G'day All, I'm posting some photos of a Franklin Arrow van I saw recently. Hopefully it will add to the information we've collected so far about Franklin vans. This van is an on-site van, but appeared to be in quite reasonable condition (although it needed a good wash!). The van length would have been about 16ft, but I didn't actually measure that. Note the blue background colour in the Franklin badges, as opposed to the commonly seen red colour. This blue colour matched the blue stripes on the van, so perhaps this van was some sort of "special" van? The RVMAA badge had the serial number 007707... cheers, Al.

Hi Al, Thank you for posting. The blue insert colour indeed looks too good for an amatuer repaint?

If the badges were repainted afterwards, someones done a very good job - it certainly does look factory from the pics. Given that it is under cover, it would make an excellent restoration project.

I'll check ours later, but from memory (and mines not that great ), the badge is a mix of red and blue. Maybe blue text with a red logo. I note that ours is the same year, or at least the same "X" prefix, and we lack the RVMAA badge. All else looks identical. cheers

G'day planner, The RVMAA initiative was officially announced in February 1977, but we've seen examples of the badges on vans from the second half of 1976. It seems the badges were being fitted well before the "dignitaries" could organise their calendars to actually launch the initiative. Your van with the chassis number X739 is from early 1976, so you unfortunately missed out on the extra bit of 'bling'. cheers, Al.

Checked last night, our badge is definitely a mix of blue and red. Blue text with a red logo. (my memory hasn't yet gone completely). The paintwork looks original, but in average condition. I was thinking of getting some plastic model paint and a small brush and doing some touch-up.

Armed with a razor hobby knife & tape I bothered to mask them & then sprayed with Rustoleum red. Tedious, but I was on holiday. They were very happy with the result.

I was browsing through Gumtree last night, and a local caravan dealer has a "1979" Franklin Arrow for sale. One photo appears to show the Franklin badge has a blue background, so maybe this colour isn't as uncommon as I thought... I'm not sure if the stripe colour on the side of the van has been repainted at some time, or if it is original... cheers, Al.

That stripe colour is what was painted over the original orange stripe on mine, then on top of that blue so 3 colours over its life - maybe that was a popular colour back in the early 80's omething...

That maroon/ deep rubine colour was popular during the mid 80s. Do not know about on caravans just car & fashion. T think, looking at how blue the white cladding is and how navy blue the reflection from that awning is, the badge is a very faded red almost showing metal & the image saturation from a poor quality digital camera result, is trying to trick us!
