Peter Hi. Sorry but I've got everything disconnected, at present, as I've been trying to paint the outside for the past month and getting no help from the rain. Its funny how the rain stops when I'm working for my boss but starts every weekend.
I'll post some photos when I start putting it all back. Because of the rain I pulled everything out of the van and laid some new lino down, so when it settles I'll put everything back in.

Hi Ted, I recently purchased little 12ft Franklin Regent (I believe that is 1969 model) and planning to start the restoration this weekend . The current plan is to dismantle the whole caravan as you did, so I can fix up rotted areas and also renew internal plywood linings. I would really appreciate any advice on the works! Is there any tricky spots or something that I should be aware of? Many thanks! Zack

If you start a new Thread then you can have everything regarding your van in the one place and I'll bookmark it and reply to your questions there. Ted

Firstly I'm going to renew the rego with the old weight. Due on 26th Sept.
When I have finished the van I'll take it over the weigh bridge - but just for my curiosity on how much I've increased the weight.
I havn't made the cupboard doors yet - the old ones were made of particle board. To reduce some of the weight I'm thinking of 6mm ply with a picture frame to slow down any warping - I need 23 doors, including the wardrobe doors.
I got the outside second coat finished last weekend (not going to put the stripes till later).
Mick is giving me a hand next weekend to seal all the windows. I'm putting heaps of Sikaflex especially in the corners of the angle around the windows. I am only going to JUST pinch the screws till the sikaflex goes off then tighten them another turn so that there is at least a 2mm cushion between the window and the wall.
I hope this helps Ted

Good lookin pain job Ted, Ref the pics you asked for - my tow car goes in for some work on an overheating problem early next week so once I get it back I will hitch up the Van and take it for a run which means I will be able to get to the back of the Van easily to take pics and to make adjustments of the spare wheels. So hopefully I will post them late next week. Cheers, Des Below is a pic of my latest addition to the Van - you can see my access problem while parked up at home:

G'day Ted,
I noticed you have the same white plastic window clips as I do. I reckon they are crap-a-dill-io or just old and passed their use by date. Some of mine have broken off.
I have often thought about changing them to another window locking system but I not sure what. Handles would be good and I have tried some without success.
Do you have any plans to change yours??
Cheers, Des
PS I've looked at replacing the windows with new wind-out windows but they are expensive

I've sikaflexed mine in now so they are staying. When you looked into replacing yours - were they going to be the same shape as the old ones? Ted

Paint work looks great Ted. What did you use to apply the paint? Looks nice and flat. I was going to spray but as the windy season started I decided to use a roller. It looks OK till you get to a meter away. Actually the primer looked better than the finish top coat.

Hey Ted,
Yes - the new windows would be the same shape and size as the original but the price is relevant to the fact that they are custom made.
Cheers, Des

Well I finally got back into my van this weekend and last weekend and got the shower cabinet and wardrobe finished. I took out the new lino as I couldn't get the ripples out - I thought that the hot days would flatten them out but even with 45deg temp in the van, the ripples remained. I think I'll try tiles next. Shower & wardrobe work looks fab Ted! The hot days are great to flatten out sheets of plastics like lino, before they get laid,or if the lino is floating just add weights for a week or so on the high spots. If glued down then what you see is always what you get as the thickness means it will always stay high & low as laid, plastics have a memory like metal so storage is very important. (In a perfect world always stored flat or worst case a large diameter roll), however many a squashed roll of lino has given a lot of fun and amusement/grief to those who wish to tame it.
