Hey Atog Congratulations on the work in Bowen mate, do what I do and treat all work away from home as a bit of a working holiday and it seems a lot less like work then, well it does for me anyway especially if your in a van and sleeping under the stars when the weather allows or demands it car + van + tarp = paradise. ;D Save a couple of mangoes for us mate Carl

G'day Atog, Good luck with your stint in Bowen, could be the start of bigger things. An old mate of ours went fruit picking down south with his missus loved the lifestyle that much ended up doing it for 15 years before they retired..
Cheers Bob and Jacqui.

My old Man used to say,........."Ya gotta get a job with a Perk in it", or it's a useless job.
Hope you are fond of Mangoes, they go well with a great dunking of fresh cream on top, and straight out of the fridge.
Mangoes are selling here in the Super markets for $2.99ea I ain't paying that much for them, so make your job last Mate, We will gladly help you when we arrive. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Gents Thanks for the kind thoughts Will be working my ...... off in Bowen It is a short sharp stint so ..... make hay while the sun shines ;D ;D B&J Will be thinking of how I can extend the trip to make it more of a working holiday Wife and daughter will join us in three weeks and they have been offered jobs as well Hey Jim Love mangoes ;D ;D ;D ;D The best way to eat them is while sitting in a mountain stream Chills the mangoes and it doesn't matter how much of a mess you make Bob As the family will be joining me - we will spend all of December and most of January in Bowen Have been looking forward to leaving the Cairns area for some time now Been out of the area three times since 1994 So is time for an extended holiday all be it a working one Well The windows are back in the WB Took all yesterday to clean up the rust and rubbers. Most of today until 2pm to refit them all When I pulled them out most of the rubbers had a gap between the ends of up to 15mm Which they filled with ?? who knows what Now ..... they all touch Just a small amount of Matrix .... and they is watertight ;D ;D Still got lots to do in prep to leave Hey Kiwicarl I'll think of you blokes while sinking my teeth into a couple of huge mangoes ........ Hey Everyone Haven't really done anything on the Panelvan since November. Had a knock at the door recently Older gent standing there. "Hi just looking at the panelvan... is that your sons?" "NO mate it's mine why's that?""Errr well it use to be mine... have a few parts here for you" Yep that's right One of the previous owners was in the area and he saw the van. Had sold it over a year before and decided to give me a set of spark plugs, a tappet cover gasket and an oil filter Just because he still liked the old van. How good is that!!!!! Seems the love of older cars runs deep. Cheers Atog

Hey everyone Couple of weeks ago realised the brake light on one side of the panelvan was out. So go to replace the bulb...... Cheap plastic housing ...... broken Oh well the tail light cover needs replacing as well cause it has weathered over the years Onto the net and see how much to replace a full tail light and housing...... over $130 Not happy Jan We haven't got the money so now we have to think So looking around the workshop Guess what I remembered was taken off a HZ Premier station wagon about six months ago? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Like my new second hand cost me nothing but time tail lights with diecast metal housing instead of the cheap plastic crap? Also cleaned out the garage so the van fitted inside Less weathering Also gave me the place to remove a few blemished (read holes) in the van and retouch it. So now she resides inside instead of killing the grass out front Few more things to do over coming months Can't rush these things you know ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

G'day Atog Awesome car. I had an 81 wb one tonner years ago,i put a fresh 350chev in her, statesman wb caprice front end and a bare matal chrome yellow 2pac paint in and out + engine bay....I had a leak in the same spot under dash but by memory i think the drain hose fell off with all the fidling i done to it ...what a powerhouse. I use to tow my race boat with it, was an awesome car. you got a good model very hard to find a good one these days for a small fortune... Is good to have new toys.

