Thanks - Yeah, it’s in very good original condition. 43,000KM from new - all matching numbers, original paint and interior - about the best example of a Series II XJ6 out there. 👍. This is a 1977 model. AC (that works great), power steering, electric windows, dual fuel tanks, central locking, leather interior. Very nice. This is the long wheel base too, so 4” longer than the standard model - all of which is leg room in the back - with the drivers seat right back, you’d still get a very tall person in with comfort.
I have 2 other vehicles on Club Reg here in Vic - it is a very good system that allows up to 90 days use. Only problem with that is you have to have the Burgundy H plates on it and a set of custom Euro style plates would look better... Will see, I am in a car club so can put it on Club Reg just as easy. 👍
In Vic, all you need is a car over 20 years old, belong to a car club that is authorised for club Reg by VicRoads, a Road Worth Certificate and that’s it. You then pay around $70 a year for 45 days use, and can buy another 45 days within the same year. You can drive anywhere at any time with it - you just need to fill the logbook out before each days use and that’s it. 👍. The car club I’m in costs $20 per year with no minimum meeting or trip attendance although I do go to most meetings and trips as they’re a great bunch. 👍

Thanks. It certainly will be out and about on club runs, sunny weekends and car shows. Doubt it will ever get to tow the Viscount though, just don’t know if I could do that to the old girl.

Amazing technology for the era, the only downfall Jaguar had was using Lucas electrics linkI recently drove an E Type, although restored it was amazing. cheers PS : Why not tow the Viscount you can colour co-ordinate the van!!

Yes, I’m all too aware of Lucas (The Prince of Darkness) as I own many Land Rovers - all of which I have ‘de-lucased’. Don’t want to rip the original wiring out of this one, but I will change a few things - most notably the installation of relays for headlights, etc which it won’t have - they rely on the switches to carry the full load of the lights, which always leads to tears - and no headlights when you need them. 😁
Wouldn’t tow the Viscount with it no - I’m sure it would tow it, but I really don’t want to start towing anything with a 40 year old low KM classic car - the cooling package probably wouldn’t handle it either - they were built for cooler climates and even a perfectly operating cooling system in these will struggle when ambient is above around 32 degrees and even worse that that when towing. Even turning the AC on when it tops 30 can cause them to overheat. 😆
May see what a modern radiator can do for it at some point - the factory rad is tiny and thin for a 4.2 litre engine. If I have no issues with controlling the temp, then maybe one day...

A friend in Maryborough has built cars all his life, just completed his second Jag coupe, first thing to go is the engine, replaced with a late model V8 Holden & all electrics.

Well I’m safely home with the Jag - need to think of a name for it now...
A quick 40KM romp home that proved effortless for the engine - I like it a lot already. Not an outright powerhouse but heaps of torque makes it get along real easy.
Tommorrow I’ll go over it with a fine tooth comb. Well at least one of the petrol tank questions has been answered - it’s full so I know it doesn’t leak. The PO filled it when he first got it and found it didn’t work. Will ditch the fuel that’s in it but at least it isn’t rusty!
I pressed the switch to check the fuel pump - no sound, but also the fuel gauge dropped to empty so unless there’s something wrong with the sender (distinct possibility) then I’m thinking the switch may be at fault. I’ll whip it out in the morning and have a play.
Get the club reg papers signed in the morning and will be at VicRoads as they open Monday to get the plates. 👍😊

Nothing bad about it I've always loved the xj6 smooth, quiet it's like driving your lounge 😉 my first jag was a mk2 and I get nostalgic every time I see one😃 a four core alloy radiator will knock any cooling problems to the curb and leave your cat cool and happy even in the hottest weather!

Thanks - have been thinking of a radiator upgrade at some point but I'm a bit skint at the moment for some reason...
Got the plates for it today so it's on the road and ready to drive!

Hi Snoops
I once had caravan club friends that towed their caravan behind their 'salmon coloured' 1972 XJ6. They took it everywhere. They are long gone always wondered what happened to the car. Not sure if I have any pics. I will have to go hunting.

