12 months ago my love bought a Roadstar 16'6" single axle with all the fruit & we like it....well almost all of it, the brakes were crap from the start.
The Tekonsha controller would loose the setting digits now & again, not knowing the voltage settings was a pain ,so I replaced it.
Now I have the voltage screwed up to 13 & still very average, so I engaged boost 2. On arrival home on Monday all we could smell was burning brakes on one side, a quick shot with the temperature gun, one side 140c the other 35c, sheeezz.
Tues morn off come the hubs, the left side doing all the work was full of brake dust, the magnet tested ok, pads somewhat worn but OK.
The right side was squeaky clean, no dust no wear, hmmm now test the magnet, Dead As, with chaffed cables both cable holders pulled off with the assumption the cabling has got caught up between the magnet & the drum.
Test run the new magnet & 100% improvement but the left side was running hotter by 20c , so I back that side off a couple more turns of the star wheel & bingo they both run at the same temperature.
We like the Roadstar quality & the suspension is AC Delco Rubber torsion, which is a third party supplied product.
Moral of the story, check out safety sooner than later, I'm disgusted with myself for not investigating this sooner, but we had our auto electrician booked to replace the brake cable with 6mm from the pedal back, thinking the tiny cables fitted were loosing voltage. He also suggested HD magnets, so we will see this through anyway, to be on the safe side.
Off to the Toowoomba Swap Meet for the first time, with a better feeling about stopping.
Cheers
Brent