Thanks RR She is a bit underpowered with a 202 But does the job admirably. Will continue to use it as a work car until I can save up for another tow car for the Olympic Then it may be sold or hidden in a shed until I'm ready to play. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D If I play it will be a mid yellow and a total rebuild. The previous car was the orange HX ute in my avatar Just can't seem to bring myself to changing the avatar ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey Gents Well since the Olympic is virtually finished I've started another project or two. Here's the main one Been a bit cash strapped and ...... lazy ..... So it's taking me a bit of time to rebuild the engine. Mate of mine and I were talking about cars a few weeks ago and he asked if I was interested in a 202 blue motor and gearbox. Yep. So some weeks and $ later I had this one delivered. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Just going to clean it up and refit all original bits that work. plus new rings, bearings and various gaskets. No race engine .... just a recon. My daughter has fallen in love with the panelvan and is currently bugging me to sell it to her So an engine that is in good order is a must..... if she gets it. Current engine in the WB is OK but down on power to tow the Olympic. Plus the valve stem rubbers are shot. So every morning when you start the engine there is a blue haze at the rear of the van. Nothing serious.... just showing its age. Cheers Atog

[glow=red,2,300]WHOA BACK THERE[/glow]
Have you found a drifter?
Sell the WB... are you crazy...............
A four speed box in her would make a real big difference.
Don't you just love the holden 6..(straight) so easy to rebuild...

Hey Bobt Yes mate I have found a Drifter Actually several Just haven't got the cash for one ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The Cheese and Kisses wants one of those oversized poser 4x4's Land Cruiser wagon, diesel, air, power steering no less.... No offense meant to you JimIt would take 2 decades or more for that Not new of course.... No .... I'd be pushing up daisies before we owned it, if that were the case. I'd rather be doing it in a Drifter..... and travelling as well ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Not into Classic Cars my Missus. So we have to keep the cook happy and it will be a Cruiser or Patrol as a tow car for the Olympic next........ not happy about that really The only consolation is that if I find a 21 foot Olympic I know it will have the grunt to tow it. ;D ;D ;D ;D The Drifter or S pak will have to wait. But I will get one eventually Cheers Atog

We bought a Land Rover Discovery, does the job well, my wife loves the seating position and it is a hell of a lot smaller than a Toyota/Nissan. Cheers, Ron

Hey Ron The Missus wants the option of collecting excess baggage so it has to be a wagon..... I prefer a panelvan cause they are a nicer vehicle to me. She prefers the mod cons... She wins..................... for the moment... I'm not bagging others choices Just my preferences Cheers Atog

The Missus wants the option of collecting excess baggage so it has to be a wagon..... I prefer a panelvan cause they are a nicer vehicle to me. I'm with you. I've got a soft spot for panel vans. I had 2 when I was younger, one of which was an ex divvy van. Oh if only those walls in the back could talk! Although by the time I was finished they were covered in inch thick shag pile ;D Try converting the van to a wagon? A mate had an XC Falcon panel van that was legally registered as a 5 seater. Falcon wagons, utes and panel vans were all built on the same floor pan, so the previous owner just used a wagon back seat, seat belts, relocated the wagon fuel tank and used coupe front bucket seats (coupe seats folded forward for rear seat access). With the rear seat folded down it looked like any other panel van, folded up 'Griswold Family Truckster' Not sure with Holden's though? As vans and utes are built on a full chassis, where the sedans and wagons are monocoque. Good luck with the engine.

Hey atog
I think you should stick with the P/Van. 4x4's are nice but they cost more to run more buy... find your 22' Olympic then yep I would consider one but in the mean time the holden is miles cheaper to run.
I suffer dizzy spells if I sit in anything that is more then 6" off the ground ;D

Hey Bobt Yep I prefer a two wheel drive The panelvan has plenty of room and stands out as a different vehicle. The new and modern vehicles all seem to blend into one another. We'll see as we get closer to the goal $ ...... which is some time off. Jim's trip around also gives us a cost figure that would help. Tried something new last night Trimming my toenails ........ with an engine head. Not a good result. Should have been wearing steel caps...... oh well now I get to join the hobbling wounded ;D ;D ;D Only just caught my big toe so it isn't that bad.... just a bit painful. Glad it wasn't the block ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog
