"Aw Guys" I just love the Wit that is forth-coming on this forum, ;D ;D ;D Al........., to answer your question no I don't intend to hang Air Cons all around the THOMSON, and there isn't any power stations on the Nullarbor, I have tried to find a 1000km power lead in that "Free to Advertise" paper, but they are rather scarce at the moment. ;D ;D ;D Yes, I did buy three air cons at $100.00 bucks each, Not to hang all over the van though, I will flog two of them off in a couple of months time when we get the first day of Summer, I think the profit from their sale will pay for the one in the van and give me some (Beer) traveling money in the pocket as well. Now the Width of the van ..... Bobt Hummmm "Yep" still legal while sitting on the front lawn, I will have to remind the "Cheese & Spice" to slip the Air Con out and fold up the frame before we take off though, Can't understand why I get a funny look when I keep reminding her to pull her weight, after all..... I'm the one who is retired ;D Cheers All kiwijim ;D ;D

Struth Kiwi thats a great set up is the perspex riveted to the window frame or is it held in place just by the angled aluminum on the air con Cheers Gary

Howdy Garyr, The Perspex is not attached to anything, in the photo of the perspex you can see I have riveted a thin strip of angle aluminum along the top of it, this is to give it a bit of strength and prevent it from cracking. The way it is all stuck together is simple, 1/ open window and place air-con support frame in place 2/ put perspex into place set into window frame 3/ get Cheese & Spice to place the air-con onto the frame (from the out-side) and gently slide it in through the Perspex, until the aluminum angle which I riveted to the outer Air-con casing comes into contact with the Perspex the weight of the air-con (35kg) does the rest, holding every thing in place. 4/ finally, after the air-con is in position the window is rested on top of a strip of foam, glued to the top of the air-con case, Why get the Cheese & spice to do the lifting and pushing you ask......... "Hell" some-one has to hold up the window..... (retired) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers kiwijim

Howdy All, Time is running out and the departure day looms, Got stuck into servicing the under carriage today, stripped the hubs down for examination of bearings, Brakes etc I bet no-one has a stub axle as thick as mine.... Just check out the bearing sizes here...... this picture tells it all...... A rear view of the twin coil independent suspension with shockie.. Front view, each side has a trailing arm on the front..... Heres the inside of the B&B cast drum..... solid as........ And the outside, center of hub is 100mm dia, studs are 80mm apart..... All I need now is about 2kg of bearing grease and she's ready for the road. ;D ;D ;D kiwijim

hi kiwjim that would have to be the cleanest ever brake assembly I have ever seen. That stub axle should be able to cope with you loaded caravan really well. Rather amazed at the complexity of the suspension. Sure don't make em like that down under. bobt

Howdy Bobt, I think it's just as well there is a heavy axle under the Thomson, Caught the Cheese & Spice taking baskets full of "Might-Be-Handy" stuff out to the van today. Just waiting for her to go shopping or something.........then I'll be sorting that lot out. Went to a Bearing Supplier today, thought I would grab an extra set of Bearings,.... just in case, One set of bearings with a seal......$95.00 "Hang On" said the kiwi........what about Trade "That is Trade"... said the over-feed bloke behind the counter, How about a discount for a Pensioner ;D ;D ;D Hang on ......."Yep" how's $85.00 "NUP" said the kiwi,......... toooooo Flamin Dearrrrrrrr. I'll be heading back to the Caravan Yard on Monday, I know there are some on the shelf there.......should be a lot cheaper. ;D ;D

Hi Kcountrychic, "Yep", it's taken over two years to get the Thomson to where it is today and now it's almost time to hook it on and enjoy the fruits of our labor. And yes we do hope to catch up with all the members of this Forum while trotting around the country side, so keep the kettle on the boil..... one day.... somewhere, we should cross paths. This will probably upset a few blokes on this forum, but.......... Went to the Sunday Markets again this morning, had the usual hunt around for the hidden bargain, I did the whole circuit with-out spotting anything good, ( Unusual for the kiwi ) Well I headed for the gate when something told me to do another round, so off I trotted and within a couple of rows of junk I found just what the Cheese & Spice wanted......... Brand new (almost) this 240v washing machine only uses 8Lt of water and has a two way agitator action, it only requires 135 amp " OOPS "... Watts to operate, so the generator will run it no worries. I tried it when we got home and in one load I washed ....1 T shirt, 2 Pr of nickers, 2 Pr of socks and 1 blouse. The machine has an automatic timer which will run from 3min to 15min, I found that it did an excellent wash in 6min. The asking price was $50.00.........off went the kiwi.....$40.00 lighter in pocket. "The kiwi strikes again"

;D ;D ;D G'day Jim. If that little washing machine pulls 135A are you sure the generator will handle it? If it really does drag that much current I think you should take it back and get your money back. There'd have to be something wrong with it. Cheers, Ross. ps. Only joking. You blokes should know my oblique sense of humour by now. Is that 1.35A?

Howdy there rossjools, "GEZ" it's not often a kiwi makes a mistake, I've just wandered out to the Thomson and checked the little washing machine.......... "OOPS" I did say the wrong thing, that machine draws 135w.... not amps. Lucky for us there is a keen eyed Member on hand to sort out the "Boo Boos" ;D ;D ;D Thanks Mate. kiwijim

Howdy All, Well, as the Dear one said, "Ya just can't leave it alone" Yep'....... more changes to the Thomson, In the last couple of weeks I have riped out the kitchen area and fitted the new Camp Stove from K mart......... While at it, added a Pots draw under the Stove........ Then rebuilt a new cover shelf to hide the Water Pump........ After this was finished, I then fitted two Brand New I/S mattresses, acquired through a local Free to advertise Paper, $30 ea........ After a slight alteration to the width of the Draws the mattress fitted just right......... We're almost ready for the road again, hope to be "Outa-ere" in a couple of weeks or less, We're heading South this trip, down to the Wine Country around Margaret River and beyond, Some more Pic's are bound to pop up pretty soon. ;D ;D ;D Kiwijim

Howdy Guys, Yep your right Bobandjacqui, the Thomson has been sitting on the front lawn since our return from around the Block almost a year ago, She's not Happy, so, I have promised her that the wheels will turn again. This trip will take us down South to-wards Esperence, through the Tall Timber Country and hopefully we will catch some color of the fruit trees changing for the Winter. We hope to be on the road in a week or so, no rush, a heap of bush camping, and no time limit. At least this time we can leave the Air-Con at home and at least a ton of "Might be handy parts" I'll be taking the fishing rod again, (haven't given up yet) there could be some Salmon on the move down on the South Coast. Yes Bobt, I've given up playing with other people's toys, still got one Viscount Pop Top to get rid of this week, if no sale, it's up on blocks until we return. Pretty Pic's will be coming soon (we hope) kiwijim

Howdy Atog, Yes, you had better get that Olympic used to following that nice 4x4, It may think it's not liked any more, and you know what happens to things that don't get used........ ;D ;D ;D ;D I wonder how many more Vintage or Classic vans are just sitting around after a major make-over. Come on Guys and Gals, get out there, have some fun with your toys. ;D ;D ;D ;D Any Members on the road any-where at present ? ? ? ? If so........Send us your Pic's Please post them on the Classic Caravan Social Scene Tread kiwijim
