As a family we mildly use Facebook as I guess it was intended, to keep up with family & friends.
Recently while following the new Sunliner page I have been astounded at how many caravan pages there are.
Some of these are hate groups "post your problem here" but the increase in the Sunliner group is nothing short of staggering. I,m told the Olympic page also has 150 members?
I can see that the forums are suffering in news (especially this one) due to Photobucket. Will new members soon tire of seeing those photobucket warnings while looking for some history on their van & go to facebook, I guess so.
Over the past two years I have received so many comments of how much info & encouragement new members have gained from reading previous rebuilds, will this detail happen on facebook, I don,t think so, the roll over of members will be high & the info lightly shared. (apart from some of the specialized brands)
I encourage members here to think about re posting images of their re build & perhaps later we can collate these in a section like the old museum? I for one would never have rebuilt our Viscount by looking at the Viscount group on facebook, but here it turned into a labour of love, due to established members giving out their encouragement & advice.
Long live the CC & VV forums.

I have also gained a lot of help from the CC and VV forums both for renovating as well as researching the Viscount and Millard/York chassis numbers. I found the photo thing in here frustrating and chose to blog my renos on a different forum that didn't require photobucket, flikr or any third party sites (not to mention my first reno wouldn't have qualified as it was an 80s Viscount) But I do agree, facebook just can't do a rebuild thread like a forum can and keep it tidy and easy to follow. As an admin in both the Viscount and Millard&York facebook groups, I often refer our members to the CC and VV forums for further information on something they are doing or on the history of their caravans. I really hope the photos in here are restored, it would be a shame to lose all that valuable information. I also appreciate the hard work that is currently being done to restore images especially in the VV forum in Down History Lane. Cheers Shelley

I personally don't use Facebook, but I can see it's advantages for keeping in touch with family and friends. Having never used F/b, I can't comment on whether it would be a suitable alternative to a Proboards forum such as this one. As I understand it, the SEQ Vintage Caravans group closed down their Proboards forum sometime last year, and now operate via a Facebook page. I don't know how successful that has been for them, but somebody familiar with their F/b page might come on here and comment.
I'm happy to reinstate the photos in the threads I've created over the 8 years I've been a member of this forum, but the task of reinstating over 1000 photos is somewhat daunting. I'm also rather wary of other photo hosting websites following the lead of Photobucket, and deciding to charge an exhorbitant rate for hosting my photos, so that I end up in the same position I'm in at the moment.
I'm curious to know how Shelley "chose to blog my renos on a different forum that didn't require photobucket, flikr or any third party sites". How is this done, and is there something similar that this forum could use??
There's no doubt that the missing images in the many threads on this forum severely reduce the "interest and information" value of the threads. I'd hate to see the forum whither and die due this latest change with photos, and I'm hoping a satisfactory long-term solution becomes available.
cheers, Al.

My retro caravan group has jumped since the photobucket thing, about 60 newbies last month so now up to Members 249Admins 2Blocked 0 As Brent pointed out the forums are a fast clean way to view things. (when not being $trangled by image hosts) What i did learn from TwoCuteKelpies here, via the fixit group, is facebook bookmarks, that changes the pain that can be those usefull posts long burried under the waving at others and not being waved back clutter. What FB groups needs is easy link navigation like the yahoo of old where 1 click gives referral sites, like the Viscount & Millard groups for example. We even have a Royal "Ginger"! www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10213374019966726&set=pcb.1985154605087141&type=3&theaterIt will be fun merging timeline posts into dedicated albums = so easy look see where folks are posting the before during and after pics. Once things calm down i am sure many will be "interested"in creating hall of fame threads here, that do show up on google search and can be easily viewed in isolation. Even the kitchen sink! www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10213374531261485&set=p.10213374531261485&type=3&theater

I used the reno shed in the caravanersforum, while photos are easier to upload as long as their file size is reduced, the downside is that after 20 minutes the posts are locked and can't be edited. I have downloaded my thread into a word doc that I keep on my pc in case photos are lost or the forum shuts down etc. This is the link to my 1987 Viscount rebuild caravanersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=56003 and I completely understand if admin choose to delete this information due to being an opposing forum.

An excellent example of why thumbs are such a good way to post, instant full page loaded and enough indication from the pic as to if i need to expand it full size, not suffer that bandwidth every visit, post new comment.

atefooterz, your fb links aren't working. Might be something to do with the privacy settings on that fb page?

atefooterz, your fb links aren't working. Might be something to do with the privacy settings on that fb page? Works for me but I'm a member of Ate's group Classic Caravans of Oz, it's a closed group so the links will only work for members

atefooterz, your fb links aren't working. Might be something to do with the privacy settings on that fb page? Yes the groups only work if you are a member. However something to remember to be able to share a particular thing, is to click on a post. if the share button is visible then it can be shared (public setting) however on the groups timeline that same post can not be shared or tagged! We see many trendy types tagging mates, that name is grey and no notification goes to the intended, if they clicked to the item then tagged a mate then they get notified and when clicked see that item direct, outside of any group it was posted to. So this thing shared on the group timeline will be invisible clicking on the group homegage/ discussion however this www.facebook.com/babyology/photos/a.93449396215.101272.43100771215/10154550110021216/?type=3&theater should work for anyone. ( as an example)
