Well the weekend has nearly finished and all the cladding is off. This was hanging loose in the wall. LIVE! The ants were amazing. They were everywhere. And notice the polystyrene where the wire is? The heat melted it. It happened everywhere where there was the poly insulation The ants All naked

that top photo shows a tone of luck. lucky that there was a van to buy going by the arcing on the ply lucky it didn't make whole van live by touching frame and thankfully the last lucky I can think of is you took cladding off and found it. Just doing a clean up ,fix what is damaged and a make over may never have found it before something terrible happened. while it is apart like that might be a good idea to have an electrician look at it I know from experience it is costly nearly $500 to hook up 3 power points two lights an inlet two outlets and three safety fuses that was with me supplying all parts and running wires but all legal and as safe as possible.

Well as soon as I am ready for it I am getting an electrician. It was part of the plan but that live wire was a doozy.

Wow - and think how many vans out there may be in a similar situation but the owners are not 'hands on' and therefore never know. Couldnt do that myself, old items need to be looked at thoroughly...

Well the photo fiasco is a pain. I signed up to one of the prefered sites and it is a pain, so I made my own. It's also a pain as it won't display the photo, only the link. So go to the link to see my progress: bluddymuddy.net/index.php/20170901_123643I have recladded with an Aluminium 3mm Composite and it's great. Weight is an issue but I have calculated that extra weight into the van. Done all the 12 volt wiring and the 240 volt as well. Toilet installed and all the other stuff. The one thing that is holding me up a little is my neighbour who is making my new draw bar. It will be 300mm longer and made from 5 x 2 inch steel. Same as the chassis. Anyway, the reno is going fine and can't wait for the completion.

OMG that is not a resto but a reincarnation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen any thing like this before!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Job. Glad you like it. We do too. All they take is alot of time and of course money. Lots of money. It will look great especially as it has a 'High Rise' roof. Once all the stuff is installed it should weigh around 2350kg. Thats with the new draw bar, new cladding, stainless steel water tanks, gas fitted with bottles etc (it never had gas), fridge 12 volt compressor, 2 x 130AH batteries with all the DC2DC etc, diesel heater and of course the extra 2 brakes so that all 4 wheels have breaks. I think the ATM will be around 2600 - 2800KG. This one is a keeper. Won't want to do this again too soon. Anyway, I will keep pics up to date more frequently now I can put them on my site. Steve

Well she is finished, well almost. Still needs some tweaks but at least she is registered. We are away for our maiden trip. One night only. But here are the photos: bluddymuddy.net/index.php/Latest-picsThe only problem I have found is the airconditioner doesn't get cold enough. Arggggg will have to contact them and find out why. Had it set at 16deg all ight and wasn't all that cold. Installed an Ibis3 should have been able to cool the van. Will be interesting to see what they say.

Looks amazing! Pity about the AC - To be honest I’ve never seen a caravan roof mounted AC do a decent job when gets really hot, but hope you get it sorted.

I hope you are wrong. They said it might be a lack of gas issue. Nothing can be done this year. Posted by tasmillard19 hours ago

In my opinion the vans of today are not as good as the old ones. All the same, far too expensive and boring. But thats my opinion. Posted by Mustang11 hours ago

We are wanting a couple of small "Swirls". Possibly orange/red. But it does need something Posted by 78466noM8 hours ago

It was a very consuming project. I can't just sit around with the van not finished. Read more: ditzygypsy.proboards.com/post/new/4314#ixzz51eEqZOBM

Can anyone else see my photos on Photobucket? Looks like they may have eased their tight policies. And BTW re the aircon...I never installed it correctly. lol There is a round cowling that should have been pulled down which allowed the air to be pulled from within the van. It works like a charm now.

Photobucket is much easier to use. Re my weights....Well after fitting a new longer and stronger drawbar and replacing the back axle with a new braked axle my weights ended up at: Tare 2180kg and ATM 2780kg. So I have lots of room to move for storage. I went over a public weigh bridge fully loaded and it came in at 2420kg with a ball weight of 240kg. I was happy with those weights. I also found out that the van travels much better with both tanks full especially the rear tank which is behind the rear axle. The front axle is in between the axles. I was lucky with the rego, as where I live there isn't a public weigh bridge so we have to tell the rego people what the weights are as a guesstamate. This only occurs when the van hasn't either been registered before, as mine was, or it came from another state and no rego papers.
