Good article and video, although personally I wouldn't stay in one full stop because they are right next to main roads and full of trucks!
I like to find a side road or somewhere just outside a small town if I'm just pulling up for the night - it's not hard to find somewhere like a screenings dump, etc and pull up there out of the way, quiet and on your own. 👍

We like to get out of site from the road, small campfire & a few drinks.

Absolutely! Generally we like to be on our own or with a couple of friends - I have no issues with meeting new people and enjoy that but some of the Grey Nomads just want to talk about fuel economy and prattle on for hours for no good reason. I’m happy to sit around, chat or sit in peace.
Certainly can’t get any of that in a truck stop IMO. 😉
The safety aspect some go on about always amuses me - I’ve never felt unsafe anywhere I’ve camped. If I end up with a loud bunch of yobbos or something near us, I’ll wander over with a beer, say g’day, have a chat for 5 minutes, then leave them to it - it may not be an enjoyable night, but they certainly won’t do you any harm either. Even people that some see as ‘dangerous’ or ‘antisocial’ are generally just out to have a good time -albeit a different form of fun than we enjoy, but Australia is a VERY safe place to travel.
Maybe they’ve watched Wolf Creek once too often. 😆
