Bingo!! ;D ;D It is the cable car that runs from the Taronga Zoo ferry wharf up to the main entrance. Most people would give the capital cities a wide berth during the "big trip", but I would strongly encourage people to at least do some sort of ferry ride on Sydney Harbour. It really is a great experience!! This is the view from inside one of the cable cars, as we made our way back down to the ferry wharf... See why it would have been too obvious if I'd posted this first? Over to you shaneandsimoen. cheers, Al.

North to nowhere.. hmm.. That sounds a bit cryptic.
I’m reasonably sure it’s not Normanton-Croydon..
You did say it’s on the line out of Barcaldine – so how about Hughenden or Richmond?

Hello Jim,
Quote from Jim You did say it’s on the line out of Barcaldine – so how about Hughenden or Richmond?
No not that line.
Nowhere and north.
Need to rethink your answer Jim.

Shane
Do you mean it’s not on an existing rail line now - but in a place where there once was a rail line?
The Nowhere clue is a little too cryptic.
A direction and distance would be better.

Hello atog, yes you are correct. Sorry Jim, north was north of Winton. Nowhere was, it is the Gulflander is known as the train that run from nowhere to nowhere, Normanton to Croydon, Was here in 2004, went for a train ride and tea to Critters Camp approx 25km from Normanton, worth a trip. Runs from Normanton to Croydon once a week to deliver mail. The Steel Sleepers and Steel Rails The first rail on the Normanton-Croydon railway was laid in 1888. To lower construction costs and to defeat the termites of the Gulf, specially patented steel sleepers were used, designed by QR Inspecting Surveyor George Phillips (1843-1921). The sleepers were packed with earth when they were laid, giving extra weight and stability, and the rails were bolted to the sleepers which meant they could not move nor work loose in the same way as dog-spikes used in timber sleepers. In flood time water simply passed over the top. We were told that most of the original sleepers are still in use. More info found here thegulflander.com.au/history/overview/Shane

No mate They are two very old trees that where left by the timber getters. Next to a lake. Massive amount of lumber in those trees. Of a variety that is much sort after today. Fine grained, light in colour and light in weight, was often used in timber floors. A shot of me beside one of the trees. Atog

Is this somewhere near the "curtain fig" up on the Atherton Tablelands? Somewhere near Lake Eacham or Lake Barrine? They can't be rosewood trees. None left in Cairns after the Olympic restoration. Looking at your last photo, I dunno why people always say you've got your head in the clouds... Al.
