The electric axle on their site is 420. I recently replaced my vans axle as it was undersize, bent and chewing tyres out on the highway. I purchased locally a complete electric kit including tow coupling, axle, brakes, park brake cable, U bolts, etc for 500 and did away with the old mechanical brakes. Allow 150 for a premium controller and thats it. Never looked back.

That's identical to mine, but I wanted hydraulic brakes as I tow the van with many different vehicles. If you are only going to use one car, go for electric brakes - they are the way to go.

The hydraulic assembly in their site is $460.00 plus 96.70 for freight. I cannot see the electric axle for $420.00

You could have had mine. 1974 Franklin with 45mm solid square axle, 9" hydraulic drum brakes, 6 leaf slipper springs, & U bolts which were all working before I took them out. I had to go bigger -- 50mm axle, 8 leaf springs, 10" electric brakes to cope with the extra weight.
Too bad you live so far.

For me there is not much purpose to upgrade to 45mm solid square and Ford axle & bearings when the 13" light truck tyres have only a capacity of 680kg each. The LM bearings and hollow pipe axle in the Franklin lasted 38 years so I hope that the new assembly will last me 15 years. By that time (if I am in this world) I will be 85

I got the complete axle assembly ready to put in the van for $420.00. I think that it is a very good deal for Tasmania. Also got the marine ply 12mm 2400x1200 for $82 a sheet. It will be for the cabinet doors.

My van had 14" HT rims on it, i just put 6 stud Sunraiser which take 890kg ea. The 14" LT tyres take 850 kg ea. I did have to go to 50mm solid square axle with Landcruiser bearings. Anyway it will be great to see these old Franklins on the road in another 40 yrs. Ted

Today, again with the help of tasmillard we have done quite a bit of work. 1) fitted the axle 2) removed the stove cleaned it and the space where it go. 3) removed the fridge, cleaned it and also cleaned and painted the space where it go. 4) got a new door seal made for $40 Tomorrow I will try to paint the fridge door and make the template to cut the new vinyl. Got it for $143. We will try to get material for the curtains during the week so we can have the van ready for January.

It is not a hard job, just need patience and not rush. Today I repaired the seats/box in the dinette are that have some water damage caused for water coming from the seams in the roof (repaired now) Tomorrow the beds will go in and also the dinette cushions. I have to finish the pantry as well. Another job that is done was installing a new mixer in the sink, new plumbing and also new LPG line for the fridge. Thanks again to tasmillard for his great help and support.

Looks great! I LOVE the stove colour! - mine is an identical unit but a mustard yellow colour. They work brilliantly as well by the way - ours looked like it had hardly ever been used, but it gets a workout now - including the oven, which works surprisingly well.

Looks like all the Arrows used the same stove - I've seen it in a pale green too, so that's at least 4 colours they did it in.

Just watched the video on the new axle and at the end it was mentioned that the water tank will be removed - what's the go with that? Is it split, not big enough or other? I use mine and easily get 4 days out of a tankful, but I'm not sure how big it is - I'm guessing around 60 litres.

Firstly it will be removed to inspect, however, we are thinking the best way to go for the short term at least is to use two 20ltr containers, place these on the outside of the van and use an electric pump. Of course, dont need them when at a caravan park. This means we can use one container until empty, swap it to the other and go out and refill the first. Never need to move the van to get the tanks filled, so its better management.

Yeah, fair enough. I never go to Caravan parks, so didn't think of that...

I will need to replace mine at some stage, as it has a huuuge split along it. I'm gonna leave that till last as we never use it on our old Jayco camper (tasted too bad). We use 2 x 20L containers.

I never liked have to move for a camp site to go an refill the tanks. I prefer having 100 lts of water in 20 lts containers. With the van it is more easy, just leave the van on site and get the water using the towing vehicle. The tank on the Arrow is so dirty that will take quite few liters of bleach to do the preliminary clean up.

SWMBO scoured gumtree and fleabay, now we have 2 (a mustard one fitted and a spare white one in the shed) both were virtually unused.

When connected to mains water we still drink from the tank, lasts for weeks. When camping it's a bit small, only get 3-4 days. Dad guilted me into cleaning the tank with some "special" van tank cleaning product last year. Don't know if it did anything positive, but it didn't effect taste.

Today we removed the water tank and the 9kg gas bottle holder from the drawbar.
We took the van to the weight bridge and it is 880 kg unhitched and 760 kg hitched giving a ballweight og 120 kg
by the time that I store the annex under the beds and perhaps the spare tyre perhaps I will be able to bring the weight on the towbar to 90kg thet it is the maximum allowed.
Have to keep the rig legal for insurance purposes.
I am aiming to have a total weight of the van of less than 1300 kg.
Next job in in the list is the splash behind the sink and making new cabinet doors.
