Our first trip away was to Bribie Island, Bongaree in October 2017. Fantastic amenities, will go back again. Our second trip was to Corindi Beach, north of Coffs Harbour in February 2018. Again, another great spot we recommend. Finally, our most recent trip was to Brunswick Heads, Reflections Terrace Caravan Park last week. Spent many happy days here in the 80's and enjoyed our return visit.

Been sorting through some pics on the Laptop I found this one that I planned on sharing earlier. So here goes. Spotted at the Caravan park in Tooraweenah, NSW 2831 July 2017 while we were heading north. A genuine 1 owner 1973 Rambler Matador towing a 1 owner 1970's Franklin. 73 Rambler Matador-70s Franklin2 by , on Flickr The picture doesn't do it justice, the inside of the caravan was pristine. They were a delightful couple to chat with. They had not surfaced when I took this pic.. We had to get going..

Now to get back to the year 2018.. After we left the VV Nats at Wangaratta we headed to Maryborough for a 'Caravan Rally' with another caravan club, it proved to be interesting. I am not going to post pics of the caravans, they were all boxes in grey or white. BUT a neighbouring house caught my eye so I share what I saw on here. Containers anyone? by , on Flickr After a couple of days socialising, gas bagging about caravans and sight seeing we headed to Stawell where we found one I have never seen in the flesh. A Chesney. Looks in good nick and regularly used. by , on Flickr Perhaps someone may be able to tell us what year it is. I could not find a chassis number on the draw bar. And finally, for this time, Spotted in the Servo at Halls Gap by , on Flickr

Hi Bobt, That Chesney is 1971 or 72,when they went to the new improved front and rear fibreglass panels, very attractive it was too IMO! That van has an interesting layout too, front club lounge, mid kiTchen on both sides and through a door to a double bed and robes in a seperate room. That model also had a rear boot. They used glossy laminate all through the interior, which if looked after still looks good. Cheers hughdeany

We just got home from a loop up to Sydney to catch up family. Have a daughter and a son in different parts of Sydney. Took our Freedom to give us just that. Spent a night in Windang (Illawarra area), a couple in Sussex Inlet and 3 in Eden. Since we have acquired our Travelhome, we now notice how many 60s,70s and 80s vans are used in Van parks as onsiters. Some of them are now fixed but many look like they could be put back on the road with minimal effort.

So many "did have" A lot have been replaced with cabins, depending on the park owners. Others have enforced a 1980s or so cut off, on gummy you may see a flood of on site & annex (both Illawarra parks) had a few within a 6 month period. Where i stay in Sydney of the 12 in 2014, only 2 remain now, cabins taken over plot/site. Insurance audits play a big part in this.

I often see the 70's and 80's vans on the road and in caravan parks. Being used by tourists.
Often see them in caravan parks as on siters owned by individuals. Most Parks I visit have gone the way of cabins.
Nice to see you getting out nickd15

We have just been to the Big Red Bash, (Birdsville) I think we may have been the first fat bikes on Big Red. 9000 ticket sales, 500 volunteers, top line artists, you have to be fully self contained. Fuel needs to be worked on, the roadhouse opened at 8am when the que started at 4am (how arrogant) Not so the Pub they know how to turn a dollar, quite an experience.

I bet the fuel was top dollar up that way ? K.J. Hi KiwiJim, Good to hear from you. We traveled 3880km from Caloundra/return in a loop, about 800 on gravel. About 17lt per 100km average with a 2.5 ton modern. Fuel was average about $1.55 in the larger outback centres for diesel ($1.59 on the coast) Birdsville $1.72lt. The Bash tickets were $461.00 ea, $89.00 for an early bird 2 day pass, $23.00 for the dog. (Dogs not recommended) Kentucky didn't appear, but was needed. Not enough food vendors. BUT a different experience.

Thanks for the info Mustang, Who said that there is no money around ? Just have a look at that aerial shot of the gathering... must be a couple of thousand people there !!! "What" no Kentucky Fried looks like I may have to do some more modifications to the Coromal.... Second thoughts, "nup" probably wouldn't stand the rough road. K.J.

Out for a 4 day weekend Winter camp I do with mates each year - we try and pick the coldest weekend of the year - It's raining and 6 degrees right now so pretty good choice. 😁👍 Pic was taken just before the rain front moved through. Will be 60 of us here by tomorrow night with all forms of camping gear - tents to classic vans, to modern marvels. The campsite is off the beaten track and there's around 4KM of 4WD tracks to tip toe through to get here - who says classics aren't off roaders? This is the first year there's been mobile reception here - a new tower got put up in the small town 10KM from here so not quite as remote as it used to be... Untitled by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr
