Progress is slow ..... but I did get more done on Kitchen cupboards. I managed to get the fridge connected & working on Gas, 240v mains & 240v using inverter connected to 130ah battery. Got the Stove connected and working (lack of use had caused the jets to block-up) 048a
The Air-con connected & working but the Inverter can only handle down to 22deg. (might have to connect big bertha) 048b

Yep --- Just about ready (enough) to take it out for a try-out on 2nd Jan. Today I got the front & back window shields on & working (still have to paint them). 051a 051b also got the rear bumper on -- that too needs work done to re-locate the spare wheel, a pole carrier & a paint job --- but it can all wait till I get back.

But not all is lost --- I'll be taking my tools to tinker as I cant stop tinkering (or pondering changes) for long.

Well I've just worked out how to power the Inverter while engine is running and when the van is disconnected from the TUG....
Firstly the TUG has a second battery isolator - which disconnects the van battery when motor is off. So ..... When motor is running power flows which allows power to the inverter and to the other relay connecting the van's battery. When motor stops disconnecting power to the relay to van battery & power to inverter (fridge draws 12.5amps on 12v).
Secondly when camping manually switch power to fridge if not using gas.

In the long run that may wpork out well and what better way to ponder and fine tune than on the spot with most of the trusty tool kit to help! Happy New Year

Finally made it down to Goulburn - few hassels with the X-trail (Its been very reliable till now). Engine light came on near Moss Vale and motor stalled. Had it serviced about 3 months ago (not by Nissan for the first time). Anyway I called NRMA (2 hr wait so made a cuppa). When he finally turned up he hooked up a fault meter & it came up "no fault detected" and motor started first shot & engine light didnt come on. So I hit the road again and the engine light cam back on so I headed to a mates place near Goulburn and we drowned my sorrows in a few beers. At Pete's place 052b After connecting the hot water system & chimney Pete calls it "the mobile meth-lab" It was great to finally use the van and use the shower for the first time .

This post is always a great read. Must be such a satisfying moment when you put the kettle on for the first time/grab a cold one out of the fridge and just sit back and admire. Loving the fact you made good use of time while waiting for the NRMA to arrive. You would have somewhere comfortable to sit and wait (sleep) too! Hope the xtrail is all sorted.

Yep ... very satisfying although I had to wait till I setup camp before I downed the stubbies of "old" but the coffee and camp chairs came out. No-one in Goulburn wanted to look at the x-trail so, after day 5, I took the risk of bringing the "EGG" home. The x-trail stalled only once and didn't want to start but once it started it purred home. I kept under 80 going up hills and it cruised easily at 100 on the flats. Friday I took it to Nissen and they said it was a faulty engine sensor but the motor has two so I changed both @ $140.00ea + $140.00 for the dyno test. Anyway all sorted out - it starts & runs well. Saturday & Sunday I Fixed some of the old fly screens as I hate mozzies, then I had to paint them as two were brown 5 were silver 1 had one with a brown, white, silver & grey frame - now they are all white & they look great. When I finish them next weekend Ill start on fibreglassing another roof hatch.

Well Today I got some very bad news. I emptied the van and took it over a weigh bridge - just left what was bolted down. The old Tare weight was 890kg - New tare weight is 1370kg with ball weight of 170kg - that means that I've added 480kgto the van. Well I glued the new ply over the old ply so I've added 84kg just to the walls & roof. The portable air-con should weigh about 60 - 70kg. New, extra, cupboards should weigh 20kg. Battery, electrics, new wheels, rear bumper bar, Plumbing & Shower cubicle must have added about 300kg.
So this means I have to lighten it down a bit. I think the first to go will be portable air-con. I will have to get new springs (9 leaf), axle (50mm) and may as well get electric brakes 'cause I still have to add the solar panels (47kg) and roll-out awning.
Never ending story. Ted

Wow that's a fair bit of weight, so will you look to get a new tare limit on the van ? I cannot see you getting it back to the 890kgs ever again. By going to bigger springs and axles you adding more weight again...
Will be looking extra hard now at any mod's with our van..
cheers
