Hello you all and I hope that all of you are well and safe. After selling my home converted Toyota campervan I bought a Land Rover Discovery and we are in the market for an old caravan. Our preference is for something about 16 to 19 footer and be aluminium framed like the Viscount or Millard. What other brads have aluminium frame? Are the Statesman caravans timber or aluminium? Your inputs are appreciated. Cheers Gitano (Arthur)

Thanks, mate, we are looking for a caravan now but there are no many options for clean ones in Tas. There are couple of unregistered Franklin Arrows one for $4500 and the other $5500 but by the time that we get all the certifications we will start with about $6000 + any work needed so we prefer go for one registered.

G'day Arthur, and welcome back from me as well.
Chesney is another brand that had the aluminium frame in the 1970s (marketed as the Chesney "Aero frame").
I'm not sure about the Statesman. I seem to remember this was the 'elite' name used by Franklin for their upmarket vans in the mid-1970s. I'm sure hughdeany will know more.
cheers, Al.

Hi Arthur, Franklin statesman was thermopanel sandwich panels, the Statesman stand alone brand was wooden framed. As Al said,Chesney Aero Frame,Millard Viscount,Coromal, some Windsor’s (optional),Glendale, some Murrumba Stars,York,Golf,Astrek,Advance, some Futura, some Newlands, That’s a few to start your search with, probably lots of others but that’s all I can think of at present! Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Thank you guys, I will have them in my list. My old Franklin Arrow also was not timber-framed but I would prefer this time something wider and with alum frames. It looks like that the value of old vans has changed in the last 3 years because will be hard to find one in good condition or restored for less than $8000 or more.

Hi snoops, it is nice to be in contact with you again. Today morning the Disco will be delivered to our home and we are looking forward to having a van soon. Have you still having the Arrow or upgraded to a bigger van? I am looking for something wider than the Arrow now.

The Arrow got sold on to a family in Qld who use it and love it. I ended up buying a Viscount off Mick and putting that back on the road. It’s almost complete but sitting down the farm at the moment as my home away from home, but can’t use it at this time due to Covid19, but I’ll be back there soon I hope. 👍 All the details here - ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/3060/gavs-new-viscount-van?page=17 😊

Welcome back! Wow i need to send my Arrow to Tassie, even with transport cost it would still be an extra $1000 - $1500 on Sydney prices.

Tasmanian prices on old vans hold up much better than the south mainland. My kids realised $3K for an old Hunter that was worth $500.

Sorry about late reply, health issues & now a houso, after surving covid in carra park. Stupidly i donated my Arrow to a mate who helped me, but in hindsight selling it & giving his wife a few grand would have been a better outcome. i have lurked here a few times but not logged in so no notifications.
