Recently Ryno closed their books on Classic Vans. I went to Shannons (reluctantly, do you sleep in your van? no mame, I just tow it around!!!) they gave me a quote because we had a Mustang. Now I have sold the Mustang & as Corvid 19 hit at the time of signing I decided to park the Walden & keep the policy open as they would honor it for 12 months. Now I'm led to believe Shannons will only insure some vans if you have a car with them?? Can any member recommend a company that will insure vans 30 YO. ? Cheers Brent

My van is insured with Shannons on it's own but it's an existing policy. It is quite limited but does cover enough for me as I don't really keep anything in it other than what is built in which is covered. If you want insurance to cover belongings in the van from theft, etc then it wouldn't be suitable as they only cover $500 for that. Not sure who else does any sorry - I know I had difficulty in finding anyone else when I insured mine. It is insured for $16,000 for just under $300 for the year.

Hi Snoops, Not worried about inside stuff, just a highway loss. I have researched the Vintage Van Forum & it appears Shannons are making it tighter, with ridiculous claims that you are not to sleep in your van, & they will not cover you outside a VV or car event??
RACQ cut out at 30yo, CIL have been over the top in price in the past, I sent QBE an email days ago, no reply.
Think I'll just have to wing it!! Cheers

Nothing like that in the PDS I just got from them with the renewal that I saw - it certainly covers loss on the road, including towing/salvage from what I can see. I will take another look re sleeping in it. If you PM me your email address I’ll zap you a copy of the PDS if you want?

Hi Snoops, Twice now I have been asked if I camp in the van, as others as well have been asked (go figure). The Vintage Van forum has a fair amount of info from Shannon's new tact, some is just plain crazy.
I have sent quotes to two companies, neither have answered in a week? Cheers

My experience with trying to negotiate over the phone or via email is not good. I have always found a face to face across the counter is much better.
Good luck..

Have you tried CIL Insurance, have our 1980 Jayco Swan and our 1992 StarCraft insured with them. Do monthly payments.

I'll give them another go. Cheers

Not sure on vans, but for my Motorhome, they were quite inexpensive for what I need - that's around $50K cover for a custom built (by me) 2007 Sprinter, but also includes breakdown transport, car hire, etc which the RACV don't cover on vehicles such as this.

UPDATE:
Rang NRMA today.
No mention of needing a membership,
QUOTE $415.00 for $20K insured with $1K excess, $445.00 with $500 excess.
( They will cover a "lay up" rate, while its in the yard , but you have to nominate the months ahead?)
How does that sit with others?
If you do not want to publicly compare, PM me, or just say "too expensive" or "not bad", I've never paid this much but now I don't have a choice.
Cheers
Brent
