G'day kcountrychic, and welcome to the forum! ;D ;D Congratulations on mastering Photobucket. Many a person has given up in disgust after a number of attempts, but you've managed to get it working properly for you pretty early. So well done! Your van looks like it's been very well looked after on the inside. Love the new floor, and that 'deluxe' bed being built looks like it will be a real beauty! The outside of the van doesn't look too bad either, now that you've given it a good clean-up. Gotta love those Viscounts. Should give you many years of faithful service. ps. I've moved this thread over to the Hall Of Fame section of the forum, which is where we keep all the stories of what people are doing to their vans. Just keep adding to this thread as you work through the rest of the restoration. Look forward to seeing how the bed turns out. cheers, Al.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Looks like a nice van you have, nothing like making your own changes to a van, it becomes more pesonallised that way. yes I know what you mean about removing excess silicon, some people just smear it everywhere in the hope that it will stop the leaks. have you tried polishing your van?. Mine was faded and the paint was chalky but after a couple of goes with a good car polish it looks almost new. LoL with your endeavour, Frankidownunder.

Hi kcountrychic
Welcome aboard.
Nice looking van you have there.
You have done a marvelous job of laying the new floor covering. Very nice fit around the furniture.
It certainly does look in good condition. Congratulations on the score.

Thanks so much Al, yep it sure does look good now, I looked at so many caravans before I bought this one to do up............just need someone to give me a blank cheque so we can take off and see this beautiful country of ours.........I'd love to buy a bigger viscount now with dual axle (Im used to towing horse floats and this single axle idea still has me a little worried if a tyre was to bust going down the freeway).......though she tows beaut wouldn't even know shes behind the nissan......

Howdy Kcountrychic, Now thats one very, very nice lookin Viscount, Doesn't it make you proud to stand back and say "WE Did This" A hundred pats on the back for a job well done, I will bet it's still on the road in another 20 years time. And what better tow wagon could you have, than a "Mighty Nissan" (Proud owners unite) ;D ;D ;D . Don't worry about waiting for a blank cheque to arrive, Grab the House-keeping cash and have a ball, ;D ;D I say, to hell with the expense, make the best of it, tomorrow will look after it's self. ;D ;D ;D Have a good one. kiwijim.

Don't worry about the tyres blowing out, kcountrychic. The load per tyre on the van is similar to the load per tyre on your car. Gonna have the same heart-stopping moment if you blow one of the tyres on your car.
I'm not involved in the horse trailer side of life, but my guess is the horse trailers are built as tandems because the horses are a "moving" load, and the weight can shift forward and backwards more readily than what would happen inside a van. The tandem wheels would help to distribute the horse load more evenly, I should think. Less pitching of the tow coupling.
You blow a tyre on the horse float, leaving only one tyre on one side, the horse(s) sh*t themselves, rear forward/backward -> uneven loading -> swaying trailer -> loss of control -> Aaaargh!!!
Stick with this Viscount, unless you decide down the track you need a bigger van! ;D ;D
cheers, Al.
