Today is our anniversary 42 years, it is also the first anniversary of our Nautilus. So off to the rego we go to transfer from Cockroach rego to Canetoad rego. Computer "says no"!!! its not a camper, its not a caravan, its not a pop top, (clerk is somewhat vexed by now) it cant be a van? as a van has an engine, he cannot proceed past this point!!!! steam is coming from his shirt collar....I suggest its a camper trailer... "Oh what good would that do?" ...why not try it? Oh the computer "said yes"!!!! After much tooing & frowing, me wanting to use her personal plate, copying of receipts etc., we have a total of 16 x A4 pages, old mate behind the counter has a laugh & wishes me a good time. Another lost day I could have been working on Vincent lucky I wasn't trying to re-register "Vincent"

Another lost day I could have been working on Vincent lucky I wasn't trying to re-register "Vincent" Well Happy Anniversary, it is good you remember, my wife and I always forget ours
When I moved here many, many moons ago. You use to pay more on your licence depending on what you could drive and I had a car/bike(250cc) and light rigid. I never ever drove a truck but my old man made me get it, so when I changed my licences over I told them I want to keep the car and bike but drop the light rigid. Long story short I get pulled up by the boys in blue about 10 years back while riding my bike and guess who's licence didn't show the class for a bike(250cc)?? Anyway I didn't get a ticket but went to transport dept and yes they found I use to have car/bike and truck and I cancel truck and bike...!!! To bad so sad nothing we can do about it now other then give you a learners permit..... I sold my bike 3 months later!

We have such a small population by world standards! Why couldn't we be Australia wide for simple things like registration. Brent moves from one state to another it would be a simple matter of replacing the address??? Ahhhh to simple!!!!!!!!

mustang.. no way on the one standard for all things rego... Have you seen the price of rego for a trailer in NSW.. then compare it with Victoria... I would go bust if I had to pay the NSW rate..

Vic are rather strict about supporting documentation for rego etc, i looked into it when thinking about something with almost 12months Vic rego left, maybe a solution is to have the cousin fake ownership... until he ebays it accidentally

Have to agree with you Mustang ...the difference between states registration charges are crazy (after all a caravan is just a trailer ) . Regular caravan registration fee is $54 pa. Wow that's not bad Bobt ....12 months rego in SA is $75 this year !!!! ,might have to move to East Mexico mate... next summer Maybe wildgoose is on to something here but only in the summer time Cheers Andy

My non caraven boat trailer has gone up from $56 to $63 for twelve months, in NSW. I have noticed a few homemade caravans that have evolved from and still registered as a small trailer to avoid the extra couple of hundred for rego & yearly roadworthy fee. This morning was 2c in the highlands Nor West of Sydney, inside my Franklin a balmy 12c, i may have to move to warmer Mexico climes, haha

At least if anyone goes to a road registration office anywhere around Oz they will enjoy some temperature controlled relief, electricity costs tacked onto your registration fees! LoLz

Have just made an appointment to get vintage caravan registered in Tassie. Have been told that electrical compliance is no longer checked. It seems Tasmania was the only state doing this. What do the other states do ? nothing ? cheers Murray

Think I answered something like this in VV. When we changed our rego on both vans this year, neither was inspected electrically. (Qld)
Considering the oldie had no safety switch or smoke alarm!!!

Went to a garage sale while walking the dog on Sat am, bought a smoke alarm very clean for $1.00. Owner says there were 11 smoke alarms in the house when they bought it? ?

Old thread but new information. Registration FeesWould this be fairer or another form of revenue raising? Also, my thought is road rules and regulations should be national not state based, we all live on the one big block of dirt plus the islands.

I would want to see more detail. This sort of thing has been proposed before but it put Rural Australia at a huge disadvantage if the system charges by km.
City folk will save, county folk get screwed. Nothing new there...

Well, that shows my lack of insight. Thought about this for a while and thought it would be a great way to go. No, country folk travel big distances just getting around, so to speak. That certainly puts a different spin on it, thank you.
