Hi, Atog. they look like excellent catches. i replaced my catches with similar to existing which were only cheap kitchen cupboard type catches. not good enough on bumpy roads. i got sliding baskets from Howards Storage and was able to place locking pins in holes provided (just as well or it really would have been a mess). all the best with your olympic. phil.

Howdy Atog, I'm still waiting for an answer to the question I fired at you a couple of posts back, Don't you have to have the rear number plate illuminated on your van in your neck-of-the-woods It's just that I can't see any sign of a light above the plate in the photo you took of the rear of your van with the new stickers ( very good lookin ) by the way, and that cabinet wood work.............makes the old Thomson look pretty dull, I may have to rip my old girl apart and start again, Know where I can get any 1st grade Rosewood anywhere cheers and beers kiwijim

Hey Jim Sorry about missing your question Had to take them off when spraypainting the van Haven't put them or the offside clearance lights back on yet Too many other things to do.... Besides she isn't going anywhere soon so ..... not a big rush to refit them The rosewood is all from New Guinea - so it is a little closer to me than you currently.... Perhaps a trip to Cairns and we can refurbish the Thomson in Rosewood NEVER..... sacrilege ..... The Thomson is great just as she is ;D ;D ;D Maybe...... a trip to Cairns and we can compare notes ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey there Atog, Don't you worry about catching up with you Mate, Your address is defiantly on the hit list and we will be on your door step sometime in the near future. I hope you know that us KIWI'S are very partial to most types of sea food, my favorite is battered Scollop's followed closely by those "you beaut" large crabs, then Rock lobster, ;D ;D ;D Just to down all that lovely sea food, there has to be at least a block of the brown fluid...........thats just for starters, then if one is rather hot it may take a couple of extra blocks, just to wait for the Sun to go down ;D ;D I have received definite instructions on the tearing apart of the Thomson to fit Rosewood furnature.........thats a definite "NO NO" When I mentioned it to the Sugar & Spice the answer was rather frightning...........You've spent two B##@y years on that van, and you're not doing any more to it......"JEZ" we'll never get on the road............. . yes dear. only joking ...."phew" Catch you soon Mate, kiwijim

G'day Kiwicarl, Atog & all, Hey Atog, I must admit that I do agree with Kiwicarl, Those pillows definitely require a repaint, recover, or removal. ;D Hope this doesn't upset Mrs Atog too much, but may-be you could be smart........ ;D ;D ;D take the Young Lady into the van and encourage her to have a pillow fight, by the time you both are exhausted there should be very little left of the pillows........ Problem solved ;D ;D ;D Have fun, kiwijim

Gidday Fellas, (Ouch) I have just been talking to the wife and she agrees (Arrgh) that the colour scheme (OOF!!) is a little busy. She also confirmed that the red is indeed (BIFF) maroon and that (OWWW)pillow fights are more fun with a work boot in the pillow case and that maroon wont show the blood as much ( Hey put that down dear !!!!) Kiwicarl

Gee Atog
I am in enough trouble for posting some of the photos my wife took. I was not game enough to comment on the pillows while my wife stood near me.... She would have disagreed with my opinion just to get even.
Good choice mate..

Hey Gents Have been a bit quite on this thread of late cause the kitchen doors that were started about 18 months ago were giving me some issues.... Have been making frames etc for about two weekends and decided to fit them on Saturday after final trimming the edges Weeeeelllll things didn't turn out as planned Bunnings wanted $42 for 900mm of stainless piano hinge and I'm not willing to pay that So the top door will wait until next week When I can get into the local cabinetry shop and buy it by the metre off a continuios roll Much cheaper.... from memory about $15 mtre Had a bit of extra work to do on one door and not willing to wait for the panel saw next weekend So out with Dad's planes My dear ol Dad built his first home in the 1940's in the Lake Macquarie area After he past away his tools came to me Seems they were just junk to my siblings..... their loss my gain These planes are some of his tools Finished planing the offending door in record time and fitted the two lower doors cause I had enough piano hinge for them The top door will fold down Have yet to fit the catches to the bottom doors Think it might be good to use magnet catches..... Not real sure yet what will be done Before you lot say anything Yes the fridge is crooked and it is just a bar fridge.... But hey .... it fits The van isn't going anywhere real soon and now I can hide my beer ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D You will also notice it is plugged into one of the overhead sockets My electrician fitted the fridge power outlet on the wrong side and if it was used the fridge wouldn't slide all the way back Yet another little job to be fixed - when he gets time Cheers Atog

Hey Atog, Nice set of planes there mate keep hold of those buddy, it is a lost art the hand plane. If I'm not mistaken they look like a No7 jack stanley, a No4 smoothing stanley and an old wooden block plane manufacturer unknown. If those are looked after mate they will last about ten lifetimes. I have a couple of oldies and they were still going strong when I last used them years ago now, but still safe in oily rags and in a warm dry place until needed again. No wonder you do such nice work mate if you take time and care like it sounds you do. A wee tip that you may or may not know is if you have a particularly nasty looking joint and you need to soften it or fill it use some fine dust of the same timber from the sander bag and a little pva glue mixed into a paste to fill said gap (dont overdo it tho') then let dry and sand - most of the time you can barely see where the join or gap was. Carl ;D P.S. Can't knock a fridge that's got the good stuff in it

Hi Kiwicarl Very very close No 6 Stanley jack plane and the other two you are correct No 4 Stanley block plane and ? wood plane
They are so nice to use it is a shame to have them packed away
The sawdust idea is one often used ..... except that it comes out a bit dark with Rosewood So use a waterbased wood filler where possible
Mostly use exterior aquahere for general joins as it is a crosslinked glue .... sticks like the proverbial to a blanket ;D ;D ;D
Cheers Atog

Gidday boys, bobt you might want to try stronger glasses Actually the numbers are raised in such a manner that if you swipe your guide dog over them he will tell you ruffly what number it is . Failing that you might be able to google it or ask the wife - mine knows everything ! ;D Carl

Hi Gents Well there isn't a lot to show for the weekends work Finished replacing the license plate lights as per Kiwijims observations Reattached the clearance lights as well Finished putting the kitchen cupboard doors on The fold down section will be used as a shelf when the ball and chain is cooking [ Removed, redrilled and refitted the entrance door ..... was a bit low. Then added the rubber surround for the door New handle on the inside All boring but needed adjustments Nothing visually interesting but ..... it is toward the end of the rebuild Even found time to add a couple of folding coat hooks at the entrance under the fire extinguisher .... use them for .... coats ;D ;D ;D ;D Strange considering I have used four as door handles ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey there ATOG, Now thats what I call a well lit rear end, good to see the vans fully covered with lights now. I would like to know.....How come you have a nice new S/S jug on the bench top ( above some ripper lookin doors ) and all I can afford is a plastic imitation of a jug ( from China ) sitting in the Thomson. Have you been raiding the Wedding Presents ;D ;D ;D kiwijim

Hi Jim To answer your question The Cheese and Kisses said "Now it's almost finished ... I'll just add a few touches " Since then there has been a steady stream of "Touches"coming into the van Bed linen, pillows, the microwave, the jug... more plastic containers than China produces in a week, glass candle and a heap of other stuff that disappears into the once vacant spaces of the van "I Don't want to put anything else in the van except us and our clothes when we are going on a holiday or weekend away" ...... Think she might be a tad anxious to get a trip or two happening? ;D ;D ;D Besides.... I reckon you're saving all your money on laptops and for fuel ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog
