Hello
Ok so admittedly this is my 3rd forum in 2 days that ive joined caravan related and if your on all 3 and have seen me post i apologise if not im trying to get some information on a van we just purchased this past weekend.
The advert said 1974 but the rego papers had 1978 on it and the van says Empire ABS Melbourne i have used the trusty google and searched and found nothing at all on these vans . Ive posted a similar message on a few caravan forums trying my best to get some answers. Shes in great shape and we plan to keep her its our first caravan but really interested in knowing more im used to being able to google and come up with the information on things and its been quite frustrating.
So if anyone can help or steer me in the right direction id really appreciate it.
Thanks
Kerri - South Australia

Hi Kerrie, Your Empire was made by ABS caravans in Melbourne in the mid to late 70s,they weren’t around for long ( as many van builders weren’t in those days) They didn’t change much over their build time, but back then a LOT of chipboard was used,so just check that your floor is plywood. They had a wooden frame and an inset roof,or what we used to call a “ head cruncher”! With the short door.If you can put up a pic I might be able to tell you more, Cheers hughdeany

Looks like a nice van. 👍
Which insurance company have you been speaking to as construction method and material never came up in the conversations I've had with insurers.

As Mustang said shop around when I insured mine last year none of the insurance companies I contacted for quotes asked what type of frame it had just the outside material that is aluminum .

i called RAA here in SA - first question on her "screen" was if the frame was wooden or aluminum - ill definitely be making some more calls thank you - we have been distracted with replacing the brake system last people "somehow" never noticed the hot brakes and half the drums and shoes were disintegrated YIKES!!
