G'day All: Today, my wife and I went to Ballarat, and place a deposit on a Franklin Hunter Caravan. I've spent a few hours researching the model, without much success. I am guessing by the sticker on the outside front and back it is year 1970 - 1972. (I Read that somewhere here, I think) A picture of the van can be found here: dearwatsons.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/img_20170506_134452.jpgIf anybody could enlighten me about this van, I would be most interested and grateful. I'd love to be sure of the year of manufacturing and how many were made. Thanks and regards, Jack

Hi Jack, Your van is about 1971 or 72,does the wardrobe reach the roof and the overhead cupboards stand proud of the side wall over the kitchen? If so it's one of the first "economy" models Franklin made, with 2 single beds or a fixed double in the rear. There were thousands of these sold, and demand was high for a 6 berth,so hey built an 18.6 version on a single axle, but that one wasn't sold in any great numbers. A few years later came 10,12,15,and 15x 8 models. They are very light and tow extremely well if left standard,as the A frame goes back to the spring hangers and a drop axle with good ballweight means stable towing. They have sandwich walls and minimal framework with foam centre. Great little vans Hope this helps Cheers hughdeani

G'day Hughdeani: Thanks very much for your informative reply. I pick up the van on Friday, however my photos show the cupboards protruding over the sink and gas cooker. I don't think the wardrobe goes all the way to the roof. (A couple of inches shy, I think) The van has two narrowish single beds in the rear, with a cupboard between. I intend pulling it with a Ford ranger sitting on about 80/85 kph. Hopefully it will be nice and stable. Inside is in original condition apart from the kitchen cushions being recovered with cloth. Overall, it had very little use. Still a lot of paraphernalia from the 70's in the cupboards. Cheers, Jack
