thread, copy & paste the text & add new images from Flickr, when done delete the entire old thread?