Spectacular!! I keep seeing really nice looking Jags for sale ... with 350 chevs fitted for so little money. You get the reliability and tune-ability of an american dinosaur in an old Jag that looks like its been cherished and loved .... For so little money ( less than $5k ). It is very fortunate I am always broke seeya shane L

You get the reliability and tune-ability of an american dinosaur in an old Jag that looks like its been cherished and loved .... For so little money ( less than $5k ). It is very fortunate I am always broke seeya shane L Yep, there are some bargains out there but if you do ever have the cash, these aren’t nearly as collectable as they should be IMO. Like any old vehicle, do your homework and look very closely before jumping in. A lot (3 that I looked at) of the Chev powered units have no Engineers certificate as they were done so long ago. Mechanicals are actually not the expensive bits on these as the driveline and suspension is very robust, and easy and cheap to fix even today. The Jag 6 is a decent engine IF LOOKED AFTER - which a lot weren’t and got them a similar reputation to Land Rover 6 cylinder engines in the Series 3’s. The BIG money comes on body and interior with these - a small amount of rust under the back seat where the rear end attaches is quite common and renders the vehicle close to a write off - certainly very difficult and expensive to fix, and mandatory for a RWC as the rear end hamgs off the bits that rust - great design huh?😆. The cheapest one I looked at was a good runner and driver but had rust in the sub frame there - less than $5K but with a repair bill around the same price. Like a lot of classic vehicles, buyer beware. These more than some. You’d be right though mate, knowing what you get up to - I’m sure your Missus wouldn’t mind just one more car on the property... 😁 I did almost buy a Chev powered unit - but the PO had colour coded all the bright work and stuck 20” rims on it, and I was looking for something a little more original. Given that the turbo 400 trans came standard on the V12 and slots straight into the 6’s tunnel, swapping to an LS3 or something if this engine ever craps itself isn’t a hard job (just a bit expensive). 👍

all collectible cars go thru that cycle of life. The challenge is working out which ones will come out the other end being desirable … always thought the xj jag would do that, just don't have anywhere to keep a couple..

all collectible cars go thru that cycle of life. The challenge is working out which ones will come out the other end being desirable … always thought the xj jag would do that, just don't have anywhere to keep a couple.. I don't care so much how collectible something is .... Well basically if its sought after and collectible. I'm not owning it as it will cost to much to buy. Eg: the old falcons ... gee's even commodores these days. My father shakes his head is disbelief when he sees the amount being asked for old xy falcons etc these days .... 'Those things were pieces of nuts when new .... let alone 40years later.. I know, I had one" ... My take on it is ... .Does it make you smile ? Do you drive along with a stupid big grin on your face .... Do you enjoy working on it .... Do you tend to climb into your old shitbox and drive it even when its 40degrees outside and you have boring modern piece of crap with decent air-con to drive? That's the car for me. I keep seeing cars like these old Jags ... Old studebakers and think "wow if I had a few thousand to spare right now ........ I'd have one pissed off wife ... and another toy to drive around" ... whenever I had the time and money to fix what had broken on it lately But hey, that is half the fun too I've spotted a really nice tidy old jeep (real jeep .. military thing) for sale in town a couple of weeks ago. Sure I'm positive it is a hideous heap of nuts in every way.... But a really tidy driving willies jeep for $4,000 ...... How could you go wrong ?. I could see myself driving it around all summer... with a stupid big grin on my face. lifes to short to drive boring shitboxes ... I say Go For It ... forget money and prices.... get something that makes you smile everytime you see it parked outside and ignore what others think (especially the angry boss women ). seeya Shane L.

Too true Shane - I took the Jag for a run today in the blazing sun to stress test the cooling system as I’ve never had it out in the heat. Not scorching but mid 30’s and I didn’t put the AC on - I was having too much fun with the windows down and my arm on the door to worry about AC. Noticed that a lot of older people look when you drive past or pull in or out of a car park. Can’t get the grin off my face. Gave it a bit of a hiding and it goes around corners better than I thought it would. I may have cleaned something out of the carbs as later this arvo when I moved it had a miss for a bit until it warmed up. I don’t think the PO drove it much. Needs some TLC which I’m more than happy to provide it.
That little Dolomite would be a hoot. 👍
