we are on a user pays program now. its called taxes on the fuel we use.. state and federal each get a bite of it. registration fees are not equitable between the states for trailers/caravans, never looked at the motor vehicle fees to see how they compare. I would not like to guess which way all the trailer regos would go if it was to become a national based fee.. rules (laws).. yep there are state and federal/national laws. It is usually the state authorities that enforce both. poor motorist (us)is never going to win.... perhaps we should all buy push bikes

Only way to do it is to have a scheme where country owners get more km/$ or unlimited km's for a fixed price.
Watch how many cars are registered in country areas then....
In the UK "Mini Cabs" were exempt from congestion charges, and all of a sudden there were loads more cars registered as mini cabs, but never picked up passengers.

Old thread but new information. Registration FeesWould this be fairer or another form of revenue raising? Also, my thought is road rules and regulations should be national not state based, we all live on the one big block of dirt plus the islands. Gday Crowbar Interesting concept however I would also like to see much more detail on the regional verses urban kilometre rates {ie where I am most of the roads aren't much better than goat tracks.....do I pay the same as someone that travels on a 4 lane motorway } In my opinion its probably better the devil you know than the one that you don't !! Cheers Andy

Move to NSW club rego is $49 a year and you can have a log book 60 days of private use on top of recognised club events We find we do not use the 60 days but now with the VV outings we might , what we need now is for a club associated recognised VV event's calendar

All of my cars are on 45days permit. The intension is to drive them lots. I tell you though, the last 2months, I haven't even wanted to back them out of the shed. The weather is awful. Sure I'd drive any of them if I needed to (ie: was stuck without the daily driver) but why the hell park them at work all day in the pouring rain for no reason Heater demisting and wipers are hilariously (bad) in old cars too It's all fun right ? this is what I've been playing with every chance I get over winter. It's my fathers car, it's been sitting for at least 20years with gearbox issues. I've got that sucker in about 1million bits at the moment. Hopefully I'll have it back together by the end of winter. So they raise 40billion a year, yet savehousholds $3,000 a year. What does the revenue appear by magic out of thin air ? What a steaming pile of merde we are being fed. seeya, Shane L.

How do you find driving on the wrong side of the road. I've driven a friends Citroen SM that was left hand drive ( he purchased it from the heinz family in the USA a few year back when the car collection was sold off). What a beast, it had lived in a musuem it's whole life... it even smelt new. It sure was fun to try and start up again after it was turned off in my drive after some heat soak got into it. The 3 twin choke weber carbies must have flooded the motor. Those quad cam maseraties sure do sound nice sucking through all those carbies though! It was very strange driving on the wrong side of the road, changing gears with the door handle ( LOL ).

Auto is not as bad as a manual but gets to be a pain in the @#$e I found when we had a LHD unit so sold after 3 months also the "arrival" factor had worn off by then Towing is going to be pretty tricky reckon I towed a 9x5 box trailer with my '65 ONCE never did it again

I personally don't find it as bad as the passenger, the bonnet has lines that you can judge how far you are driving from the center line.
You could play tennis on the bonnet, I'm not the tallest guy out there!!!
Lane changes require a head check the door mirrors are tiny.
Turn left anytime needs care, with the large dead area in the back quarters.
Reverse parks are a cinch, I haven't towed yet.
The only problem I have is getting back in the Prado after a few outings in the LHD. For the value of the car I would never change to RHD.

gee's don't convert it .... I consider the "oddities" of different cars half the appeal. Even if they drive you bloody insane I enjoy a show called Dream Car Garage, i was impressed at how the fix up the old muscle cars brakes & suspension. Something that also may apply down the track regarding mostly interiors ( if neglect did not destroy things) is the attitude of modifications for owners. " You can change anything as long as it undoes and the original gear bolts back!" Many AC Cora & Stingrays with custom modern seating & finishes etc, to look the part to the shiney brigade. On another note was a serious time warp breach on the series final of Love Child. A lovely Volvo P1800 but with fine radiating section mags and not wire wheels!! #fail

We pay SIX lots of full rego, hopefully after my birthday last week I will now get a discount??? You need to shift to Victoria $55 a year caravan/trailer registration (any trailer smaller than about 6foot x 4foot is free ... you stick the cars rego number on it). $70'ish a year for club permits that allow you to drive 45 days a year ( which is plenty when you have a few vehicles) and full rego is about $650'ish a year. You have reminded me, I still haven't got that car pictured back together. It's still in the shed in a million bits...... Oneday ..... seeya, Shane L.
