Well.. We can learn something every day.
The two trees are at Lake Barrine in the Crater Lakes National Park – east of Atherton.
These twin Kauris are estimated to be over 1100 years old.

There you go Jim you got it. The ball eeeerrrrr photos are now in your hands ;D ;D ;D Let me say the twin kauri trees are huge, am so glad they left them. Some of the trees that have been cut are over 6ft through. Kauri pine was prized for flooring and many of the older buildings/houses in the Atherton Tablelands still have them as floors after 50-60 and more years. Cheers Atog

KiwiJim may recognize this.. It’s Tane Mahuta – the oldest and largest living Kauri tree in New Zealand. The tree is about 4 metres in diameter and over 2000 years old Living Kauri are now a protected species in NZ – the only Kauri used for commercial purposes now are Kauri dug up from swamps – some of them over to 3000 years old. But that’s not the next puzzle – the old house below is the next one to find. I’m sure there are some ‘ Old Rockers’ on here.. Where is this old farm house and what’s the significance of it? Jim

Hey Jim Now that is a bit unfair... rockers were teens in the 50's.. Every one on 'ere is too young for that. So what year were you first there? bobt

Excellent work there Shane.. It is the old house on the cover of Midnight Oil's 'Diesel and Dust' CD – located about five km’s north of Burra in SA. Do you have the CD, or have you been to Burra, and possibly past the old house? My first clues were going to be.. ‘It’s in South Australia’.. ‘There’s a connection with a current Federal Government Minister, possibly more popular for his past music than recent government decisions.’Here’s the CD cover.. Jim

Lovely part of the world right now apart from the odd locust plague. Was up there on the weekend picking up a 1880's mantlepiece. Going to Burra always causes a headache. Never sure whether to go through Clare or the Barossa (or both) and usually decide based on what wine we want ;D

Hello Jim, Have passed through Burra, on our way north. I remember some time back watching a program on TV about Midnight Oil when they released this album, how they were driving through and saw this home and decided to use it. Funny how some things stick in the mind and not until prompt do we remember. Here is another where is. Yes its in Australia. Regards Shane

Al.. You are so right about threads like this.. They can provide wonderful information about interesting places to visit on your ‘ Big Trip’ – (or even on a little trip).. It’s often the little things – the things that don’t make it onto tourist brochures or travel websites that are most interesting. And.. as well.. If you become ‘ AFOG’ ( A Friend Of Google) it’s amazing what else you find along the way. Sometimes, if you search with Google, you may not find the answer to the current picture, but you find out heaps of other interesting stuff while you search. Let’s hope the thread keeps going at the calibre it has been so far.. great stuff.. You might need a few reams of paper Al, if this thread reaches 1000 posts. Ok.. How’s this for confirmation that Bob has got it exactly right? Natural Arch at Springbrook in the Hinterland behind the Gold Coast.. Jim

Eh? Did I hear my name being called? ;D ;D Didn't recognise the natural arch.... Last time I was there .... I was 20 Got to go again it is a really nice place. Unfortunatley don't have any photos. Memory is getting bad. Yes this thread is certainly getting a work out and it gives everyone a chance to show us parts of Oz that we may not have been to. Also travel ideas as Al seems to have. ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

G’day Bob..
Is it one of the little Abt engines that operates on the West Coast Wilderness Railway in Tasmania? It may be one of the ‘rack type’ engines (the rack to assist on steep grades), sitting on the hand operated turntable at Dubbil Barril.
Jim
(Great picture - by the way)
