Just caught up on the progress of this van. Great work! I thought the effort that went into Vincent was amazing. This one takes the cake! Good to see you back AW

The summer heat has demanded "take it easy" jobs. So the 26 cupboard doors/drawers have found their way back to their rightful positions, fridge in position, through the hatch!! makes for more space around the shed. Even a colour matching P/P cover, All the 240V/12v is finished complete with RCD & a BCDC to keep the battery honest.

The weather has been to hot to work inside, even with a fan. So my attention has turned to the exterior finish. Glassing, sanding, filling, repeat over & over, keep walking around find another chip, repeat filling/ sanding, OOHHhh my God I just walked around & can't find another fault (by my standards) its ready to paint !!!!! Aahh time to get nervous. I decided a while back to remove the windows (they were only sitting there temporary) paint around the insides & the "eyebrows" seal the windows back in the work on the paint over winter, while I get it re-registered. Then......... one morning while opening up the shed I thought the poor little van looked so ugly with all the fillers & different colours, the exterior cant wait, the interior is functional, so it can wait, I will storm ahead with the paint job.

51 Years of stone chips!!!! I reckon the annual holidays were always down a gravel road. Boy I'm getting over sanding!!!! the body surface apart from the ripples is amazingly good considering the years of neglect.

Advice to a fiberglass caravan owner: If your van needs repainting? go to the trouble of spraying with a filler coat, rub back then have a look at the chips that need filling.
My method of single filling while now finished two months later is tooooo tedious.

The humidity has finally dropped, now we can start painting. I decided to tip & roll the greater part of the unseen roof to get a good covering of Norglass, boy this stuff is tough paint. The colour is Opal White, which is actually a nice cream, similar to the original. There will be no extras on the draw bar apart from leveller bars. The small center strip will be the same green (as near as) to the interior cupboards. The hatch has been repaired with smaller layers of fiberglass, then a full layer of chopped strand, a coat of flowcoat, (that was to be the finish) then two coats of Norglass, should be water tight. Glad now its the same colour as the rest of the van

I saw somewhere a comment "close to rego"
That would suggest a lot has happened in the last couple of days.

Almost a year to the day we are finally legal, dodged a bullet with an engineers inspection & got registration through as a hand made. Thank you to the wonderful lady at Qld transport registrar , she was on the phone for an hour due to us not having a legal chassis number, we now have a VIN. Hundreds of hours later, We are off to Laidley next weekend. PS:

Recently finished the internals of our "Wardrobe" not for clothes, who needs hanging? Its now has 6x levels custom built to house various storage boxes & the necessary coffee machine (not pictured) We are unable to attend the Nationals, due to a clashing of dates that involves the modern van, so Winnie Sue will spend another year on blocks, hopefully Leyburn goes ahead in August.

Just like Vincent the Viscount, Winnie dislikes cement highways, & starts to buck on this surface. I use one leveling bar each side, two bars each side don't seem to make a difference. Otherwise on the bitumen the van tows at 100km no issue. On the Viscount I (my neighbour) welded a ladder type brace under the drawbar both sides & it worked a treat, took a long time & welding upside down I didn't want to put him through that again, so I decided to bolt on a ladder type brace to the Winnie draw bar. BEFORE:Using a "nut riveter" you can press into the chassis (only on the underside) a 6mm threaded nut. I wish I had known about these handy tools when I restored my first van. TIP: If you buy one get the double handle, not like the one in the image, its a must. I used 32 x 5 mm flat bar, spacers steel tube 19mm x 1.2 x 45mm & M6 nut rivets with S/S metal threads 60mm. Stay tuned.

AFTERNow travelling over a bump I notice the van only moves once, not the continual jogging up & down, strange how this works ? Material about $50.00.

White wall tyres in light truck seem impossible to find so today I added some "flappers", I think they really lift the look of the van.

First thing for a wonky door is to stiffen it with a frame. Frame complete; New mirror fitted; After refitting the door what can go wrong will !!!!!!! Below all done, a couple of whoopys in the door, but the frame may straighten them out.
