Hi All,
Recently purchased a 1973 Chesney Kampa in need of restoration. The previous owner butchered the slide out bed mechanisms and I have come across this site in my search for info.
I have managed to piece the beds back together and need some help working out the sliding mechanism. I have the wheels sorted however, can't figure out what support the bed at the point where it goes across the end wall.
I am hoping there maybe someone on this board that may have a 70s Kampa that could help out.
Cheers Gary

sorry been busy but I did own a chesney camper the wheels run in a aluminum square channel if my memory is correct you will have a boat winch on the front this has the two cables for front and back the wire rope has to both have tension at the same time to lift roof way from bed end. when the beds are extended there should be two metal rods both ends they are bent at the ends to fit into holes at end of bed frame and below on chassis i am sure should be bits of small tube welded to chassis .

Thanks for the replies Mustang and 78466noM,
I have spent quite a bit of time researching on Google, Youtube and Gumtree looking for images and have sent emails to several people. A couple of people promised to send close ups of their vans however, never followed through.
I have everything worked out about how the popup mechanism works and what supports the beds and where. My nemesis is what supports the bed above the end wall.
I have attached an image and circled in red the area of concern. The blue line is to highlight that the previous owner appears to have cut something off.
If I could get a similar photo from an original camper, I think I could solve the puzzle.

gtxb - we are about to sell a GT Kampa, so I went and had a look - what specific details are you after? Just briefly: 1. the bed frame pulls out - it is spring loaded and comes out as the roof lifts up, the ends of the bed frame are part of the opening structure so are kind of held to the roof frame as well. 2. a light tent shaped frame is attached to the top edges of the bed, which then pulls up to form the canvas walls and roof shape. A separate pole then runs from the top of that frame, into the van into a hole on the roof frame. 3. Two poles run from UNDER the bed frame corners down to the chassis to brace the bed.
Sounds like your bed has somehow been separated from the frame, so Sam is going to open it up and I will take some detailed photos for you. Your photo didn't come through, but I hope I am on the right track for you.

I am considering purchasing a Kampa GT that needs a new canvas. Can someone give me an idea of how much cost a new canvas kit for it and how much will be a fair price to buy the camper as is? If it is registered and has new tires, $2250 is too much if needs to replace the canvas? How much is the average price of them in good condition?
Your inputs are appreciated. Cheers' Arthur

Hi Arthur, I would obtain photos & take them to your nearest upholster or canvas maker. They will give you a more accurate idea to costs. Mustang

Thank you Mustang for the reply Well, after seeing the canvas and the interior of the trailer I have let it go. The asking price is $2250 ONO but the is nofridge or stove and needs a new canvas. The replacement cost of the canvas and overhaul of the lifting system is about $5000. From time to time Chesneys Kampa GT in good shape are for sale here in Tas for about $5000. I wait.
