Gday All
I am interested in a 15ft Millard Tin Top(not pop top) that has been completely striped out inside of wall and roof covering and fittings. Would that make it unstable for towing or are the aluminium framed wall and roof strong enough. cheers Baz

Hi Bazdat, Welcome to the forum. Simply not worth the anguish to tow an unroadworthy van down a public highway!!! The physical strength of these old vans is the furniture inside that ties it together. You don't know the van/brakes/tyres/bearings/suspension/tow hitch/lighting? Hire a trailer & wrap the van in pallet wrap. Keep us in the loop. Cheers Brent

You should be able to get an unregistered towing permit for the trip home? The body will probably hold up ok as Millard aluminium frames are fairly robust. At 15ft and internally gutted it's probably well under the legal weight requirement for brakes. A light board could solve any 12v wiring issues. Windows & hatch & door will need to be closed/secured and maybe duct taped. Tyres & wheel bearings & suspension maybe the biggest issue? Even when carried on a trailer or tilt tray there is a risk of things going pear shaped. Good luck.

Gidday bazdat
Welcome aboard, how far do you need to move it? We have lots of 'horror' stories of people losing the hatch off the roof because it was not secured, windows falling out and the like. Depending on how far it needs to go. But it would be a good idea to check that all the bits a pieces are secure or wrap em up so they don't come off.
Good luck with it

I'd put a couple of braces in it to be honest - a diagonal brace from each side at the ceiling done to the floor on the other side of the van and also a couple from the front of the van up high down to the floor to cope with wind loads from towing. As mentioned the structural integrity of the van comes from the cupboards, seating and other internal furniture. All the best with it.
