Good work. Shouldn't be hard to keep it under 1,300Kg. Mine weighs just over that with 2 full gas bottles and a full tank of water plus everything else we go camping with.

Mines at around 140Kg on the ball. Works well with all the vehicles I tow with apart from the X trail which sits a bit low with that weight on it. The 101, L322, Captiva and Navara I've towed it with are all fine.

Hi, I just watched the axle replacement vid. I'm contemplating replacing my axle too. Did you go with a local manufacturer instead of Huntsman? It looks like your axle is shs with stubs welded in each end. Is this rated? The Huntsman axles are solid, so I assume much stronger than shs. It also looks like you didn't weld your axle pads to the axles?

It also looks like you didn't weld your axle pads to the axles? I went to an independent trailer manufacturer and made a considerable saving here in Hobart. The new axle is solid with an RHS sleeve over it and have the Holden stubs. The weight capacity of the 13" light truck tyres are of 680 kg each so there is no purpose in going to a bigger axle. If you planning to have more weight in your van than 1400 kg I recommend you go for 14" tyres and the axle/brake system to suit. I have 3 new tyres so for that reason I stay with the Hoden stubs and not invested in the Ford ones.

Thanks mate, legally the Magna cannot have that weight on the ball I have to find the balance to bring it back to 90 kg or sale the van and get a 14 foot pop top one. Not very kin in doing that after all the work done in this one.

So is the whole axle is solid, or are they stubs welded in shs? It seems a bit odd they would sleeve a solid axle with shs.

Yes, the stubs are welded in a solid 40mm axle with a sleeve to bring it capacity from 1000 kg to 1600 kg that it is the capacity of a 45mm solid axle with Ford stubs and brakes.

Franklin floor vinyl is in! Love these great vids, such a handy way to share & thanks. Did you seal the floor with anything, or was it already coated, prior to laying the cut floor mat?

I am progressing slowly but steady. I finished making the cabinet doors made with 1/2" marine plywood and coated with 3 coats of clear. Few are installed and only the top cabinet are left to be done. The front and back of the body are painted with 1 coat of undercoat White Knight Rust Guard quick dry true bite and 3 coats of Solargard Manhattan white. The rood is also done with 1 undercoat and 2 coats of Solargard Today I one of the side have the undercoat plus one coat of Solargard. If the weather help tomorrow I will apply another coat. The natural light does not do justice to the nice white.

I would like to put an aluminium checker plate on the lower part of the front of the van to conceal the damaged panel and wonder if 1.6 mm thick will be Ok or I have to go to 2 mm.

I've got a couple of areas myself that need doing, but I'm nowhere near getting to paint yet.

Well, the restoration is slow but steady. The interior it is nearly finished and outside only one side need to be painted. The hand water tap/pump need to be installed and sink secured. We removed the top bunks and set up the van with 2 single beds. The bunks are in storage just in case that we need them in the future. We are looking forward to go camping very soon. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hIFLp-by-Q

Slow? Really? You're flying compared to me! Great work mate. Thanks mate, is a bit of struggle, every time that I use a screwdriver (twisting the wrist) is an agony or not enough strength. Tomorrow I start doing the door side of the van I will need to remove one trillion of pop rivets and the two vertical rails so I can start preparing the surface for painting.

Today I painted the side strip on the caravan sides. Orange sigwritters acrylic gloss paint was used to match the original interior decor.

Looks fantastic. Did you brush, or spray ? Brush, so far 4 coats of Solargard Manhattan Snow and 2 coats of orange. I will give one extra coat of orange and perhaps a thin strip further up on the sides.

Which kind of masking tape are you using? I am using a signwritters masking tape and it is awesome.
