Ambassador's were produced prior to '71 ours is a documented 8/68 build in Sydney I would reply direct to vv but because of someone's tantrum fit there I can not even see the vv fora let alone post

Oh no John, sounds a bit like some facebook groups I believe the first Ambassadors came out in 1964 Also no mention of the Duralvans (from 1965-1971 I think)

Hey Millard, After reading most of your post i got heaps of information on a Van i've just bought today. I had no idea what it was until i saw VISCOUNT painted over then i got the partial chassis number R4727x Some bright spark has welded a jocky wheel mount over the last number so in the next few days ill have to grind it off and hopefully reveal the last number. The interrior has been completely gutted but that's ok as i will be doing a complete custom interior. It is a tandem however its what i know of as a fixed Tandem meaning no leaf springs or suspension of any kind As i said after reading your posts and comparing pictures i'm thinking its a 1974 Viscount Royal. If you agree could you point me in the right direction of some pics of one in good condition just for curiosity sake. i'll start a thread of my own with the rebuild if you want to check it out too. This will be the second van i've rebuilt so the new motto is "Here We Go Again" Cheers Marty

Hi Marty, you are correct, you have a 1974 Royal. Congrats on your purchase. If you hold a mirror in the cupboard over your kitchen, you may find written the last four numbers of your chassis number. If you have a search through this forum, there are a few 1974 Viscounts to check out. Or google images for 1974 Viscount Royal. Looking forward to seeing your reno thread, I am currently renovating a 1973 Viscount Ambassador having already completed a full reno on a 1987 Viscount GT Classic Cheers Shelley Edit: I wonder if you have the duratorque suspension as that was used on quite a few of the Viscounts in 1974.

My Ambassador no is E2340, dated 1966. I also found the no. engraved in the side of the bunk bed under layers of paint, so perhaps look there as well.

Hi Tasmillard, did you find a date in yours saying 1966? Just wondering as there's been a few dates collected around then and I would've put yours at 1967. E1631 found a date of 23/2/67 under the table (on this page - vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/10165/ambassador-viscount-chassis-numbers ) and E1975 found 20/6/67 under their table, they posted that in the Viscount facebook group.
